I think one thing that should be totally emphasised with John Farnham's vocal skills, is his incredible improvisational ability. He can break it down break it up, grab a cue, create a new cue, revamp the rhythm, pick an inbetween harmony, take it high take it low, inside or outside of the original vocal line, just sensational.. And as far as passion and committment goes I really think he and Joe Cocker stand toe to toe! Good Luck and Best Wishes John!!

John said he sings every song like it’s the last chance he will get to perform it! He always introduces his band members one by one as the people on stage who make him look good. He has said many times you won’t see any better musicians in the world because they are the best. He loves his band and they have been together for decades.

The guy he introduces on guitar - Jack Jones (aka Irwin Thomas) is not only a fantastic guitarist, but an amazing vocalist in his own right. Along with Phil Buckle (also on guitar in this clip) they formed the band ‘Southern Sons’, who were completely awesome. Jack went on to a solo career under his birth name - Irwin Thomas, and still sounds amazing. Wayne Nelson on bass there followed John to his solo career from the Little River Band - another fantastic group well worth checking out.

Southern Sons were amazing!! I remember seeing them do a gig at Melbourne University and the power went out mid song. It was like someone had pressed pause. As soon as the power was fixed ( a good 15 mins later ) they picked up exactly where they left off like the pause button was released. Amazing talent we had here ❤

John always chooses VERY talented guitarists. Brett Garsed was with him for the first two albums, Jack & Phil joined for the third album & tour, and Stuart Fraser (noiseworks) took over from the fourth album. Brett did rejoin later, and Jack joined John entertaining Australian soldiers in East Timor, 1999.

Ok, Irwin is a lovely human being. Rebecca Gibney (Aussie TV personality) broke his spirit. She broke him for a long time. I still haven't forgiven her for that & can no longer watch anything she is in since. I was sat at the same table with him at a friend's wedding shortly after the divorce. So gentle, smart not to mention sexy as hell. Hair short or long he is hot! But more importantly than that he is one of the most warm & genuine people I have ever met. He deserves nothing but the best. He only wants to spread love through his music.

Just looking at John and hearing him makes my heart happy. He doesn’t just give it his all for a song, he does it for every song. In one concert I did see him stop for 10 minutes to put dry clothes on. He makes me tired just watching him. There has never been anyone he has worked with that he put himself above. Thank you.

John sings the same way for the entire concert every single time... the only time he gets a 'break' is during a ballad ... and even then he can't help but let rip... he's like a frustrated musician (John plays one song on the piano and strums a little on guitar...) he doesn't really have an off switch. Help was usually the second encore of the night after almost 3hrs of non stop vocals... I am very lucky (like a lot of Aussies) to have seen John live every year he toured, at least once... Thank you for the reactions and the respect to our artists... love your channel !

One of the concert tours John did with Jack Jones there was the discussion on stage of Jack sounding a little like John when he sang for Southern Sons. They both maintained they couldn’t hear the similarities but I sure could. I’d give a lot to hear a line up of John Farnham, Southern Sons, Rick Price, Diesel, Jimmy Barnes, Black Sorrows, Kate Cebrano, Delta Goodrem, Missy Higgins, Vanessa Amorosi.

This clip actually features so many of his long-time musicians. Jack Jones (the guitar player in the red shirt) of Southern Sons has a few hits to his name and sounds somewhat similar to John. Lindsay Field (the guitar player in the check vest John sings next to) you might recognise as one of his back-up singers and of course, Lisa Edwards and Vanetta Field (sorry don't know the name of the black gentleman but features in John's "In Days to Come" song). You also notice the age range in John's audiences from youngies to oldies. Everyone knows a John Farnham gig is 100% excellent music and singing with a few daggy jokes and verbal by-play. He gives it his all whether that's singing or engaging the audience. You see why John is the entertainer Australia loves. No grand-standing nonsense, just our loveable John singing to us.

If you like powerful singers like John Farnham you should listen to Glenn Hughes. He has multiple solo albums which are excellent. You will hear him also on Black Country Communion albums with Joe Bonamassa and on the two latest albums of the Dead Daisies with Doug Aldrich. If you want to go back further his voice can be heard prominently on the Deep Purple albums 'Burn' and 'Come Taste the Band'. He also recorded two really heavy albums with Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath 'Fused' and 'Seventh Star'. Check him out.

Yet again another import. English this time. John came to Australia in '59. Always had a good voice but he was in the weeds for a lot of years until he started these 'spiritual' songs in the 90's. Don't ask him to sing 'Sadie', his very cringe first 'hit' in ''67.
