The scale that Kirk used for this solo (also on blackened and roam) to give it that twangy Egyptian vibe is so underrated. I hope he uses it on the new album.

I was there 34 years ago at the Philadelphia Spectrum with my sister & cousin. My sister was 13 and this was her 1st concert & Jimmy's 1st time seeing mighty Metallica in 1989! Still got my ticket stub. RIP Eddie, Ernie, and Philadelphia Spectrum 😢
@DeborahSmith-h2yАй бұрын
I was there too. It was my first real concert. Eye Of The Beholder and Blackened were the first Metallica songs I've ever heard and I became a fan. Being a 16 year old kid and seeing those guys performing on stage in their prime was almost surreal. And I remember when they were tearing down the Spectrum they were selling the seats out of there for $700 a pop. I saw quite a few shows there and a good amount of Flyers games too. It was always fun to watch Eric Lindross beat someone's a$$. I saw a lot of Monster Truck rallies abd tractor pulls there too. One time a monster truck drove right up into the seats. Luckily the section was empty andv nobody was sitting there. They were some great times.

This is the lyrical essence of "...and justice for all", next to the title track. Just like a part 2 to it. "justice", "independence", "freedome"... Such an underrated, important song on this lp. I've always noticed that, from the first time i listened the whole album, but i fear many-many didn't. Great live performance btw! 😅🤘🏻🥲
@yobrethren Жыл бұрын
I've been listening to that specific track on and off (mostly due to awesome hard and heavy structure, riffz and solo), but it is very hard in the lyrics department as well! That last block after the solo section is just brutal "You silence just to hear yourself", "Freedom no longer frees you" AJFA, and especially Blackened, Dyers Eve and One are all awesome, but EOtB is just fist in your face kinda song, which i can do nothing but *respect*

Am I hearing the Lars playing perfectly clean 8th notes? This is the same guy who can't use his left kick drum during the "Darkness" segment of One, right? The double bass beat that every drummer recognizes and almost all of them can play start to finish without gassing out or cramping up?
@midnight3472 жыл бұрын
Lars was a monster in the 80s. He was pretty good through the late 90s then started getting lazy he sounds alot better last couple years though. Around this time the entire band was on fire.
@tyminor93662 жыл бұрын
Honestly man, I beg to differ. If you listen to their performance of One at the 1989 Grammys, Lars still plays: kick, kick, kick, snare kick, kick, kick, snare kick, kick, kick, snare kick, kick, kick, snare, snare And we all know the album version goes: kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, snare kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, snare kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, snare kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, snare, snare Even back then, Lars' double bass button was finicky

@@tyminor9366The point that you described it like that tells me you’re not a drummer. He played that part. You know how bad it would sound if he played it like you described. It wouldn’t go with the guitar at all
@tyminor9366 Жыл бұрын
@@jd0879 They had their hacks back in the day. If you listen closely to that performance, you can hear Jason playing the stop 'n' go pattern at the point where lars is supposed to play it alone to transition into the "darkness" segment. Its subtle but if you listen to the feel of the kicks with a good set of headphones, you can hear that the sound guy tweaked Jason's EQ to help him fill in Lars' missing notes. On top of that, James and Kirk would accent their parts to line up a little better with Lars. But the main ingredient was playing that part at a higher bpm so it takes a trained ear to notice. It's fairly easy to hear if you don't cut them the kind of slack they had up till the Napster thing. To Lars' credit though, he's getting his shit together with double bass these days. All it took was 40 years and the band threatening to replace him.

They're cool but not Metallica 83-91 cool. Enter sandman is a good song not great and it's been overplayed to death so I'd basically rather hear any Metallica song before it. Doesn't take away how great the black album is top to bottom there's alot of bangers on that album. When the Black album came out and I first heard it I kind of just stared into space wonder wtf happened. I thought for sure the whole band lineup changed or something. I went from being so bummed when my radio station would play a shorter version of "One" to just being bummed whenever any Black album Metallica was played.
