I lost my mom to breast cancer when I was only 15 years old. I'm 45 now, and still think of her everyday. This song struck a chord with me the 1st time I heard it, and still does today. I can relate to this song a lot. I feel for anyone that loses a parent at any age, but specially the young ones that lose them too early.

Imagine being James in this time, well into your 30s and already experienced being the lead in the biggest metal band of all time. You pour your heart and soul out on an intimate and personal song from a more experimental album and all your fans do is call it shit because it doesn’t sound like Master of Puppets anymore. Load/Reload get better with age. I start to relate more and more with the songs and their decision to move away from thrash as I get older. I’m glad to see others feel the same as time goes on

So, I forgot about this Metallica song until I came across it while I was viewing other videos. I was bawling by the time it was over. I raised one son as a single mother and it was hard. He moved out at 16 and it's been a struggle the last 3 plus years to repair our relationship. I searched and searched for a song to dedicate to him that had some significance to our relationship for his 18th birthday. This one was sitting under my nose and it's from my favorite band too! Thank you again Metallica for another great one. Tristin, if you ever read this, know that I love you and tried my best. In my ❤ always, Mom

This song has a strong message, it talks about a son who loses his mother early and needs to mature early, and that son is James Hetfield, something he needed to overcome and move on in life, a lot of Metallica fans call this album crap , unfortunately, there are few people who see much beyond music, Mama Said is a work of art that few musicians, even rock musicians, are able to produce such art and express the strong message it has, Metallica is more than a band from Heavy and Thrash Metal, it's the band of life!🙏🔥❤

I wasn’t raised in the 90s but I’m sure a lot of hardcore Metallica fans were like, “Metallica going country? Are you fucking serious?” But looking back today, it’s a great song in my opinion that brings out James’ real emotion about his late mother .

Lost my mother to cancer in June and I'm still grieving inside. It comes and goes, like waves. The last verse hits me hard...I live in a foreign country, went back to her as much as the job allowed me to.. Longest phone talks everyday. She was my best friend, amazing human being.A teacher, she would stay at school, unpaid for the extra hours, just to do theatre workshops and let kids express themselves through art.I miss her so much.I just wish I could have made her proud while she was on earth, that she could hear the album I'm recording. I just hope she is a better place and maybe in time I will be able to let go of all this pain.

I can't even sing along to this without the sadness wavering in my voice. I miss my mom, lung cancer from smoking those damn Marlboro red soft packs took her from us. Love your mother while she's still around. You usually only get one. Don't take her love for granted. You never know how much time you have. You're gonna miss them hugs and that love she had for you. Losing her hurts worse than any physical pain I've ever felt. Rips your heart right out of your chest and leaves a big hole you can't fill with anything. Only time helps heal that shit, but it never fully heals. That pain stays with you.

@Matt Walker, She's in spirit and watches your life. You are loved. You can talk to her. The moment you say her name aloud, her spirit comes instantly to you. Love is the bond that keeps you together. I lost my father at 17 years, and my mom recently. You can ask your mom for help or for signs. If you want to know what she's feeling or thinking though unless you meditate, you'd need to contact a psychic Medium. Usually you can find them at a metaphysical bookstore or even online. There are some awesome ones. Blessings.

I agree completely. without songs like this metal wouldnt be its fullest potential because to me, metal IS a form of emotion. many metal heads im sure can agree with the fact that, anything fast, agressive, lyrically driven is more about the meaning and message then the entertainment of the song. this work is why I love metal, and music in general. It just goes to show who's in it for the message not the money. ya know? #musicislife

When I was a teenager this song gave me the chills everytime I listened to it. Cuz just the thought of losing my mom was unbearable, and now, after I lost my mom 2 years ago, listening to this song was not a very good idea. It brought me to tears, and I rarely cry.

My first concert was Metallica during the "Load" tour in January of 1996. I was 12, went with my older brother. Changed my life. Korn opened for the them and was "booed" throughout their whole set lol. Anyways, that was my first Metallica experience and I'm proud to say I've seen them 3 times and even flown to San Francisco from AZ to see them since. My all time favorite band and "Load" is the first album I heard from them. Good music is good music.

People bash Metallica for straying away from their thrash roots in the 90's and 2000's but honestly they wrote some great rock songs, its a shame when people can't appreciate both.

Well we usually go with out very first memories and the first stuff we ever heard, as first impressions are usually the most important, so many of us love the old thrash Metallica. As far as what's sad, it's even sadder when you get these people who are ready to kill you for criticizing Metallica or their other fave bands..fighting over music is indeed ridiculous..

Human race will never advance? It has advanced in the past. There's evidence of that everywhere. Human race has advanced and keeps advancing. However what would keep human race from advancing is fear of change and the hatred of change that always accompanies fear. Nothing progresses without change. The hatred of change is an evil thing. Evil and illogical. Why hate on Metallica for changing? Sure, they're different now but different doesn't equal bad. Metallica's Load/Re-Load period was great. Ofc not everyone likes this kind of music but to diss and artist just because it's not for your taste is simply childish and ignorant.

***** Of course the human race has advanced..Albert Einstein said that he didn't know what weapons WW3 would be fought with but WW4 would be fought with sticks and stones...progress...

Kain Nosgoth That's not a fact though. You can't take famous persons quotes as facts. For all we know WW4 will never happen. For all we know it will be fought with the same technology we currently have. Maybe with lasers or with technology we cannot even imagine right now. 100 years ago nobody could have imagined internet. You couldn't even explain it to them. The reason he said that was because nuclear warfare fantasy was a hot topic at the time. U.S.A had just nuked Japan. It only seemed like nuclear warfare is the next step in warmonger. Einstein was not a god. He was not all knowing and just like every other person his thoughts and opinions were affected by current events. He said it to make a point but if we look past that then his opinion on WW3 and WW4 are dated and irrelevant. Progress.

I first heard this song at the age of 14 and I was so happy about it. I was already a huge Metallica fan but I had lost my mom when I was 8. And to hear one of my favorite metal bands relate to the pain I felt on a personal level was so intimate for me. Still loving it and all the Metallica songs to this day ❤️

I remember the first time I heard this song. My father bought me Load just one day before he went to NY to work. He spend almost 4 years away from home and at that time I did know if I will be able to see him any time soon. I felt that moment as a huge lost (thank God my father is alive). Every time I hear this song my memory goes back almost 20 years. It was a hard time, but at the same time that time formed my character.
