As you can see Frequency ranges, reactivity and program choices can all make a big difference on specific targets at depth.

Good evening Gary, interesting video because the use of the pointer on the device can give an idea of the depth but I knew, it's true that a good sound can be a deep waste but by playing with the reactivity, the idea of the nature of the target can be quickly made, thank you for this video Alex and Toch

Nice to see the comparison with the three top end XP machines Gaz. Also interesting to see the way frequency and reactivity reacts with one another in different programs. Agreed it sounded shallow. The D2 Park with square tone sang out, but for me the Deep HC is a favourite of mine depending on site conditions. The D1 was also a go to program and still is as I couldn't part with it. Great to see the ORX holding its own on this test with it's big brothers the D1 and D2. The coin fast and deep programs knocking out the target. A really interesting test and comparison mate. Thanks for sharing 👍

That was a very good vid Gary. My tip was a medium shallow small high conductor but it was a deep bigger one. Anyway the pinpoint mode on detectors with good pinpoint ( true all metal ) never fails when it comes to non ferrous vs ferrous. A ferrous always give a wide signal and a nonferrous narrow. A screaming disc signal and a narrow whisper pinpoint asks for a wide dig to not hit that possible good find.

I generally dig regardless of depth. Here in the states old coins and relics are generally 6 plus inches. But, I have found some of my best targets just a couple inches down. And sometimes some of the deep squeakers that you just hope to be nice old silver coin turn out to be a deep modern penny from 1981! It just depends on your site.

So true. I’m in Canada and I do really believe that “frost lensing” can mess with your perception of how old a target will be based on depth. If ice can push fieldstones up from the ground, it can also surely raise older metal objects closer to the surface.
@The-skillschool Жыл бұрын
I guess so

@David Donald absolutely! It's the reason I always go back and check areas I have been over. I think more and more get pushed to the surface. Especially in the clay areas which are all around the lake superior area.

Often I have found nothing special, but I return home with great confidence and joy about my detector! I dug up all kinds of non-ferrous objects at a good depth and dug up very small non-ferrous objects! Then I know: if there had been beautiful things there, I wouldn't have missed anything! 👌

Put a large coil cors cannon on my aka Sorax pro and I hit deep 1700 silvers this week with ease. Had this detector for 8 years now and it never stops to amaze me. At 14khz hit a 1764 George 3rd Florin at 19 inches on pasture. Even my friends Gpx could not see it with his large sef coil on.. :) pays to learn your detector well clean a site the best you can. Then wack a 14 to 17 inch coil on and your start getting the deep half crowns etc florins at crazy depths. Give it a go with your machines esp on pasture like I'm currently hitting 😊 good luck and happy hunting.

Hi Gary. Thanks for another great video. I have the deus 2 but have found very little with it. I have dug a lot of scrap, but only one coin in the 6 or 7 times I’ve been out with it. Are there any good instruction books for the Deus 2 that explain reactivity, discrimination etc in more detail? I know a lot of it is pure time served with the detector in the field, but I’d like to increase my chances of increased finds by understanding what all the settings actually do to the searching. Hope that makes sense?

Digging questionable targets depends on how late in the day it is for me. If I've just dug multiple junk targets in short order that rang up in a similar fashion, I'd be inclined to skip it. If I haven't had a decent signal in a while, I'd probably dig. The site determines a lot too. "Dig every signal" like so many people constantly decree, isn't very practical in a modern trashy US park where you're getting multiple targets in a single coil sweep. You're forced to pick and choose some then if you want to cover any ground at all. Just like detector settings, my "dig or no dig" mental settings vary depending on the site conditions, type of terrain, site history, etc. This is how most detectorists I know operate in reality, even the ones who scream "I dig everything!"

Without having seen the full video yet, i would say the target is deeper than 10cm, judging from the Deus2 full tone, which is the only program i use myself :-) I like the sounds and information you get from it, and i find it hard to asses to depth of a target when not in full tone. We need a smaller coil! For anyone thinking about up grading to a Deus 2 or Manticore. I was out with the D2 yesterday hunting with a friend who swings the Nox 800. Things were pretty even at a very iron infested site... until... he asks me if I think it would be a good idea if he switched to his 4" coil... (same coil will work the Manticore). Well. he really saw some nice results...... I retired a year ago and swing at least 4 days a week weather permitting. From where I am standing no contest... until and if Deus comes out with a similar coil. Love the D2 but I will pissed if we don't see a sniper coil soon! Very well matched machines... unless your in heavy iron with 4" coil vs a 9" coil.... EOM

I dig a lot of rubbish but get some good stuff when expecting rubbish. I detect with a mate and he digs very little but he generally knows what the target is before he digs, saying that though, hes never had a hammered. I dont seem to get many deep targets but i do try to clear as many iffy signals from my firlds as i can as i dont jave a lot of permissions and tend to go over fields lots of times. On one if my sites the owner is sure there might st be Roman activity and thete is evidence of Roman settlement just the orher side of a small stream but ive never found any Roman because of the amount of foil in the ground. On that permission the guy said i could keep anything i find but just dhow it to him for interest. He also said hed be happy with a nice horse brass. I found a beautiful old one there one day and he was over the moon ehen i gave ut too him, he would be pleased with the one you dug as well, no doubt it would be nailed to a beam in his kitchen next time I was there for a cup of tea. Thanks for all your videos, they help me a great deal. The biggest thing ive learned is that if you have the time just dig as much as you can and as this video shows you will be surprised at some of the results... You will also need a big scrap bucket snd wn even bigger bag for rubbish. Goood luck! Weather also changes signals.
