I think including Metallica cover was a genius way to show others how an AIC should be covered(by Dallas Green). Dallas Green can never out AIC Layne, but he chose his own way to honor their song, and I'd argue it's quite possibly better than the original.

Dallas definitely has a beautiful voice. I like that his reinterpretation of this song is an homage and not an attempt to mimic AIC. Some more Canadian talent to check out is Ian Thornley/Big Wreck. In an October 19, 2020 article at Revolvermag, Sevendust's John Connolly lists 5 great non-metal albums for metalheads and one of those is 1997's Big Wreck-In Loving Memory Of... He said they wore it out while writing 'Home'. About ILMO "although it isn't a metal record at all, is one that most metal musicians are very aware of due to the vocal and guitar skills of Ian Thornley...lyrically and musically a brilliant album...'Prayer' a true standout track".

In my heart of hearts, like all too many females I know think also, Dal is...mine, haha. Yeah yeah Leah is in fact the luckiest grrrrl in the world these last 17+ years, but having been here on CA home soil I was able to be front & centre at all so many AoF then City & Colour events it became too easy to become addicted to his very self. His voice has evolved and in Sweet Dreams of Otherness (AOF newest album), he took it.... THERE. I listen to isolated vocal tracks of Layne so very often & wish someone with the skillset, could do the same for DGs vocals. I happened on your video during another rabbit hole seek out for even more Dallas vocals... if you have not heard his AOF album with original gents plus his most vulnerable EVER City and Colour album that just came out few months ago.... I cannot rec. enough. AOF has restructured and created a new grown up, yet still the same, album.

James vocals were not up to the task of Layne and Jerry's vocals. As a massive fan of AIC it just didn't sound pleasing at all. I was hoping for so much more. But like i mentioned, i had watched nearly all of the covers from most of the bands and more than a few of them were not the greatest, while others were absolutely beautiful. What were your thoughts on Metallica's "Would?" cover?
@ork_oz4 жыл бұрын
@@myauramusic James is a Thrash metal singer basically. After 40 years singing screaming thrash ofc his voice not same anymore but as a longtime Metallica fan I can't be objective I like it but its too short and lack of bass intro and outro :/
@myauramusic4 жыл бұрын
True, but he still does have a good voice, he works hard and still belts out all the classics plus more. Its just his range isn't suited to stuff like ALICE IN CHAINS. He sounded ok in the verse, but the chorus you could tell he was struggling. But it is good to see all these famous bands acknowledging how AIC changed the music scene during the 90's, and shaped plenty of musicians over the years including myself :)

You would never guess Metallica was one of the greatest metal bands ever if someone just didnt know them and watched that cover. Already too busy in the intro, weird arrangement, doesnt work.
