Whitechapel "When a Demon Defiles a Witch" from "The Valley." Directed by Mathis Arnell - www.naughtymant...
Lyrics:
They appear
I remember when the fire was security
Now it’s killing me
A wolf can’t hunt without its prey
So take me to my grave
The demons dance by the fireside
But tonight they migrate to my bedside
Burn the bed
Burn everything
It’s a lie anyway
There’s nowhere left to run
There’s nowhere left for me to be
Without you by my side
How could the world take you from me
They all deserve to burn with me
I cry but if you take a closer look
You’ll see it’s a demon’s eyes
There’s no coming back for me
For my spirit guide is trapped inside my brain
I don’t know who I am
In the name of the father and the holy ghost
Close your gates, lock the doors, there is no hope
What has the world come to
When a demon defiles a witch
Nobody trusts a word I say
I can’t erase these memories
But I will erase humanity

Nah. I'm a fan of both, have been for a long time. Mikael Akerfeldt has a massive vocal range both clean and dirty. Haven't heard anything from Whitechapel that makes me think they could hit that kind of contrast. That and the music itself would change so much in an instant. Ghost of Perdition was a perfect example of both instances. That isn't to say I don't like the direction Whitechapel has went in, I do, but it's too different to be considered the next/new Opeth imo.

I applaud the man who portrayed he Demon here, such a masterful actor. Every frame he appears in and shows emotion for, even for a split second, you can see it all. The way he seems to show compassion, but keeps screwing her mind, then enjoys and celebrates the suffering, and the smirk in the end...fantastic portrayal of mental illness, the demon that sits inside your head, an all-consuming predator with a thousand faces, often friendly to make you more vulnerable. This cinematography resonates with me a lot Massive respect to the band, the actors, the director!

Phil explained that the “demon” mentioned in the title is not referring to his stepfather, but instead referring to a personal demon named “Mycar” that Phil’s mother wrote about in her journal. She suffered from a myriad of serious mental issues, and Phil said that she was diagnosed as having 34 different personalities, which would all appear in her personal journal that she kept (even the handwriting would change with each personality). This song specifically references that demon “Mycar”. And sadly so much more to read...... After reading this i can easily understand Phils transformation. This is an emotional metamorphosis for him. We have Zero right to knock this. I am very sorry myself for some things ive said. Hard to see past this materialistic world sometimes. I apologize.

Yea, even if you pay attention to the symbolism in the music video, the old guy is the demon "Mycar" & the woman is supposed to be Phil's mom, & in the guitar solo section of this music video, it looks like she's being possessed but I think it might be the retelling of Phil's mother writing in her journal that she was being "raped" by "Mycar"

it is definitely a relief to hear a band actually EXPAND their art instead of abandoning it altogether for something totally different that sucks and no one likes. Because I fucking love this whitechapel sound. Always an OG fan but this new shit is pretty fucking amazing

This is actually one of the few times where I've seen a band progress in a way that didn't turn into absolute shit. They're experimenting with different sounds while also not straying too far from their original style. I'm very impressed and thoroughly enjoy this entire album.

Not about his stepdad but yeah about his mom. "Phil explained that the “demon” mentioned in the title is not referring to his stepfather, but instead referring to a personal demon named “Mycar” that Phil’s mother wrote about in her journal. She suffered from a myriad of serious mental issues, and Phil said that she was diagnosed as having 34 different personalities, which would all appear in her personal journal that she kept (even the handwriting would change with each personality)."
