I fully agree. Last year I gave one of my grandsons my metal detector as I no longer use it. I also gave him some of my finds from way back in the 70's. They were ww2 stuff like we see here. The only difference is they were found on English soil. possibly dumped as excess after the conflict but may also have been at some point, in the possession of the local home guard . They were scattered in a ploughed field in Bedfordshire, Arlesley, to be precise. Both hand grenades I found were deactivated, charge and detonator removed. I've sent links to grandson where the finds I gave him match what these gents here do. I just hope it kicks off a spark of interest in our joined up history.

My dad fought there as part of the 12th SS-Division. He was 17 years old and knocked out two tanks in close combat. On the retreat he was badly wounded and his life was saved by the Americans. Even after 60 years he really got nervous when he heard the noise of a tracked vehicle live a bulldozer.

Great video! Really enjoyed this one. I like to read books and study the Ardennes offensive. Seeing the terrain really makes one wonder what the German command was thinking about how the area could have been successful for a major armor offensive. I can only imagine how many relics have been unearthed in the Ardennes since the end of the war. Many still waiting to be found! There is also a possibility of encountering a land mine or grenade still in the area. Would be cool to see some guns Unearthed in a future relic hunt.

@@mdww2battlegrounds True! You guys are living the prime time for hunting ww2 stuff too. Here in the states, it was like that back in the 1950s and 1960s for hunting our Civil War battle fields and camps. The old timers only hunted for big signals...cannonballs, artillery shells, guns, belt plates, etc. Some of it was just under the leaves. Now, all those big signals are gone. The battle sites are off limits, etc. People like me are just getting scraps like individual buttons, bullets, etc. In places that have been hunted with metal detectors for 70 years.

I think I probably know the answer, but why do you not specifically identify the location you are detecting in? Is it because you don’t want people who don’t know what they are doing going bumbling around digging up things that might go bang, I suspect that is the overriding reason, and also to stop hordes of dealers coming in with heavy equipment and stripping the areas of everything, leaving a mess behind, and giving the good detectorists, like yourselves, a bad reputation, all dealers care about is how much money 💰£$¥€ something would get them, that in itself is bad enough, but they also don’t care about the stories behind the artefacts, whenever you and your fellow detectorists find something that could be identified as belonging to an individual or unit you treat it with respect and try to find out more of how such articles got to where they are discovered by yourselves, thank you for that and for sharing your adventures. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴 The barrel you found virtually on the surface reminds me of the oil canisters that we had in my time in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 military, once they were empty they were not much use for anything and sometimes they did get left behind, (admittedly not always accidentally) the only thing that they were useful for was sitting on when all the proper chairs and stools were occupied and for making makeshift tables out of them, using them as legs and a few pits of pallet for the top. I agree that the signal flare cartridge looked quite modern, but I know it was not British, our cartridges, at least from my service from 1979-2003, were shorter and have a larger diameter, but colour and paint markings are pretty much identical. Didn’t the allies call the (please excuse my spelling) KetenKart “rabbits”? I know I have heard that somewhere before but can’t remember where.
