That garage door installing is a whole other specialty. Even the trained pros can screw it up. It takes courage to step into the unknown. I had 3 brother in laws that ran garage door businesses. If you did it without losing a finger you did OK. I like the drip edge under the ice shield but have seen it both ways. You are an accomplished builder.

Great job Jesse! We just completed having our house covered. Dark green roof for Northern MT. You are a jack of all trades. I have to differ with you. Energy travels to a place lacking energy. Therefore, outside building heat travels inside (minus insulation value). Try choveling grain in a metal grain bin on any sunny day. You are right on the white in your location. Good Luck!

Somebody bought a nibbler. It is the ideal tool for cutting these panels. You can cut them with a high-speed grinder, but the nibbler just works better. If you are cutting down the seams, then the tool you should use is called Shears. They cut out a strip, but they are useless going over the ribs. Nibblers for cross cutting, Shears for cutting longitudinally. Like the difference between a rip saw and a crosscut saw.

A lot of times I'll see guys run Z-flash at the break of the Waynes coat as an accent, but overlapping is just as good. The shop looks pretty damn good Jesse. Must be a nice sense of accomplishment. Now you just need a huge set of Texas Longhorns to hang on the outside gable end.

Jesse, about cutting the J channel above the door: water creeps in seems so I think that you need to put silicone to prevent that water gets behind the J channel above the corners of the door. For the rest I think you did a good job!

An excellent and interesting video. I agree with the two tone look. It does't look boring this way, and the bird boxes are right too. The garage turned out great. Good job. One thing I didn't understand - when you were putting up the ceiling you talked about 3 ft and what sounded like "proper" vents. What were you alluding to ?

I have a decade of experience doing metal work. Free stall dairy barns , houses , shops , commercial buildings etc. one thing I didn’t like to see in the way you did your roof was just screwing into the osb. It works for a while, but with the expansion and contraction of the roof steel it will walk out the screws. Seen it many times. Once you find out it’s leaking like 95% of the screw holes in the osb are rotted and you can’t tighten the screws anymore. Another thing with the panels running off square, screw the overlap,just measure off of your face board then stretch or pick up in the center of the panel to shrink it.
@jmuller862 сағат бұрын
How else would I attach the screws to the roof? Thats 5/8 osb too. Would you have done purlins?
@Gitrdoneyo2 сағат бұрын
@@jmuller86 yea, certainly would’ve done purlins. Even a 1x4 on the roof sheathing would’ve helped a lot. Usually minimum 1 1/2” of wood substrate to screw to. Wind resistance can also be a problem from screwing to just osb. There is a company that makes screws they claim are made for osb think they’re called zxl woodbinder or something. But those seem to back out as well.
@jmuller862 сағат бұрын
@Gitrdoneyo that is interesting. I have not heard of this. I will have to check into it
@GitrdoneyoСағат бұрын
@@jmuller86 yea. Aluminum roofing is very bad for doing that even if screwed to 2x4 purlins it will walk out the screws over time. Once the screws are loose its leaks like mad and once wind gets underneath I’ve seen whole buildings roof be completely stripped of the steel. Live and learn I guess, nice shop otherwise , keep it up 👍
