When I was about 10 yrs old, I was in the truck with dad, and we were listening 94.9 zeta (south Florida radio station which is no longer around 😕) and Iron Man came on. My dad,.knew very well that I had never heard this song, but he messed with me like a dude might mess with his friend "oh man you've never heard this?!" [That's when he cranked it] Either that night or the next, me, my dad and my mom, all went to this discount department store called Mcdoogles (out of business now, and was going out of business then) and my dad saw this tape cassette tower and spun it around and sure enough PARANOID and MASTER OF REALITY were there,.he grabbed both of them without even thinking twice. We listened to both of those cassettes for weeks in the garage. I think I'm from the last generation to buy and listen to cassettes, in the garage, watching my dad trying to play along to SWEET LEAF, and figuring it out in a few hours on my 135$ ibanez RX. being a kid was great!

Black Sabbath definitely deserve to be acknowledged as the Godfathers of Heavy Metal music. In my opinion their whole catalog is amazing in their own way with every different lead singer. The band that scared the hippies away by bringing darkness to rock music and giving birth to the term Heavy Metal. Hail Black Sabbath.
@aqjr.62054 жыл бұрын
What "scared" the hippies away was the anti-hippie, anti-black CIA/FBI plots known as the Manson murders and COINTELPRO. Metal music reverberated the death and destruction of The Vietnam War as far as I'm concerned. Hendrix and The Rolling Stones lit that fuse of fury into the evolving world of Rock and ultimately paved the way for the sounds of authentic satanic music from Covenant and their song titled.. Black Sabbath. These are the translated sounds of The 'televised' Vietnam War through music.

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is my all time favorite Black Sabbath album hands down...I love all the Ozzy era Sabbath albums, even Technical Ecstacy & Never Say Die, which admittedly aren't their strongest albums, but Sabbath Bloody Sabbath rules them all in my opinion...I bought it because I was in church, of all places, (I was about 14 at the time) and there was an evangelist guest preacher who was absolutely anti rock n roll & he was preaching against every band I loved...which didn't bother me because I knew he didn't know what he was talking about...anyways, he was showing a slideshow of different rock bands & album covers & when he showed the cover of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath & proclaimed it to be the most satanic album cover of all time, I immediately said to myself, that's gotta be an awesome record...I gotta get that one! And it has remained my favorite album ever since! I thank that preacher all the time for letting me know about that wonderful album...Who says you can't have fun going to church? Master of Reality has been one of my all-time favorite albums! I heard when it first came out - yeah, I'm an old dude - in '71 I think. I was in 11th grade. That album got me through 4 years in the Navy while working evening and/mid shifts, cranking it LOUD! Favorite cuts: After Forever, Children of the Grave and Lord of this World. Did I mention I've been a Christian this whole time? Though their music was heavy, and I was into it, I've never been tempted to do drugs, smoke or drink to excess (okay, I have gotten drunk on a few occasions) but if you're well grounded, music won't sway you to do things you ordinarily wouldn't. Don't blame the music, folks!

Imagine being Tony Martin and having to fill the shoes of not 1 but 4 living legends of the time. This is not even including Ray Gillen. Respect goes out to the man, having not one but imo four great albums with the band Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, Tyr, and Cross Purposes. With this incarnation of the band they made 3 of my all time favorite songs from the bands history Headless Cross, Glory Ride, and the Shining. Also imo there are many more great songs in this era but these are my personal favorites.

I still remember my first time with Sabbath. My dad picked out a few of his faves and handed them to me. I sat down, slapped on the cans, and had myself a good, long listen. It was one of those "and the planets aligned" moments. I've never felt anything like it since. I can't even begin to describe the impact that this music had on me.

Absolutely fantastic episode of Metal Mythos Razor. It sucks that Reichsmarshall Sharon Osbourne has effectively tried to erase 25 years of Black Sabbath's history and pretended it never happened to appease Ozzy, but hopefully some day fans can get our hands on remasters of the Tony Martin and Glenn Hughes era Sabbath records. Can't wait for the next band you eventually decide to pick for Metal Mythos.

@@Clay3613 Well besides the fact that she and Ozzy went out of their way to sabotage any momentum Black Sabbath could have gained in the 80s and 90s by threatening venue promoters with losing future Ozzy concerts if they even considered hosting Black Sabbath, Sharon has done everything to erase the existence of every singer that has joined Black Sabbath that is not named Ozzy Osbourne. That includes Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, and most importantly Ronnie James Dio and Tony Martin by not remastering and re releasing every record Black Sabbath made from 1980 onwards to pass it off like Black Sabbath broke up when Ozzy left. All because of the fact that Ozzy was jealous and insecure that Black Sabbath was still able to achieve success after kicking his drug addicted ass to the curb for being a massive flake since the Sabotage album and Sharon is going out of her way to protect the fragile little ego of her man. That's why.

What makes the Ozzy era so brilliant is that Tony Iommi would make songs that had 3-5 different riffs per song! The Ozzy era songs were journeys. They stopped making those types of songs after Ozzy left. (I’m a fan of all Black Sabbath eras, though.)
@christheghostwriter2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. They pared it way back on song arrangements in the post-Ozzy era. But that's also what helped them not just stay relevant, but to even be ahead of the curve when the New Wave of British Heavy Metal broke through in the 80s.

Bill Ward definitely is in my top 5 favorite drummers. Btw, If no one has heard Funkadelic's 1970/71 'Super Stupid,' from the Maggot Brain album, I'd definitely recommend it. It is essentially perfect contender for metal. Of course Eddie Hazel just annihilated the heavy guitar riffs, but Tiki Fullwood's drumming on it was heavier than a frozen mastodon in a sheet of ice.

I've heard a ton of interviews with Iommi where he says that Dehumanizer failed because their kind of music was not popular anymore. I call Bullshit. Yeah, yeah, yeah, grunge and all that but over the course of the previous two years AC/DC released The Razor's Edge, which was a huge hit. Ozzy had a huge comeback with No More Tears while Judas Priest's Painkiller caught the metal world completely off guard and put them back on the map. Iron Maiden released Fear Of The Dark, which got a lot of attention. Additionally, The Black album, Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power, Anthrax's The Sound Of White Noise and Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction were all huge albums. I don't know why Dehumanizer failed to get the same kind of attention and it's a damn shame. I'd have loved nothing more than the greatest metal band that ever was to have reaped some of the benefits of the early 90's metal resurgence
