I bought the Torpedo Live in 2012. That was before it was generally available, and I got the first delivery from the then distributor. Little did I know how this leap of faith paid out. I retired my silent cabs and all recording was done using the Torpedo. That is a big step for someone playing and recording tube amps for +35 years. It also sold me to profiling as digital tech. The original motivation was because I had super experience with IRs in Reverb plugins and units. So I thought that might work as a substitute for mic'd guitar cabs, too. Yeah, it does.

That pre amp with cab M setup is something I'd really love to use on my pedalboard when I play in church! Since we've always had issues controlling the volume of amps inside the building (it was always too loud or soft, rarely just right)
@TwoNotestv4 жыл бұрын
It's perfect for that!

I bought one of these a few months ago to play into headphones and really like it. I plug an OD, distortion and chorus into it and use the amp simulation. I plug the outputs into a stereo delay and TC Electronic reverb and then into my mini-mixer in stereo and use the headphone out. The software to tweak the amp modeling is pretty cool and I've just scratched the surface of it. I was able to tweak an existing model more to my liking. I recommend upgrading the firmware because it seems to improve the sound of a few of the amp models.

Man technology has come a LONG way since my gear choices of the 80's. Thank you for this review sir!! I only discovered you a few days ago and with everything I have watched so far, I gotta say that I rate this discovery up there with discovering Joe Bonamassa. Yeah, that's a high standard but wow. I am checking off all those boxes on my questions bucket list that has been floating around my head for years. Today it was direct interfacing for home recording and ironically, I was shopping for mics for mic'ing a modeling amp. I'll have to rethink that I think. Thanks again for the contribution!!

I got this a week ago and I freaking love it. I could never practice plugged in because I have two little kids in the house and it just wasn't feasible to play through an amp when I actually had the free time to do so. With this I can and I can actually enjoy the sound of my guitars the way they were meant to sound. I wish I had found out about this sooner! AND with the update it can also simulate a pre amp modeled after a Fender Bassman so you can use it as a pedal platform!

Hi, is 2020 Phil M around? This is a question from someone in the future, 2023. Question: So, I can just plug a Les Paul into a pedal, the pedal into my powered-up Cab M, and use my earphones to practice? No speaker/load needed coz I ain't using a valve amp -- when I try to plug the Cab M into my Yamaha DBR 12 active speaker I get terrible hum - any way to fix that? ....Oh, and you survived the Pandemic btw

Hi Philip. I have a problem with my squire strat. I changed the strings the other day, not different strings just a new set. Went to play one of the only songs I can play completely (Metallica-one) and realised that the b string would play but it was very quiet through the amp compared to the other strings when I played. I have no idea what this is and was wondering if you and your community might know. Thanks

Phil thanks for the video. Can you please tell us the differences in tone of Marshall 2061 head and SC20H? Better yet a comparison video if possible. Thanks again brother.
@maxmustardman2984 жыл бұрын
The 2061 is probably less compressed and has less gain, since its not a master volume amp like sc20. I would say its basically like the sv20, the sv20 being the better option with its 3 band eq. Not that it makes such a huge difference on the old plexis ;)

Hi Phillip! May be you can help me, i'm searching a pedal that has a "jam" function, i remember it was in the Digitech Trio, i've seen it in a video some time ago. But the problem is the Trio has a "learn" mode, not a jamming mode. I remember it sounded like a really improvised band making stupid sounds, but it was super interesting because it reacted on how the dynamic of playing was and the fundamental notes on bass where unpredictable in some way.
@fredstevens7994 жыл бұрын
the Positive Grid Spark amp has that - it has canned bass and drums of several genres that you can immediately jam to as well as it can "learn" a (short) tune you invent and provide the rhythm section (with different virtual players!) for a jam. It connects to youtube backing tracks that you can jam along with also. The (loud 40-watt) amp also provides a jillion gate/boost/compression/amp model/delay/modulation/reverb effects combinations to use while you are jamming... also has headphones (silent) and audio/recording interface out.....

What's the physical difference between M+ and M? ....C.A.B.M+ will be released and be on market? ...Negative upon my survey. Phil, great review as always! I have a problem with understanding some of the nuances of this device since I am very new to this IR thing. I understand I can hook up amp head to this and to speaker and then from CabM run the signal to DAW, headphones, studio speakers, PA, etc. That part is not an issue. However, I am interested to know what happens if I plug signal like this: Amp head out -> CAB M -> guitar speaker cabinet? Do I hear stuff through speaker cabinet if I dont plug in CAB M to headphones or anything else after that? Would then changing the setting on CabM, for example changing the cabinet type or adding reverb would change sound coming out of my physical cabinet? I am interested to see if I could use it as a sort of guitar-effect pedal this way in amp-cabinet situation, not only using it to propagate signal to computer, headphones, etc. While I perfectly understand that the device is primarily designed for the latter, can it only be used to modify sound between actual guitar head and the cab? Thanks for clarification! Best wishes, Joe
@TwoNotestv4 жыл бұрын
The 'effects' added by the CAB M only come out through the DI out, the "out" to the speaker is unaffected at all times!

@FloridaManRacer4 жыл бұрын
okay i wonder though, how much does this actually mess with the natural sound of the equipment? I mean if changing the speaker in the cab makes a difference to the sound of an amp then wouldn't what you're hearing through the headphones/studio monitors etc. be changed as well as they aren't the cab speaker? I don't pretend to know how all this affects the natural signal/sound you'd hear out of just plugging into the stack and playing which is why I ask...
@jbbeaudry4 жыл бұрын
What’s the difference between running the amp through the pedal then the load box and running the amp through the load box then the IR/cab sim ? I used to run my tube amps through a Torpedo Captor, then a Mooer Radar IR pedal (because the built in cab sounds bad) into the DI/DAW. Here it seems to be the other way around. I have recently upgraded to the Captor X so I don’t use my old stuff anymore, but I am curious to know.

I very much prefer head into Two notes then into attenuator the other was around was darker
