Yeah, stadiums there's just too much echo. Arenas are good. But I would LOVE to see them in a staged theater. I've seen a bunch of shows in the theater and the sound is just immaculate because of the acoustics a theater has.

They use amp emulators so there's no need for the sound guy to fight the amps being too loud. While they don't have the same heft as using amps, it's a billion times better listening experience especially in a small venues

@MashaT22 7 ай бұрын
@@SuperSizedScottdoesn’t have the same heft?! I think you need to get your ears checked. There really isn’t any audible difference. This was recorded with a cellphone. I guarantee it would sound plenty heavy as compared to the old school method if you were standing in the room. If it didn’t sound right, Metallica wouldn’t use the modeler - they’re very particular about getting their sound dialed in.

Way back when the Metallica Fan club was a paid for membership I ran an official chapter. I was able to attend two small club shows in SF. I can not convey in words what the feeling was seeing this band within the walls of venue with a 300 person capacity. It was truly a privilege and I’ll hold the experience in my memory as long as can. During this time I was an newbie audio engineer. I was able to chat with Bib Mick at one of the shows I attended. To get audio career advice from one of the greater FOH engineers was an absolute blessing.

I understand that the biggest bands on Earth, such as Metallica, need the whole "stadium arena live tour" thing, because of the huge number of people that want to see them perform, everywhere they go and for financial reasons. Still, I always believed that small, dark club stages are the birthground, the natural environment and the home of our kind and our music. That's where we flourish. No 1000 sq. mtrs stages, no stairs goin' up and down, no drumsets popping out of nowhere, no spectacular lightshow and explosions. Just a plain one - on - one game. Stripped down to basics. The band just 2 meters away, 1-2 headlights (more than enough), smoke, sweat running down to your balls, voices closed from growling and tons of cold beer for fuel. That's the real thing. And that's where every true, honest heavy and aggressive band really belongs. The big M are no exception. The tremendous "Sad but true" heaviness (God, what an eternal riff !!!), with this club stage vibe to it, gives me the goosebumps.

That's true, but not just for metal bands. I think it's true for all musicians. I was fortunate enough to see James Brown play in a casino when he was 72. There was no fluff, no frills, except for his outstanding showmanship and the musicians' outstanding musicianship. They killed it. I remember thinking "when you're really great, you don't need props and screens - your stage presence, talent, skill, and enthusiasm are enough."

Yep. Bands always sound way better in these smaller venues, too. So much tighter and controlled. It doesn’t make sense financially for Metallica to play these venues often because they probably make zero cash from it, but it still doesn’t change the fact that it would be an amazing experience for the fans. And I’m sure Metallica even probably enjoys the change up occasionally, playing smaller and more intimate venues!

@@wavewithus4081 no not really ... we moshed and stage dove .....you could smoke in clubs back then so pot was fun in the clubs...tech got better so sound production is better now ... Just remember it was a different time back then and music is different now ... Thrash was new and we didnt know how to react yet .. from fist pumping to headbanging to Slamdancing ... slam dancing was not violent like the mosh pits of today .. no black eyes from some meathead throwing fists ,, there was tons of love in the pit...

I love seeing bands in small clubs. Sounds so much better. I saw The Misfits at the Troubadour way back in the day. Way better than some large stadium. Danzig at some other place, I think Palladium or something, that was cool too.

I m a die hard Metallica fan, I m a Pantera fan as well and the bridge riff in Domination is heavier than Sad but true! In a different way because it's only a small part of the song... Sad but true is an Heavy masterpiece, sure! Anyway, my neck hurts after all these years of headbanging! 🤘🤘🤘

@sebastienfayemendie2514 I'm a Pantera fan as well, AND a guitar player....that's your own opinion, and many agree. For me though, it's just a breakdown. A small section of a whole song. It's not main riff, the CORE riff of the song. The 'Sad' riff is slow, hammering grind that holds the song together from front to back, driving the listener further into the madness of one's inner-self. THAT is heavy.

@@kcjacobs8399 I m a guitar player as well and I understand what you mean...that's why I ve mentioned that the Domination riff is only a small part of the song, the bridge...speaking about a real Heavy song, Sad but true is Heavy from the beginning and you're right...

Every real playing band does. Its how they all started, playing in small rehearsel rooms, just for the love of music. No bullshit, just play. Stadiums are just not suitable for good sound or tight band interaction or real connection with the audience. Playing like this is where it all started and what its all about !
