I was only 3 years old back in 84' when Fade To Black Came out. I never remembered it being playing on the radio but, I remembered hearing this dark enchanting sound coming from a neighbors window, Fade To Black was flowing out from there and I got awe-struct. And at age three, only 4 songs stood out to me that time and took my soul else where as a baby between 84-88... • Madonna- Live To Tell • Berlin- Take My Breath Away • Tina Turner- What's Love Got To Do With It And this one that finally held dear to me when I turned 8 years old... • Metallica's Fade To Black ❤. I'd cry for days about this song even after an event that had happened to me since I was only 5 years old and then to hear this song again after 6 years of an ugly and painful abuse and feeling that it was speaking to me, believe me, it almost resulted into an ugly situation. I cry everytime I'd hear Fade To Black. I became a never ending Metallica fan since then.

@@Khamûl0fTheEast Mahalo for the love. I'm 37 now and some things have Heald. But the shame is my only help I ever had was music, besides my loving and very strong mother. I've grown to instill some sense of peace within when I look around and see others experiencing their own kind of pain. And the only comfort I have lay within the music of bands like Metallica, Alice N Chains, Korn, Stained, Pearl Jam, Hole, Tool, Led Zeppelin, U2, Rage Against The Machine, The Cranberries, Linkin Park, The Cure... I could go on. I still rely on these bands. To find that self control. Once again thank you. Aloha🌺

Every friggin' time I hear this song (I was 14 when I came out in '84 so that's a long time, thousands of times) I get choked up. The lyrics relate to how i've felt at my lowest and darkest times yet the final solo is so inspirational and uplifting; It brings me out of my funk and shows me the light... Such an awesome song! My absolute all time fav... Love your reaction!

probably my favorite song from my favorite album by metallica... holds special meaning for me since this was my song during dark times... never actually attempted suicide, but was shortly before that step during a deep depressive phase so these lyrics quite hit home... Funny thing is that sad, melancholic songs cheered me up during that time.
@rofyle4 жыл бұрын
This is one of those strange songs like "Suicide Is Painless" that should make you feel depressed and suicidal, but actually makes you feel better because it lets you know that other people feel like you do.

Don't apologize for being emotional at the end - I think it'd be a bit odd if you *weren't* emotional at all given some of the things you've gone through that you alluded to. Epic song, nice reaction, and good comments at the end. Keep it up!

You are totally right. No matter how strong you are, how beautiful you are, how successful you are right now, all have had very bad days because of a broken hearth or dissapointed for someone or life itself, or maybe we screw it up in the worst way and this song is that about, it's a way to let it all out. Metallica is one of my favorite bands!

love the way you are feeling the music....its written all over your BEAUTIFUL face :) the lyric that always gets me is "emptiness is filling me, to the point of AGONY the rage and emphasis James puts on agony" - anyone who has expeienced great loss or some kind of trauma within themseves will relate to this piece of poetry!

I think Every song on this album showed every other thrash metal band around back then that Metallica were different, they had something to say,not just scream about demons & hell & play 1000 mph all the time. Ride the Lightning will always be a special album to me. Still love it after all these years.

@@sharissequeenbee5857 Probably the craziest concert footage in existence. The backstory is the Soviet Union was months away from crumbling and becoming a normal country again. Time Warner wanted to get their foot in the door of this brand new market (it would be like if North Korea became a free country, all kinds of companies would be dying to get in there), so they put on a FREE concert in an airfield outside of Moscow. It had AC/DC, Metallica, Pantera and Motley Crue on the bill so naturally half of Russia showed up lol. Estimates range from a million to 1.6 million in the crowd. The crowd literally stretches past the horizon. They had military providing security including a helicopter flying over the crowd (in the Soviet Union, police and military were essentially the same thing). You get to see these people experience live heavy metal for the first time and celebrate their newfound freedom. Spine chilling stuff

*Fun fact:* The rhythm guitarist, vocalist and co-founding member of the band, James Hetfield, had his guitar amp stolen as the band were loading equipment off the truck. It was a traumatic struggle to deal with as that amp was a gift from his mother, who died when he was aged 15. The lyrics of this song were inspired through this as James was so angry and sad he almost felt suicidal. Hence the name of the song Fade to Black.

I've been "under a rock" as far as Rap music the last couple of years (just too much "he said, she said" drama for me...Pac rolling over in his grave and Snoop probably pukes every day because the commerciality that's plagued Rock and Country is finally firmly implanted in Rap now), but I just caught the lyrics to the intro music and got a good laugh out of it. I needed that, and it's about damn time somebody threw some bars at the Sports World... something new, outside of the mold, and THAT'S what rap is supposed to be. Good stuff. Ride the Lightning and Garage Days are the best that Metallica has ever put out. There's not one "bad" cut on either of em. Not to say Puppets and Justice are any less iconic, but the two formers are my personal favorites. (Metallica lost me after And Justice for All anyway) I suppose it's kinda like the "Guns n Roses" curse when a band's best efforts come out first, or really early, and anything after just isn't on the same level.

I loved Judas Preist Screaming For Vengeance, Number of the Beast, Ozzy Blizzard & Diary , Krokus Headhunter , Wasp , Ratt , Sabbath, and the list goes on & on ...... One day an accuantance from out of town pulled up next to me with For whom the bell tolls playing .... and it was just like Majic to my ears, it had a draw to it, it had that Thing ... where you just know you need to hear this again & you must know who this band is .... so I find out its Metallica, some new band at the time. ... So a few days went by, couldnt wait to drop into the music store on payday & see if they had this Metallica cassette (lol) .. He didnt, heavilty dissapointed, needless to say when I saw the guy again, it wasnt relly his kind of music & he traded it to me for something I had ... so now I had my OWN Ride the Lightning from this new band Metallica that Nobody had heard of (atleast in my town) ...... I Wore that cassette Out, played the whole album all the time, me & my freind became diehard Metallica fans fast. To me, From the 5.98EP release to Kill em All and even the Whiplash ep release. It was ALL awesome, Every song, every Note from beginning to the end. and whiole Justoice was good, to me it wasnt Great. To me its like 2 different bands Before Justice & After Justice.

I agree it wasn't the same after in justice. I was blasting punk late at night at the service station I worked at in Santa Cruz Ca. when this kid came by, and handed me a cassette of thrash metal bands.He said I could have it but only if I promised to make copies and hand them out because that's how they were promoting these bands. Metallica was one of them and as soon as I heard them I was hooked.
