I like to imagine that when Big Boss switches frequencies in MG1, it's actually switching from the real Big Boss to Venom. As in now Venom is acting as Big Boss over the radio and trying to misdirect Snake as he gets closer in completing his mission

I originally got myself an MSX emulator to play it, before I got a copy of MGS3S to play it on my PS2. It's a *trip* for sure, but you'll most likely have a good time. Half of your experience is going to be "oh, *that's* where Metal Gear Solid got that" and the other half is going to be "I need Kojima's drugs."

It will be. Only downside is it was poorly optimized so 90% of the data will need to be downloaded. They used a small cart and the files are truly massive, like close to 100 gigs because they didn't properly optimize the ports.

Not a swastika, it's a manji symbol. It's facing the other way. It's also used in Blade of the Immortal, as the symbol for.... the guy named Manji. Literally the only reason I even know.

I'm late to this video, but I was playing the original MSX2 version of Metal Gear and it has some weird differences from the mobile/MGS3 Subsistence version. Bosses don't flash red to show they're taking damage, there's no question mark above Snake when he punches a fake wall so you can only rely on the sound, rations don't heal you if you take lethal damage with them equipped, the security camera lasers shoot you even if you're in the cardboard box and standing still, and other weird things that make the first version a lot less fun to play.

Haha good catches. I was looking through the comments to see if anybody mentioned these differences! Also on MSX there are more backup guards in alert phases, which causes slowdown. There is aTurbo-machine patch rom hack for the MSX version that gets rid of the slowdown, but that rom hack breaks the binoculars. The enemies on the next screens don't show up in the binoculars when that patch is applied.

Metal Gear (NES): Solidified Snack stumbles into Outta Compton to stop Skynet because Macintosh Computers are the Devil .(Sounds reasonable) Snakes Revenge (NES) : Lt. Beef Steak stops Evil purple Robocop and must destroy his hot ride that is called in pure coincidence Metal Gear 2 because the carbon output of this thing is nuclear devastating . Metal Gear 2 (MSX): Solid Snake needs a Vacation and infiltrates zanzibar Lands Center Parks to destroy the named attentionly Metal Gear 2 while defeating the B1G B0SS of this island and their terrorist force with hot musical jams because terrorism shouldnt have Vacations . (Sounds Reasonable) Now im ready to experience the MGS-series !

What I've always thought is that Metal Gear 2 is arguably the best game of the series alongside Metal Gear Solid 1 and Metal Gear Solid 3. Still can't stand all that garbage they throw into the "before"-time period after Solid 3 with Solid V (and to a lesser extent Peace Walker) that mainly just serves to make the original games seem less meaningful and kind of just odd at parts storywise.

snakes revenge is the first metal gear game i ever played. i still love the game and play it on my nes mini. what i really love about it is the music. when i finished it for the first time and went and got metal gear 1. i was so disapointed yeah i got the nes port and i hated it so much. still do.

As a kid I decided to ask for the NES Metal Gear on a whim, and I ended up really liking it. But I still never did beat the game the proper intended way. I always had trouble getting 4 class stars and getting Jennifer to give me the rocket launcher. I never had enough C4 to destroy the computer, but there was this trick where you could walk into the doorframe right as you enter the super computer room and it would put you right into the Big Boss fight without ever triggering the countdown. So I always beat the game that way instead since it was so much easier. The plot of the NES game was completely crazy, with all kinds of made up names for characters in the instruction manual. I never played Snake's Revenge but I remember being extremely confused when I first played Metal Gear Solid on PS1 with the NES game as my only reference.
