You can cut a thread with the stock and die squarely in the lathe without all of this. No need to make anything. Anyway, I don't use a die..........I screw cut all ofl my threads in the lathe. Use the star wheel and chasing dial and it doesn't take long to cut a thread. Metric/imperial. Internal/external. I use a die to clean a thread.

Why did you make the insert piece? Do the dies come in different outer diameter sizes that you wanted to change them? Otherwise why not make it one piece?

Absolutely great idea and badly needed. The whole tap and die system is absurd. For both taps and dyes the centre of force needs to be directly behind the work piece so as to ensure everything is centering correctly. So why do we have to endure these stupid torque bars allying a force far from the work piece held on by badly gripping grub screw? . Come on manufacturers the system is screaming out for change.
