I always figured the forbidden fruit was a fig, especially since they immediately cover themselves with fig leaves. Secondly figs become fermented on the branch. Finally, they have discovered Chalcolithic fig orchards in the Levant so it may be one of the earliest crops cultivated by mankind. Just my opinion.... Also it is an interesting irony that Eve found the fruit to be desired to make her wise or "sakal" in Hebrew. This is the same word for prudent. It's related to the subtility of the serpent which can be translated either as cunning or prudent. So I think there is a typical ironic plot twist that Eve wanted to become prudent but was actually quite gullible to be tricked by the craftiness of the serpent which is not at all prudent. There is also the hint that the fruit itself was not necessarily evil of itself. The idea of knowing good from evil is also called discernment which is a gift from the Holy Spirit and sakal is something that is given to the student of the law in Psalms and Proverbs. I think the real focus is that the fruit was probably meant to be given to them later after maturity and learning at the feet of God, but they took a short cut and "trespassed" by doing what "seemed right in their own eyes" instead of waiting for God's leading.

Discernment more so means being able to gain wisdom from a situation where everything seems "noisy" and you are able to discern what to do and what would be "wise", "good" or "correct" to do. It's connected to wisdom and being wise. It doesn't have to do with what you said. The Spirit is also a gift of accepting Christ. Everything else about being given to them later and maturity is your own jargon. I consider your comment mainly poison to believers so they best be weary of everything you say as it's misleading.

I actually find it amazing you superimposed something on me (which is a lie) saying I said it's something from birth and made an argument about it towards me. I don't appreciate a STRAWMAN argument. Do not twist my words or my intentions so you can make a point which we can all agree on, what have you discerned of my words and what can others now? Yet people still liked your comment? How easily they are manipulated. I was discussing what discerning is. You cannot argue that it is looking at a situation and discerning what is true and makes sense from what isn't. The bible even supports with a few verses asking for the ability to do as such. I was meaning the other things they were talking about. Like how to receive The Holy Spirit. You receive the holy spirit as a gift when you accept Christ, have you read the bible? Are you guys in a cult or something? Also we have many blessings and gifts from God. Some we are even born with by the way and this is biblically supported too, so I would disagree with you there as there is inherent blessing and curses generationally. However discernment definitely is a gift to be allowed to see and gain wisdom or the wisest path forward, however you must be a sturdy branch for the fruit that comes from the vine, that vine which is God (John 15:5) However the fruits of the Spirit are true as well and you do gain those later when you accept Christ. Not by "something that is given to the student of the law in Psalms and Proverbs." It's mentioned in (Acts 2:38), if that means anything to you. You know IF you're a Christian. Rather than creating a weak fake argument of me (strawmaning) with me, go argue with them if you're a Christian. I can't believe you've all been duped. I'm certain of the 37 likes some were Christians. You all should pray for discernment. Perhaps you don't have it. Ciao.

Would love to see an explanation of the “God” Yahweh of the Old Testament and why he did the unspeakable things he did. Murdered MILLIONS of children, allowed the rape of women where the rapist got to marry the victim, demanded animal and HUMAN sacrifices, promotes incest, toys with his most loyal followers like Abraham who was gonna kill his son and poor Job because of a bet with “Satan”. These events I’ve mentioned are all in the Bible but nobody brings them up or even knows about them. Yahweh was the Israelites god who was the storm and warrior god…he was one of many gods that people worshipped but he IS NOT THE CREATOR GOD. Plus the 14 books that were taken out of the Bible also would be a good topic. The Bible is supposedly the word of God(even though we don’t even know which MEN wrote it lol) but when them 14 books were taken out in the 1300’s I think, now they’re not the word of God? How does that make any sense? Man is basically manipulating the Bible at that point and creating the narrative. Who knows what else was edited over the years so anyone who believes the Bible is the word of God literally can’t think for themselves cause with just a little bit of research,it’s pretty clear to see that it’s all BS

Adam had daughters. They were not mentioned with Cain and Abel. Adam was also the first man, not the ONLY man. The daughters of Adam were given to the other men, hence why Eve is the "Mother of living" in the literal sense. It would account for human dna being so different across continents that the "out of africa" theory has come increasingly ever more under attack and theories regarding multiple origins are gaining popularity. It's not complicated to think that Orange is just anything orange, Greens are anything green, and Apple is fruit of a fruit tree, the same as Walnut is the fruit of a walnut tree. Complications come from BACK-rationalizing concepts you don't HAVE. Have you ever seen a walnut desk? You might, but you have never invented a word for it, because English is like Chinese but WITHOUT even such a basic thing as separate symbols for the tree and the nut. And BARELY even separate context, because illiteracy creeps so far now you REALLY can't trust an American to know if a desk is made out of wood or nut.

It's interesting that faith is the word choice. I see a lot about what religious people believe but I don't see a lot of why they believe. I just see assertions about how the world works but not really a reason why they think that. As someone who's never raised as a part of any kind of organized religion, to me it seems strange that people seem to arbitrarily value the word of one text over the other. That word faith seems to be the key to that. But what is faith, really? A belief in something, despite no reason to believe it? It simply doesn't compute to me. So I guess my real question to you is, what is it that gives you such conviction in your beliefs? Why do you believe that the Bible in particular is the correct text?

But KZbin seems to have decided my carefully-thought-out comment must be expunged. Here is my second attempt to freely share my thoughts: #1: You ask the original commenter: "Why do you believe that the Bible in particular is the correct text?" She never made this claim. Nor did she make the claim that there IS only one "correct text", as your use of "the" (as in "the correct text") implies. Perhaps she DOES belief those things, but there is no basis for assuming that from what she wrote. #2: Your definition of "faith" ("A belief in something, despite no reason to believe it") is not the only, nor even the most common definition of that word in use. And the only explicit statements about personal faith made by the original commenter are "I've been a believer all my life" and "My faith has been strengthened". Neither statement precludes "reason" as a basis for faith/belief. In fact, she implied that faith can be of variable "strength" and claimed that her faith HAS been strengthened by something (apparently in-depth exegetical study). This necessitates SOME "reason" as a basis, whether anyone else agrees with that/those reasons or not. So, #3: Your baseless assumptions about the original commenter's beliefs could be construed as something other than (pardon the pun) a "good-faith" basis for discussion. Let's hope HER faith compels her to act with Christian charity and answer you with something more palatable than my scathing pedantry 😉

He made clear he is giving you a secular reading... linguistically... not an authentic Scriptural Jesus the Christ commanded John 3:1-21 qualified doctrinal reading. If you think going to going to a non-Ferrari dealership to get your Ferrari fixed by some mechanics who work on all cars, not solely Ferrari's is a good idea, then you should go read Proverbs 26:7-9, there are many more parallel verses, like Matthew 7:21-23.

Okay - so, just fulfil, John 14:12, first, thanks? Since - was Augustine of Hippo, Calvin, Pope Paul III, Luther - or Torquemada... Ever required, to do so? And, do you think, they should - before, they got, to make policy, interpretation, and contribute, to law? Or even translation. So it can be hard to know, who the real 'Ferrari dealership' is here. What with the cars, often being behind drapes, etc, or blankets. Sometimes the very, very vague outline, can be seen, or some vague engine hum heard... but sometimes, the exposed content... is a Ford Pinto, or a Lada, rather. Or has an exhaust emptying into the rear seats. If you see, my analogy, here?@@RemnantDiscipleLazzaro-Rev1217

Amazing linguistic analysis of the source material, while still being respectful towards the religious aspects - I really enjoy this series! A very interesting theory about the "rib" I once read about, was that it was in fact the "os priapi" taken out to form eve, which almost all other primates stil have, but man doesn't, but we do have the perineal raphe which resembles the scar of it's removal. This story made it even into the wikipedia page of the "os priapi" with a source attached to it ... I'm an atheist with a good understanding of all the Abrahamic religions and in my opinion, the ONLY Abrahamic faith that isn't deserving of scorn is Judaism. It's the only narrative that makes sense, where the other two try adding things to the narrative and end up making a mess of it. For example, in both Christianity and Islam, Satan is the Enemy, the adversary of God who led a rebellion against him, etc... However, the people who invented this story and added it to the bible either forgot, or failed to notice that in the Old Testament, God never gave free will to the Angels. In fact, it specifically says that Free Will was a gift that was ONLY given to humans. This means that the whole "Devil is evil" aspect of Christianity and Islam doesn't make ANY sense! Of course, it's far more compelling, makes for a more romantic story if you tell people "God needs YOU in the fight against evil!" So this lie helped the Christians and Muslims to gain many of their converts, largely because most people similarly overlooked/ never knew that free will was a gift that was ONLY given to humans. This isn't the only such mistake, either. The more you study this stuff, the more obvious it becomes that Christianity was manufactured by men and that there's nothing divine about it. As another example, Jesus fails to fulfil the duties of the Messiah, meaning that the Jews are 100% correct when they say that Jesus is not the messiah. He failed to do ALL of the things that the Messiah was supposed to do during his life. This ALSO means that Jesus is a false prophet. Biblically, a false prophet is anyone who draws worship away from God and since Christians worship Jesus as God, this means Jesus is 100% a False Prophet! If I were you, I would walk with my head held high when passing Christians and/ or Muslims, content in the knowledge that yours is the only religion that ISN'T filled with embarrassing plot-holes and outright mistakes.

He is brilliant in the area of the Scriptures if you are not also trained in Bible Hebrew and Greek nor a long time Bible Textuary especially from the paramount John 3:1-21 qualified position as some of us are. I'm Italian like him but first generation in Canada. Trained in various strengths formally and heuristically in Bible Hebrew, Greek, Standard Italian _[since i was brought up on dialect Italian not standard],_ Canadian French, Latin, and informally + heuristically self-taught in some Spanish, Portuguese, touch of German. No language ever translates to another with 100% perfection, it's just the way translation is, hence the idiom in English "lost in translation." Remember also he is giving you as he stated: a secular reading... linguistically, not an genuine Scriptural God/Jesus the Christ commanded John 3:1-21 qualified doctrinal reading. I'm an Atheist, but I really enjoy studying religion. These videos you have been posting lately about Biblical materials have been awesome. I always find it interesting to learn how things can be misconstrued/lost in translation when it comes to texts like the Bible. I know a little bit of Korean and just from that, I have learned a great deal about how difficult it can be to translate things. This is especially true depending on how different the original language is from whatever it is being translated into. Some words have no real equivalent, so it is really up to the interpreter to determine which words best suit the translation and in some cases, it can be very different from how other people might understand the text when reading it. On top of that, the interpreter has the power to omit things which can alter how the text is understood as well. Depending on what is being said, despite me being Atheist, if the Christian is bringing up a valid point, I'm going to side with their valid point, even if there are a lot of other things I disagree about. The Bible was written by man and translated through various other languages before English. Regardless if someone views it as the word of God or not, chances are a lot of the awkward passages that some people try to point out in an attempt to invalidate the entire book, are more likely to be translation issues more than anything else. A big one is the fuss over unicorns, but if you look into it, odds are the Bible is actually talking about the one horned rhino, although it cannot be confirmed. Some Atheists will try to say the whole book is made up because it has unicorns in it. That's not really a good argument considering the potential for translation issues and the fact that the King James Edition is the only one that mentions unicorns.

Once you understand how scripture is laid out, how the words can have double, triple and even quadruple meanings in different texts/languages, but all point to exactly what it’s describing, you realize there’s no way a man could have come up with the writings without the inspiration of an ALMIGHTY creator. This is why the Bible is TRUTH. The Lord will unravel His word as you study His word, to where it makes sense to you. Understanding Language is so incredibly important
@Palmieres11 ай бұрын
I think you've just disproven your assertion that God inspired the writers of the Bible, and _not_ confirmed it as you believe. If the Bible isn't clear enough unless you have a deep understanding of linguistics and are in fact a proper scholar, then scripture is bound to be infinitely more often interpreted by laymen, and because of it, the real message is lost the overwhelming majority of time by the overwhelming majority of people. If you need to trust the scholars for a true meaning you risk being deceived, which is what has already happened several times in history as the message is used and distorted to serve certain people and their interests. Often people who say they've studied and learned the true meaning are lying and use the gullibility of the common people to trick and manipulate them (see any crazy preacher out there spewing hatred and pretending to speak in tongues as a vessel for God). The Bible, as it is, is a Tower of Babel. It divides believers more than anything else, exactly because of poor or deliberately distorted interpretation. I find it incredibly hard to understand how believers, even those who seem quite reasonable, blindly and absolutely accept that their personal and individual interpretation of God and His intentions as the correct one, never casting any doubt on their humanity and the pitfalls of believer hubris. You _must_ question it, the text itself often dares you to do it, in fact. So, considering all this, either the text was in fact _not_ inspired by God and thus is full of potential incongruities and mistakes, or God inspired it and purposely made it confusing (as He knew would happen, given His nature), giving rise to dispute, anger, hatred and violence towards others who don't accept your interpretation - or, those who dare to doubt. Neither of these possibilities is reassuring, tbh.

Metatron you have just connected some theories that i have been struggling with. Thank you so much for posting🙏. God bless!. There is a fear of our faith being some how subverted by deeper study with the word of God. A fear we will find "discrepancies". On the contrary, if you are digging a sight and find some pots of evidence of civilization and stop there and claim the complete achievement of said civilization is just from the single pot you found . What injustice you have done to yourself and that civilization. Keep up the hunger and seeking the truth Metatron. ❤❤❤️

As a native Hebrew speaker I have to tell you you are spot-on! A little note - nowadays the word "tsela" צלע does in fact also mean "rib", probably because of how the bible was translated, but it does also mean "side/edge", but in the bible it said ויקח אחת מצלעותיו meaning God "took one of his edges" which implies that he had more than one, which is probably why many went with "rib" which is one of the edges of the cage that protects our internal organs... But I suppose it could really be any edge... Also considering that the words for "bone" is עצם and "edge/rib" is צלע so it is very similar... These videos are just so exiting and interesting! Thank you so much!

I would like to play a bit of a devil's advocate here with the whole bone part. Firstly I do think that it's quite an interesting way of describing the whole procedure and linking it to modern medicine. I could honestly understand the situation with the iliac crest more than the rib if it were taken into a modern medical setting. Here is the issue I am faced with and might need a bit of more information on: Yes, the iliac crest is very much a place where bone marrow and stem cell biopsies are taken from, which makes sense in the context of analysis (after all you don't need an entire bone to analyse its marrow). Now if we assume that God is literally taking a curved object, that would mean that this isn't a biopsy but literally a removal or a donation from Adam to Eve. With the iliac crest it would seem like a massive hassle to just remove a part of the damn thing or even the whole structure, given the fact that A): it would be extremely inhibiting towards Adam, as a lot of muscular structures, arteries and nerves run through it and B) it's a massive bone attached by hard ligaments (making it very difficult to remove unless you have some kind of hacksaw). Comparing it to a rib, which is very much rich in bone marrow and stem cells as well (the only reason why biopsies aren't done here is because it's too small, and there is risk of causing a pneumothorax). If it were considered literally taking a piece off of Adam to give to Eve, this body part would seem like the most straightforward and efficient way for cutting and leaving the least amount of scarring for Adam. All you would need to do is cut once and you have the rib. At least if I were to do this procedure, I would 100% prefer to cut off a rib than a piece of iliac crest (for context I am a medical resident). Of course if there is no mention about literally taking out a curved object then the iliac crest is the more straightforward answer for a biopsy and stem cell growth. But I would like your opinion on this, are we considering this to be an organ donor, or a biopsy?

Maybe it's a Just So story for why women have hips while men's are apparently missing.

Great video! Is there any possible etymological link between the word “ra” used to describe the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil” and the Egyptian sun god Ra? Can you make a video specifically about the possible origin of Egyptian deities based on historical texts?

Amazing, thank you for this. My favorite part is about the Mark of Cain and others already on Earth. I felt this was clear in Genesis when I read it a while ago, but so clear and early as due to Cain, but the rest of the story actually with lineage etc. Especially "and they may with the daughters of man" if I'm remembering that right ...I wish you could do something about that. Is that about Nephalim? I'll have to check your channel for that. I'm a follower of Yeshuoa and you've given much food for thought (uh oh 😜 punny...) The thing about the iliac crest is neat too. I'm studying Hebrew and my husband studies Greek (primarily for our faith), I didn't realize that was a main part of your analysis but it's wonderful. 😊

How can he be alone if you believe there was multiple Adams?

I just love that I already knew most you talked about even tho I'm not really a practicing Christian. Just showed my rural Christian upbringing was full of the more lesser known portions about the Bible both in church and religion classes.

It's videos like this that make me want to continue with my own reading of the Bible (King James, for its particular influence on literature). The lecture videos of Northrup Frye are definitely good, if a bit dry, but this kind of video meets me somewhere in the middle, between face value reading and highly academic analysis and interpretation. Thanks as always, Metatron.

I love this channel. Especially as a history nerd myself. He covers all sorts of interesting topics. Only bad thing about it is that it often keeps me from getting things done ugh
