Looked like a hunk of magnetite. if so it would give a signal but only in a large piece so it make sense that the signal would go away when its broke. 2 tests to be sure: will it stick to a magnet (magnetite is very magnetic) and scratch it on a piece of unglazed porcelain magnetite will leave a black streak.

The "Hot Rock" is the carbon rod out of a Edison Battery. They needed to be changed from time to time, so there were a lot more rods than batteries.

There's gold in them thar hills!!! Beautiful scenery, reminds me of home. Congrats on the ring Rusty, great find and not a bad ring to pull tab ratio.

Hillbilly fromWV Thank! The river is really pretty clean so not too much junk. There was a river back in MO and people partied hard there, it was thick with pulltabs lol.

That oblong rock looking piece looks to me like part of a cell from an old battery. Just rounded and smoothed from rolling around in the river. Nice video. GL & HH

Very nice recovery of the Gold Ring. I'm headed for Gaitlinburg at the end of August for a little vacationing and water hunts (now that I've seen this). Nice video Rusty.

That strange rock was an alien turd. you never know what they have been eating. Great find on that circle of love.

That "rock" looks like an old battery carbon rod (center of dry cell) that has worn smooth in the river bed...it might have had enough carbon minerals to set off the detector...but once you broke it it became too wide to sense- or rather less dense.

My buddy took me to Sliding Rock in the Pisgah National forest (I think). There was a pool that you slid lid into and fish were looking at you. Nice country out there.

Find out the take out spots and go up stream. When people start paddling to the bank or trying to aviod a island or tree branch or rock that's where I have had my luck. Fantastic video and nice 14k. Take care Cutaplug

Your alien rock is deffinatly a rod from an old battery its just water worn a bit.

+Ozarkshunter more likely a cow magnet. they feed them to cows to pick up the iron in their stomachs. when a ceramic magnet is smashed it looses all magnetic properties
