I always wondered about how repulsorlift vehicles and other things such Cloud City itself never need to come to rest on the ground ever. You would think that when Luke Skywalker wasn't driving his landspeeder around Tatooine it would sit on the ground. And what if there's ever a blackout on Cloud city? Would it ever fall into Bespin?
@dragonweyr446 жыл бұрын
Maybe but Murphy's law says that whatever can go wrong, WILL go wrong so there would have to be some kind instance that it would fail. Every other film, tv show or other that features flying/floating city sized objects have had them fail at one point or other. The SHIELD helicarrier was almost destroyed in the first Avengers movie and three of them were destroyed in Captian America: The Winter Soldier. In the movie Sky High (a 2005 Disney movie), a floating high school fell from the sky when its power supply was sabotaged. It Has to happen sometimes
@owynpeschke37976 жыл бұрын
dragonweyr44 1st off you just need to feed the lifts constant power and cloud city can do that
@dragonweyr446 жыл бұрын
BUT the potential for power loss, whether partial or total is highly probable. In such a case, the potential for Cloud City to fall out the sky is still there. I'm pretty sure that when the world devastators are destroyed, they don't stay in the air. So by accident, sabotage or attack it MUST fail sooner or later
@zealot7776 жыл бұрын
I think they have some type of non powered magnetic back-up. That would be for most landspeeders and swoop bikes. Kinda like a + magnet side repels another + side.

In one of the many expanded novels, Slave 1 was in self-orbit around Tattooine while Boba lay helpless in the Sarlaac. When 2 farmers found him,he was unrecognizable, and near death.After nursing him back to health,they found the iconic helmet and knew instantly who they'd saved,and feared for their lives. Boba,for the first time ever,showed gratitude and mercy,and even after exposing his identity,he let them live. Then he got the communication antenna on his helmet working,and signaled for Slave 1 to enter the atmosphere and pick him up on the surface of Tattooine. Why can't we get Star Wars movies like this!!!?

As far as internal configuration goes, I think I prefer the layout from the original ICS book, which makes it look like the ship's gravity would always be in the same direction as the thrust vector. A Slave 1, made of tin and plastic (mostly tin, just the canopy and the swiveling wings were made of plastic), was one of the first toys I remember getting, back when I was a toddler in the 80s. I was still sleeping in a crib at the time and had no idea what that thing was or what Star Wars was, hehe. I didn't even understand what was the front and what was the back. I saw the little man seemingly laying on his back in the cockpit, but wasn't sure whether that meant the ship would fly in the direction he was looking. Only when I watched "The Empire Strikes Back" for the first time, years later, I learned that it was a Star Wars space ship and how it was supposed to be flying.

@@nolankirchen3395 The cockpit deck platform as far as we know from the movies and latest Episode of the Mandalorian is stetic and always in the vertical flight mode. Only the lower deck for passengers rotates with the wings/angle of the Slave 1 when going into flight position. There is a yellow ladder integrated across the entire ship, which can be seen as the lower compartment rotated. Because in space there's no up and down, you have gravity generators, so no matter in what angle you are or technically over head it doesn't matter to you.

I'd like to mention that the internal pics of Slave 1 under Jango is wayyy different than under Boba. You could reason that Boba rebuilt or gutted the interior, which is supported in the expanded universe, buuuuut the Shadows of the Empire graphic novel depiction closely resembles the Jango configuration. Furthermore, in the books a moderately sized cargo hold big enough to hold a group of bounty hunters including a massive cyborg is mentioned that could not feasibly exist on either build. Tl;dr, Slave 1's interior tends to be whatever the narrative demands of it.

I would really enjoy watching a breakdown of the rivalry between Han and Boba. In one book (or comic) Han takes out the Slave1 in some sort of ion cloud(?). To my umderstanding, that rivalry goes way back and We never find out how it ends.

I never realized how much of an absolute unit this ship is... Pretty sure Fett could go toe to toe with an Imperial Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser no problem
