In 2018 I lost my dear brother unexpectedly and tragically. Before that tradegy we would both skip work anytime a new Metallica album would come out. From Load to Hardwired- we would both take off a day from our jobs to immerse ourselves in the latest Metallica release. My brother had no musical background, but he adored harmonized guitars from Metallica- think Orion or Misery. For whatever reason you guys would touch his soul with those harmonized guitars. He should say that it "punched him in his gut". He had an excellent ear for epic melodies. While listening today at the harmonized parts I was reminded that my brother would have loved this tune. I wept like a baby for the first time since he passed while listening to this track. I doubt this would ever reach the band, but today because of this song his son and I decided to finally spread his ashes. I have a deep connection with the Thin Lizzy "Black Rose" in regards to my now passed Mother. Now I can say I have a bit of closure that I desperately needed for my brother because if this song. I know he would say, "damn that sounds good" in regards to those harmonized guitars and double drum beats. I thank Metallica for giving me a little peace regarding my brother's passing. Thank you so much. He would have loved this song. His son and I will play it when we spread his ashes. I would give anything to listen to this with him. I have hope that will be reality one day. Still missing the 17 and 18 toms on Lars' drumkit, that made Metallica drum sound huge and fat.

What's weird to me about this song is that when I heard the beginning I was like "Ok, cool. I like it." Then the solo and harmony later hit, and it was "THIS is Metallica." This is the spirit of their song composition for me. It's one of the things I love about Spit out the Bone from the 4:00 minute mark. And then the ending harmony was fucking fantastic. I don't dislike the album by any means, but this is the only song I wish was longer. I feel like some of the songs have the Death Magnetic curse of going just a bit too long, and this one is cut short despite being brilliant.

They're 'something' you always can rely on. At least, they make me capable to escape from a wicked world that is sometimes to much for me, as the anxiety gets too strong to cope with. And then, just sink into the 'Metallica-cocoon', which feels like coming home but even better, is such a relief. It's better than any therapy for me so far to be honest.

@Nighthammer667 ай бұрын
Just love this song for guitar. Its the most fun song to play (harmonies yay) and also challenging ("the notes in between"). Metallica-Thrash at the beginning, dramatic unleash at the end. And I noticed that behind those harmonies at the end some fella (James?) just tremolo-picked his soul out behind those harmonies. I mean James would have to clone himself to do harmonies and tremolo-part at the same time live. But it would certainly be awesome.
