It's "one" because the soldier is cut off from everyone and everything in the world. He is blind, deaf, mute, cannot taste, cannot feel, cannot move, he can only think. He is alone in the darkness, just thoughts, by himself, for all eternity. Nothing is left, only him, only his thoughts, there is only the one. Imagine floating through endless space, no sun no starts, no light, not even your own body, ultimate, maddening, isolation, That is being the "one", that's what this song is about.

Literally in almost 95% of the rap songs i know, the producer does 70% of the work and the rapper/artist only being 30%. The whole beat along with their melodies playing along? Done by the producer. Autotune to make rappers sound GOOD? Producer also. Some people might be angry at me and say that metal/rock/other legit music done by bands and rap are completely different. But if u actually compare the talent put into each kind of music, obviously legit bands win. Not only that, most old songs played by bands i know are more meaningful than most rap music i’ve listened to in terms of songwriting and lyrics. Nowadays i just kept hearing music about drugs, smoking, girls, and money (im not saying ALL of them are about those things). I was actually a hip hop head before, well that was until i listened to Metallica. 🤘

Alex, . I typically don't watch these Metallica reaction videos, namely because I've been a Metallica fan for almost thirty years now. I came to the party late, I was 18. "One" happens to be my favorite song of all-time, by anybody. Here's the thing, I had goosebumps for you. Knowing this song frontwards and backwards, I was anticipating how you were going to react with every upcoming section of the song. Especially the 4:00 mark, when the double bass starts kicking in and the transition to the "Darkness...Imprisoning Me" part starts. It's as iconic as any part to any heavy metal song you will ever hear. . Seeing your reaction lends me to something I say to a lot of people in my everyday life that have never really listened to heavy metal music, in particular, Metallica. Those people, like yourself, wasting their lives listening to hip-hop, R&B, rap or country. There's a much greater world waiting for your ears. . And it really is never too late. You can be saved! All you need is a simple baptism in Metallica. If by some chance you get to see them live, do it. They're all in their 50's now, but they still own the stage when they play. Your life will be changed forever, I promise. Don't get a seat to the show, get general admission tickets to the floor, where the fucking animals are at! The true Metallica fans! The stereotype is that you're risking your life or you'll get beat up, but it's not true. The Metallica family will take you in...and probably bounce you around a little. But they'll teach you how to headband and NOT use the word "dope" to describe the music. . The fact you admit you want to bash your head into a wall, will tell all Metallica fans that you're ready to be saved. ♫♪ So reach down grab my hand...Follow me through the land...Come home where you belong ♪♫ Those are lyrics from a song called "Jump In The Fire", from their first album, Kill'Em All. You'll really enjoy everything pre-1991, but Metallica is like pizza - even bad Metallica is better than almost everything else. . Welcome to our family! \m/ \m/

I was in high school when this came out...and it was THE biggest music event in a very long time. It was the first metal song to get that huge and that mainstream. You could hear it back to back on every music station for weeks. That's what makes this song so epic...its creatively untouchable. Its considered by many to be the number one metal song of all time...I'd have to agree.

Back in the day (early 90's) I remember hearing my brother learning this on guitar...by ear, he couldn't read tablature at that point in time. Once he learned the complete song, he'd hop to another. He's an amazing guitarist and taught my son who is now 21, both of em are shredders. Miss those days. ❤

He probably is still listening to more hip hop than metal. If I spent that much time listening to new metal (or at least new to me), I would already consider myself a metalhead (I used to listen to a lot of reggaeton. My mom introduced me to Pink Floyd, my dad to Eric Clapton and a school friend to Metallica. Never looked back)

the album is definitly underrated, i started with the old music and i love it as much as death magnetic, but there is only a few ppl that even know the death magnetic songs it seems, e.g. the day that never comes-as soon as i play that main riff everyone falls in love with it, its just a masterpiece like all the other clean riffs from metallica :)
