About Tom’s question at the end, Clark floated several times later on the show, he floated to the caves and woke up right there when Lex entered, once in the middle of the street and in the end dancing with Lois at the Homecoming episode when Bug Guy reappears.

He was referencing that specific convo never being brought up again which always bugged me too. I would've loved in Rosetta when Clark talked about sleep flying if Johnathan had said "At least last year you didn't leave your room when you were floating above your bed."
@redlox22 жыл бұрын
Yup the specific scene is never referenced. Clark has jokingly said he is earthbound (when he is no longer controlled by Jor-El) seemingly to show he considers flight not possibly (at least till he meets other Kyptonians who can fly freely like Zod and kara).
@nicklor242 жыл бұрын
@@ryandeffley7652 I took it as Jonathan & Martha were taken back and didn't know how to deal with the floating. So they didn't mention it. That was just my take on it.

@@nicklor24 - I think they could've done a one liner with any of the "anti gravity" moments just for continuity purposes. It's always nice when stuff links up. It could've been cool with Johnathan/Clark talking in Vortex about the tornado or the scene from Rosetta I mentioned, etc.. Or like in Insurgence when Clark does the super leap of faith from the DP and Johnathan says "This is a big step up from floating above your bed" etc..
@gregarious77312 жыл бұрын
If I remember right don't they also address it to some degree in season finale of Season 3? I feel like I remember Kara mentioning something about Jor-El teaching him to be able to fly instead of floating while sleeping.

Smallville had so many amazing quotes over the years. Two of my favorites come from Season 7. "In textbook talk, Isis is the goddess of love, and life, and healing. She even marched to the ends of the earth to help jump-start the man she loved. What the textbook left out is that Isis is also the Goddess of the underworld. She's responsible for bringing the Great God Ra (the man she loved) to his knees."- Chloe Sullivan-Smallville (Season 7, Episode 7: Wrath) "My father often reminded me that despite the power of the sun, it's always night on half the planet. For all the good you do, there will always be darkness. People who would kill you or abuse your power for their own gain."- Patricia Swann-Smallville (Season 7, Episode 14:Traveler) Those quotes made such an impact on my life that I still have them saved to this day.

On 2nd place, it's Clark himself, he was saved 54 times. 3rd place is for Chloe with 48 times, then Lana with 41 and finally Lex with 35. These are the top 5. :D As to how many people Clark saved, the cheap answer is that he saved the whole world like 5 times. :D I didn't write down what exactly happened, so I only remember the finale of the series, but I guess everybody knows about that.

32:50 - THANK YOU, Rosey, for defending Tom on that point! I cannot imagine how consuming the show was for both of you, but especially him as the main star. And in the first podcast episode you mentioned the physical suffering you had to go through as well. I was so sad that I never saw him go on to do more acting, but after that, I'm sure I would've wanted out, too!

He took a long break but seems to be enjoying acting more in recent years in small projects. He was a recurring guest star on Lucifer and in some movies etc.

Just finished re-watching Smallville (all 10 seasons today). It took me like 2 months to complete all 10 seasons. Talk about a trip down memory lane. My first time watching smallville was from age 13 to 21. 11 years later, I decided to re-watch it. Rewatching it gives me a whole new perspective and appreciation of the show. Smallville really set the standard. I enjoyed watching every episode. I can't say the same about any other superhero show that came after smallville. Personally, I enjoyed Smallville the most from season 4 onwards when Erica Durance (Lois Lane) came to the show. Erica/Lois was refreshing and she added humor to the show. Also the relationship between Lois and Clark has to be one of the best character developments I have seen on TV to date.

Omg, I feel the exact opposite.🤣 Never hated a Lois Lane before the smallville version. Couldn't stand this Lois or her relationship with clark. To the point I stopped watching the last seasons once Lex, Lana and pete left and she became a main character. Found her THAT irritating.

This episode’s ending is still one of my favorite’s from season 1 and the entire series. I went back and watched it and it’s is still a work of art. Clark returning Lana’s neckless to “Wherever You Will Go” by The Calling, leaving the neckless on the door handle and Clark walking down the path after with the shot tilting up to the night sky after Lana finds her neckless is peak. Great moments like that are what made the show great and are why Smallville is the only show I own on DVD.

I think Clark always could fly, because he was Kryptonian, but due to limitations he conscientiously put on himself, he stayed "grounded"; however, subconsciously when he was in the unconscious state of sleep, those limitations were suppressed and therefore he was able to float. I think what is interesting for the first four seasons, basically, Clark doesn't want these powers, he just wants to be normal. This is interesting take of Superman, because Wellings presents a Superman that wants to be "normal". He wants to marry Lana, run the farm, and just be a normal person like his Dad. These are his "dreams", not having this greater destiny imposed upon him by a "father" he never knew, and who very well could have abandoned him. However in contrast, in Season 4's opener, where he is just "Kal-El" and his Clark persona of his psyche is suppressed, he is able to fly and use all of his abilities. His leaping ability is also linked to this psychological limitation. The more he embraces his role as a hero, and suppresses his own wants, the better he gets at leaping. I believe this is why the first time we see him perform a super leap was when he went to Metropolis and jumped off the Daily Planet, because in part he was psychologically embracing this idea of needing to let go of Smallville and help the "world". Season 6 displayed one of his best leap/flies to date because being on Red K, and not repressing his feelings/attractions for Lois, allowed him to leap/fly with her across almost all of Metropolis. Then in season 8, when he becomes the Blur, we see Clark mastering the ability to jump vertically/leap buildings in a single bound. The specific scene was when Doomsday was attacking the night club. As stated throughout the show, Doomsday's presence and him embracing his role as the world's destroyer, would externally force Clark to embrace his roll as the world's savior, because he wouldn't be able to sit idely by (hence him vigorously that season chasing down after this "serial killer"). In season 9 when Jor-EL was walking him through flying simulations off the statue of liberty, Clark is not able to focus because he thinking about Lois and in his mind at that moment /season he put the limitation on himself I am either going to have a future with Lois as Clark Kent OR I am going to be this Savior called the Blur, in his head/heart at the time, he didn't see where the two would co-exist. But as is shown throughout, its actually romantically falling in love with Lois and trusting her and the confidence that she brings him in him accepting to himself, that the more he is around Lois, his Kryptonian powers strengthen. Her direct quote in season 10 is this, "Don't listen to it, Clark. Just trust yourself. You did it for me your secret. You trusted yourself, and you were right. The only way to see the truth is to close your eyes and ears and take a leap of faith. I believe in you." Her belief in him bolsters his confidence in himself, and he is able to fly with her (as paralleled in season 6). In the background the Daily Planet is focused upon because in key major scenes where Clark in this show has demonstrated flight, the Daily Planet has been present, which in this show is a image/theme that is representative of Clark's "future" where he has embraced his role on earth as a Hero. Before that shot ends, we see Clark look into Lois's eyes, it is acknowledgment that season 9's Clark didn't realize, that he can have BOTH, be the hero and have a life with Lois at his side. After this realization hits him, Clark is then seen, much like the final shot in Pattinson's, "Batman", with Clark "looking up" into the sky's of Metropolis. Then in the season finale, when fighting Darksied, it is Jor-El who says to him, "You have always had the power within you. Seize your destiny".

Something I wanted to point out is Tom's question at the end of the podcast, my siblings and I are big Smallville fans and he recalled later in the show the other times that Clark floated/flew; later on in the show when Jensen Ackle's character comes in (SE4); Clark becomes possessed by his Kryptonian persona and flies in the show. I think it's the first episode. Anyway, when Ma Kent gets Clark back, Pa Kent asks later in that episode, concerned, "Your mother tells me you can fly?" and Clark responds with "Kal-El can fly, Clark Kent is still earthbound". I think they get a little relieved at that but I believe Pa Kent mentions that its an ability he can probably do too with practice like his other abilities, but Clark states it's harder for some reason. I think in the show he mentions that he actually has a fear of heights. So, Clark had psychological barriers that prevented him from flying on his own. I hope this helps Tom out.

One of the better commentaries I've heard so far on a podcast rewatch show. I was worried that Tom would be more shy about the behind the scenes stories but it turns out his detailed expositions, insights and description of production behind the scenes and acting were completely exciting and just fun to hear. The thing that makes Superman "Super" is his character! Unwavering character! He was created to give hope to Americans during the war. To be an example of what an American is suppose to look like in the face of danger, hardship, etc.! All through Smallville, the times I feel most proud of Clark is when he stands up against his friends family to do the right thing...... which inspires them to do the right thing! *I will post this part only to leave something "short and sweet" as they say and the more IN ACTUAL REALITY part, I will put in a different comment (more book but whatever)* :)

It's a shame you guys never touched on the ending of the episode. It's one of the most romantic endings in television or Cinema history in my opinion. Instead of outing out Whitney and returning the necklace to Lana in order to win her heart; Clark takes the road less travelled. He takes the road of the hero and returns her property anonymously. This seemingly, simple act of selflessness does more to put Clark on the path of becoming Superman then battling the main freak of the week. This is why Metamorphosis is one of my favorite episodes in the entire run of the series. It shows the difference between being a hero and being the average Joe. The hero will make the choice that no one else can or will.

Great comment!🙂i totally agree! It really showed raw " stripped of powers" Clark. He can do whatever he wants, and still choose to be selfless. He actually had every right to be upset with Whitney, and he decided to step aside and let Whitney to shine. That' s what i like, and i'm sure many fans like about Clark. That's so rare in real life ( almost non existent) and actually reminds us how flawed we are, sadly.
