However the way the song is played in this fight, with vocals stopping and just instrumental version playing when Raiden loses the sword, like Sams theme would stop with lyrics when he lets go off the sword until he picks it up again, means it's Raidens boss theme. Raiden is the final boss of that game. This is further consolidated in Jetstream Sam DLC, where during Armstrongs fight "collective consciousness"(song from 1st phase of armstrong fight in his metal gear) is being played, not "it has to be this way".

Oh it's all correct but the silly conclusion of Raiden being a boss... c'mon man, get a grip you're not playing as Armstrong but as Jack. 2nd Phase song is Jack's theme indeed also a reflection on the past. I love that those songs are actually written from the character's point of view.
