I'd say the Z-95 was better than the ARC-170 in certain ways, but worse in others. The Z-95 only required a single pilot to operate as opposed to the ARC-170 needing 3 plus an astromech, but the ARC-170 could do a lot more damage than a Z-95

different roles and all Z-95s were meant to be a dedicated dog fighting ship where as ARCs were meant more for a dual role i'd still say in a fight i would prefer to have the Z95s in a combat sense because the are smaller then the ARC and in regards to them going down, its better to lose 1 pilot then 3 but thats just me

You are comparing apples and oranges.. the Z-95 is a dogfight starfighter, the ARC-170 is a primarily reconisance vehicle that was misused in the defense of the home world.

I keep saying this, one of the biggest bags the empire dropped was adopting the TIE instead of the Z-95. The Z-95 would be just as cheap in a bulk order, can be modified to fit a lot of mission profiles. It also has a much higher survivability for pilots, meaning less time spent training newer ones, and having a more experienced piloting core, while still having a surplus of parts during the empire's infancy.

I feel the arc 170 could have been a single seater with more automation the rear gunner could be the easiest a droid brain could take its place and for the middle seat task should be able to be done by the front pilot with more automation

We've seen plenty of examples of astromechs piloting ships competently by themselves, so a starfighter with 3 organics AND an astromech just doesn't make sense at all to me. It just makes the ship a more expensive loss when destroyed without much extra benefit.

The Z-95 Headhunter is one of my favorite Clone Wars era Republic starfighters. It's probably the most versatile fighter the Republic had. It's not my favorite Republic starfighter, that being the ARC-170, but it's still a really cool starfighter that I like a lot.
