I have this concert on CD. I've always liked Symphonies with rock bands. The first one to do it was Deep Purple in the early 70s. Now every power metal band records with a symphony. I like all of it..

From the cello-centric metal I definitely thought Apocalyptica as mentioned at the end of the video. But from the orchestral perspective, two concerts IMMEDIATELY came to mind: Yngwie Malmsteen - Live with Japanese Philharmonic Orchestra and Steve Vai's performance with an orchestra...I want to say that concert/DVD is called Visual Sound Theories.

Great choice Kel. I love live performances and I think this song somewhat demonstrates the depth of the band. I loved all the change ups in it. Through your show I'm just now really listening to Metallica and I want more. What a great, generous homegrown band. I'm hooked. Thanks to Rich for showing the James Hetfield video the other day. Rich has taught Kel well and I think it's going to be fun watching Kel choose the music that she is curious about. Everybody stay safe. Peace and love to all. Scott in Phoenix PS Kamikaze Kelli

There's a great bit in the documentary for this concert where Jason talks about how even a lot of the stuffed shirts in the crowd who just came to see the orchestra ended up on their feet pumping their fists to the songs.

True Story: When my sister-in-law was getting married our gift to her and her hubby-to be was that we paid for the bar and the DJ. My wife and I spent quite a few hours with the DJ going through and getting the names of specific songs that we knew SHE liked and setting up all the rest. The wedding goes off without a hitch and the DJ had just done the “Ladies and gentlemen I present Mr. and Mrs. Blah Blah”! As we’re about to eat we suddenly hear this Christian music blasting at us from the speakers. That was definitely NOT what we’d discussed. So I walked over to ask him just what what the hell was going on? It turns out that just before the wedding had started the grooms mother handed the DJ, that DJ that I’d paid for, a CD that she’d made specially for her son’s wedding.😳🤯 Turns out that his family was EXTREMELY conservative Christians. The kind of conservative Christians that pride themselves on having more “You’re can’t do that!” opinions than a Bigfoot has hair. Even though I was irked beyond words, I managed to react in a positive manner. I walked calmly to my car and brought him one of my favorite CD’s for him to play. “A String Quartet Plays...Black Sabbath”. No lyrics. No voices. No singing. Just two violins, a viola and a cello. The DJ casually switched in my Sabbath in Strings and told me that one of the things he does, in order to make sure his customers are happy, is to walk around, table to table and ask if the music suits them? So he’d be sure to give me the down low on how my SIL’s new parents-in-law enjoyed the tunes. What he told me, to this day almost 20 years later, STILL makes me smile! The new in-laws absolutely LOVED the music!! It had an interesting beat and kind of reminded them of a night at the orchestra that they’d attended once! They really liked one in particular and just had to know the name of the song. I learned two things that day. #1- You really can’t judge a book by its religion. And #2- We both enjoy the song Sabbath Bloody Sabbath! 😳🤯😳🤣

Day 6 of lockdown in NZ. I’m not a huge Metallica fan but you’ve got to love this live version. If you like the rock band with orchestra thing, you should really check out Aerosmith at the MTV Awards in 1991 playing Dream On with a live orchestra. I put it to you both that it is one of the best live performances you will ever see. Here’s the link if you’re keen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jomQloyQZ7BpjM0 PS. Love the Judas Priest vest BTW.

@2:26 Its ok. He can be forgiven for not knowing/liking Lulu. It really is more a Lou Reed record, on which he asked Metallica to be his backup band. Yes, Metallica wrote all us the music, but the whole concept of the album and lyrical content was Reed. I have counted it amongst the Lou Reed catalog, rather than as a Metallica album, in my personal collection.

I wanted to go see the 20 anniversary S&M concert last year but all the fucking bots bought up all of the tickets and prices went through the roof. Didn’t get to go. Not without shelling out $1300 on one, ☝️! ticket, and it was in the back. The front rows probably went for $5k or more apiece. And they say scalping is illegal.

This song is definitely better than anything they recorded for Load and ReLoad, as well as St Anger. But there are tracks on Death Magnetic that are at least equal, if not better, than No Leaf Clover. DM is a very underrated Metallica album, for my money. It's the best work they released since the Black Album. There's also some good songs on Hardwired.
