They appear I remember when the fire was security Now it’s killing me A wolf can’t hunt without its prey So take me to my grave The demons dance by the fireside But tonight they migrate to my bedside Burn the bed Burn everything It’s a lie anyway There’s nowhere left to run There’s nowhere left for me to be Without you by my side How could the world take you from me They all deserve to burn with me I cry but if you take a closer look You’ll see it’s a demon’s eyes There’s no coming back for me For my spirit guide is trapped inside my brain I don’t know who I am In the name of the father and the holy ghost Close your gates, lock the doors, there is no hope What has the world come to When a demon defiles a witch Nobody trusts a word I say I can’t erase these memories But I will erase humanity

Phil explained that the “demon” mentioned in the title is not referring to his stepfather, but instead referring to a personal demon named “Mycar” that Phil’s mother wrote about in her journal. She suffered from a myriad of serious mental issues, and Phil said that she was diagnosed as having 34 different personalities, which would all appear in her personal journal that she kept (even the handwriting would change with each personality).This song specifically references that demon “Mycar”. And sadly so much more to read...... After reading this i can easily understand Phils transformation. This is an emotional metamorphosis for him. We have Zero right to knock this. I cannot possibly believe that no one won't agree with me on this; Everything and every effort that has gone into this, is seriously top notch no question asked. A lyric that bleeds as much as this does. From childhood to adulthood. The ability to open up your past to fans that love your craft. Imo. Whitechapel are continously climbing the ladder risking everything whilst pouring every little detail into their work. Metal music has come far, and trancended further than what i thought could be possible. It mainly used to be all about; fuck this and that, like humanity in its broadens sense which used to be cool. Now it is all about conveying all of your emotions into it. Confronting what used to be the greatest fears and the wellbeing of someone. How the heavy music scene has changed, evovled and really become something great. Proud to say i am a fan of Whitechapel.

I just don't understand deathcore fans. They seem to think that all serious music should be restricted to low tuned breakdowns, chugging, blast beats, growling and pig squeals. But I don't see what's wrong with a band expanding its sonic palette to include more melody, sections with clean vocals and guitars, and more varied riffs. If anything it only adds to the music, it doesn't remove anything. It's their seventh album, do you really expect the same thing as their first few?
@lilg0thy4825 жыл бұрын
Imo the description you typed is more death metal. I do love the mix of clean vocals with the heaviness of the instruments, it blends nicely. But all death core bands do shit differently. There's nothing wrong with it when it's done well. I don't think all of the people who hate on the style change dislike those new elements - some definitely do - but for me at least, the issue is that they've tried to do new things at the expense of watering down the heaviness of the music. You can have brutality and melody in the same song; a lot of bands do it well, and Whitechapel has done it well in the past (let me burn, diggs road). A good example here is the transition from the clean vocal break into the guitar solo. Great melodic buildup to a long solo with heavy riffs. But I personally don't like how the solo transitions back into the chorus with cleans and harsh vocals together, because the cleans sound really cheesy to me there and it takes all the weight out of the sound.

My first thoughts about this song was unfulfilled romantic love. A history of a pair of lovers in which something went wrong, not as it should be. Two souls made for each other that got parted by some adversities. Like... Imagine a boy and a girl. Untypical teenagers which fell in love with each other and wanted to live together till the end, create their own family without problems that each of them had, like pathology, poverty, addictions, lack of familiar love, not enough of hope. Both were broken somehow, but instead of fix each other, work hard trying to make the world a better place, realising all dreams, fix everything possible to fix, help everyone and live happy ever after, they both broke each other even more by wrong choices, misunderstanding, fear and those adversities plus people around both of them that contributed to lose their connection. Boy finally left that girl thinking that they won't succeed. Later, that girl died in accident or totally changed herself and started a new life without him, with someone else, forgetting him, but even if he hurt and left her, he realised she was the one and only. After that, he started to destroy himself and everything around him, taking revenge on this world and himself, helping no one, not taking any other chances, hopeless, falling in autodestruction and hate instead of love and joy of life. Now play this song again and imagine what I wrote here. This is hard and sad, but I can relate to that. I must admit here. I have strong depression for long years that reflects on literally everything, always been depressive, waiting for salvation that she was, but my addictions and mental issues lead me to my grave faster each day. She seriously cut herself and wanted take her life. I stopped it. I had no one before and won't have after her. I doubt in us and that was my biggest mistake. We could be perfect, ideal. But I still wonder how is she, wishing her best.

I applaud the man who portrayed he Demon here, such a masterful actor. Every frame he appears in and shows emotion for, even for a split second, you can see it all. The way he seems to show compassion, but keeps screwing her mind, then enjoys and celebrates the suffering, and the smirk in the end...fantastic portrayal of mental illness, the demon that sits inside your head, an all-consuming predator with a thousand faces, often friendly to make you more vulnerable. This cinematography resonates with me a lot Massive respect to the band, the actors, the director!

Deep dive their stuff man. They started out more in the vein of grindcore influenced deathcore and transitioned into a more groove laden sound that imo is more fun to listen to. However, their first couple albums are sick regardless and catch that old school deathcore sound. Poke through all of their albums if you haven't already. There are hidden gems in each.

@@Nosh69696 no. that's incorrect. Phil explained that the “demon” mentioned in the title is not referring to his stepfather, but instead referring to a personal demon named “Mycar” that Phil’s mother wrote about in her journal. Interesting Fact: Produced once again by Mark Lewis (CANNIBAL CORPSE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER) and featuring artwork by Branca Studio, "The Valley"'s title is a reference to the part of Hardin Valley (west of Knoxville) where vocalist Phil Bozeman grew up. Set against this backdrop, he approaches his subject matter unflinchingly, building upon everything that came before, making it clear that he has survived that which he was forced to endure and is not afraid to confront it. "Phil has been upfront in his lyrics in the past about hardships he endured in his life as a child, and I believe with this record we tried to paint a better picture of that," says guitarist Alex Wade, who alongside his bandmates, stands a hundred percent behind everything their vocalist has to say. "I feel our music is Phil's release from his past, being able to get it out and speak about it, and hopefully anyone who hears it that may have gone through similar experiences can find some release in it as well." Anyone throwing "The Valley" on for the first time will immediately recognize it as the work of WHITECHAPEL, yet, as has been the case with each release, there is also evolution in play. "Sound-wise, it's all over the place," Bozeman states plainly. "There's aggression, and then you're hit with ominous and emotional guitar riffs. It's mean, but then transfers to soft and inviting. It's a whirlwind of emotions throughout." On an Instagram Live Story on February 27th, 2019, Phil Bozeman explained the meanings of the currently released singles from The Valley. Phil explained that the “demon” mentioned in the title is not referring to his stepfather, but instead referring to a personal demon named “Mycar” that Phil’s mother wrote about in her journal. She suffered from a myriad of serious mental issues, and Phil said that she was diagnosed as having 34 different personalities, which would all appear in her personal journal that she kept (even the handwriting would change with each personality). This song specifically references that demon “Mycar”. Phil showed and read excerpts from his mother’s journal, focusing on a couple of lines where his mother explained that a demon named “Mycar” would sexually assault her in her bed, taking the physical form of Phil’s father. The title of the song actually comes from a line in his mother’s journal, where she describes the sexual assault: “It takes on Gary’s bluish-gray body, a real physical body, a dead body raping me - a devil raping a witch”. (Gary was Phil’s father’s name). The lines in the song’s pre-chorus are also taken from her journal: “The incubus, it happens, no matter where I sleep in this bed, in my place, in his place, it still happens. I thrash from side to side yet it still happens. It hurts so bad, again and again. Burn the bed, yes, burn everything. Liar.”
