Dark souls has "optional storytelling", but it's told through short item descriptions, visual information and player's ability to connect the dots. It goes with the flow of the game and keeps you interested, while mgr expects you to pause the game, select an audiolog from the menu and sit idly for a couple of minutes at the start of every level. All that to put together a coherent story for otherwise a short, fast-paced game.

I believe the "input lag" Lyle is talking about is a result of the PC ports busted frame limiter. For some reason when you fullscreen the game at your native resolution it locks the framerate at 50fps and the limiter becomes less stable over time resulting in higher input lag and slight judder the longer the game is open. The game runs at 60fps in windowed mode (there is no borderless windowed) but with a constant micro stutter. A solution that worked for me is setting a custom resolution of 1910 x1070 and limiting the framerate to 59.911 in Rivatuner, that way, it ran more or less perfectly and in fullscreen. Console ports are cancer.

At the time it was introduced, Super Saiyan 2 was just referred to as an "Ascended Super Saiyan". It wasn't until he was literally showing off for Buu and Babidi that he actually gave each form a number, the entire scene (and entire arc, even) basically being self parody at that point.

@@WihlyBT the Buu saga had a lot of comedy in it, but he wasn't just fucking with the audience when making it, most of the Buu arcs problems come from him just not knowing what to do with the story, he had a lot of good ideas for the Buu arc but nothing except Vegeta and Mr Satan's plots really go anywhere. Toriyama is at his best when he has to find ways to diminish the work load or when there's someone else to bother him with editorial demands, often a lack of restriction on what you can do makes your work more diluted and less coherent, and this is obviously the case here, compared to others the Buu saga is filled with a lot more power ups and shit like that, usually DragonBall stories are pretty straightforward with one power up and central enemy at the focus, the Saiyan saga had the Genkidama/Kaiohken and Vegeta, Namek had Super Saiyan and Freeza, and the androind saga had Super Saiyan 2 and Cell, but in the Buu arc you have Super Saiyan 3, fusions, the Kai sword or whatever, Gohan's power up, and even Majin Buu has a shit ton of forms all radically different from each other, and at the end practically all of it becomes a red herring and Buu is defeated by the Genkidama which was introduced way back in the sayian arc, in short its a mess, but it does have its moments.

They have every opportunity to kill Buu one after the other, but they never take it because it's been 7 years since any of them have had anything to do. Goku's been dead. Gohan's missed his father. Vegeta's having a mid life crisis. Goten and Trunks are literal children. The first 3 only know how to operate in crisis, while the latter 2 have never experienced crisis at all. It isn't their brute strength that wins the day, it's Satan's humanity and ability to reach people, which the monstrous Saiyans lack, that wins the day. It's made very clear from the beginning that Buu only listens to Babidi because nobody's given him anything else better to do, and when Buu figures that out himself, he kills Babidi. All they had to do to make Buu stop was ask nicely, and it wasn't until Mr. Satan's blind luck and cowardice due to being only human that anybody had the idea to do so. The whole point of the arc is "look what bastards the heroes are", and it's the very reason it's so long and has so many twists and turns.

@@WihlyBT that really is likely not the point of the Buu arc at all, at least it was clearly not what Toriyama intended, not that he really knew what he was going for anyway. Even if this "saiyans are bad and mr Satan is the true hero" interpretation is correct, most of the story is still not really relevant to that intent at all, mr Satan is only really relevant for a brief amount of time in the grand scheme of things, and the Saiyans are still portrayed as positive characters, Vegeta especially with his redemption arc, all the "twist and turns" are just a result of Toriyama realizing that he can't just finish it with the many ending chances he had before the final fight because unlike super Saiyan 1 in the freeza arc or the Genkidama in the Saiyan arc, there isn't as much build up behind any of the new shit he introduced, so no matter what he did, ending the story with any of the new power ups would've resulted in a much less satisfying finale, not that the Genkidama finale was super special, but that at least had Vegeta and Mr Satan to help it feel like a more earned finale cause it finally seals the completion of Vegeta's arc by finally accepting to help Goku, and the fact that Satan was so involved with the story of chubby Buu, and because his reputation on hearth makes the contribution of the earthlings make sense.
