Hunters is the one Metroid game I think still needs a remake, such good concepts and features limited to and by the DS that'd be amazing to see expanded upon on something like the Switch
@TheObsessiveGamer2 жыл бұрын
Honestly deserves a remake more than the whole trilogy imo. If using the MP4 engines, it could be quite something especially with that multiplayer
@zigazav12 жыл бұрын
Although this doesn't relate to cut content in this game, Metroid Prime Hunter's multiplayer, after beating the game, a map modeled after the room of the final boss of Prime Hunters, was unlock. And the only pickup-able weapon in that map, is the weapon you are given to fight the final boss. Thing is, with how much your max Energy (health) is reduced in multiplayer (being a total of 200 Energy if I remember right) and the fact this special weapon that only appears on that map is so strong, if you shoot it against a wall at pointblank range, you kill yourself instantly, due to the blast radius upon impact of the shot hitting something
@TheObsessiveGamer2 жыл бұрын
Heck I don't think I even tried that map. I really should gather friends to play this.
@novustalks7525 Жыл бұрын
Yep I always use that map but avoid the omega cannon for that reason
@MrMegaMetroid Жыл бұрын
It wouldn't just kill you at point blank, it insta killed every single enemy that even remotely was in its line of sight. I never had online play, but i played against bots back in the days and my strat was to stand in the middle all the way on the bottom of the map and fireing straight up against the underside of the "hand" platform. This 6 out of 10 times killed all enemies on the map instantly. You just had to dip out of the way fast otherwise you'd kill yourself too. I dont know if this gun had damage drop off at range, but if it did, the map it was featured in was jot big enough to trigger it

What a great time in handheld gaming. I remember crowding around my neighbor when he was the only one with a ds I'm town and a demo of hunters. It was and still kind of is one of the craziest handheld games I've ever seen. Unmatched. Love the multi-player. Wish they expanded on that for consoles

If you enjoy this video please give it a thumbs up! assists up a lot with the algorithm! Update Notes: -The enemy seen in 5:15 should be clarified as a variant of the existing enemy called the "Lesser Ithrak" and "Great lthrak". It's of the same species, thus would be a third variant, but it has a completely different attack pattern, animations, and colouring at that.

What an awesome and nostalgic trip down memory lane this video was. Had no idea what this beta and cut content was or looked like for one of my most favorites games of all time. I poured so many hours into the First Hunt tech demo alone. Figured out how to glitch out of all the maps. As for the full release, I know I clocked in nearly a thousand hours of playtime on my first cartridge. Beat the story mode multiple times. Achieved (and maintained) max 5 star rank in online multiplayer which was extremely unforgiving and competitive since your star rank would actually lower if you lost or intentionally disconnected from online matches. What was so groundbreaking and still impressive to me at the time for this game was that it essentially played like Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena except on a a Nintendo handheld and the touchscreen aiming controls (while yes often times cramp-inducing) really did feel more akin to aiming with a mouse than an analog stick once you got used to aiming with a stylus. Throw in all the Hunters unique abilities, sandbox of weapon types, a HUGE selection of maps, and really cool online features like the text AND VOICE chat, plus the "Rivals" system that let you add players you randomly encountered online and this became my perfect go-to Nintendo DS game during my young teenage years. I've never been more competitive with any shooter than I have with Metroid Prime Hunters. At one point I even created and ran my own online clan for this game comprised of neighborhood friends, people from Nintendo Wifi game message boards, and people I met online as "rivals" that would eventually become friends because we figured out how to write our Friend Codes in our names to add each other so we could chat online in lobbies 😂. Some of these people I originally met online in Metroid Prime Hunters I still keep in contact with today! Anyway, this was a very important game to me as a kid and it holds a lot of significance for me. It's an extremely underrated Metroid title too that I don't think gets enough credit or recognition for what it achieved because it was so multiplayer-focused as opposed to all the other more single player centric Metroid titles

Makes one wonder why they didn´t make a Metroid Prime Hunters 3D for the 3DS using the original high fidelity models.
@sgtpieman2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I remember that awkward control scheme. The original DS had a little nub that could strap to your thumb and for this game it was pretty much essential. It was like using a thumbstick with it and therefore a lot more comfortable. I tried playing with the stylus once and it was so bad I can't blame anyone for deducting points if that was the only way to play. Considering later models of DS didn't include the strap, that ended up being the case after all! Those poor people!
@TheObsessiveGamer2 жыл бұрын
I didn't personally use the nub, but rather the stylus for aiming. I felt it worked pretty fine that way, though I know for many holding the DS that way with one hand was not ideal. I likely fall into the minority who was okay with the controls I guess lol
@addisonharris40462 жыл бұрын
Lol I was just going to comment this exact same thing!!! I literally went on a hunt to find one of those nubs a couple years ago when I was getting back into the game, and they are so ridiculously hard to find! I ended up actually buying an entire fat DS because it was the only way I could get that nub! Even finding a DS with a nub strap in good condition is hard! But definitely worth it if you're a super fan of Metroid Prime Hunters!

I wouldn't say the online went completely smoothly. Players would constantly exploit glitches; including hiding behind walls (meaning that Trace head-sniping was becoming notorious).
@TheObsessiveGamer2 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree but since these reviews were from when the game just came out, it likely was before exploits were discovered. Also I think it was more referring to the connection?
@KopperNeoman Жыл бұрын
Some glitches were good, like Shadowfreeze - it made Noxus viable. Others were annoying. All were unfair, ironically only BECAUSE of attempts to patch them. Later versions put you at a disadvantage.
@tidepoolclipper86572 жыл бұрын
I remember hearing how the hunters were supposed to navigate rooms and possibly even move across the planets and spaceship in real time. I can guess why this went unused. Either too much for the DS to properly register or they realized that this could cause the player just to let the other hunters do stuff in the rooms for them.
@KopperNeoman Жыл бұрын

Thank you for making a video about this. Though I do know about the cut content, you added some insightful context and additions I didn't know. MPH is arguably my favorite metroid game. The levels have the coolest looks, the multiple hunters idea was executed well, and the new weapons were fun. I wish the game could have been recreated and expanded since I always wish the levels were larger, the story more layered, and more bosses lol.
@fredjones21704 ай бұрын
The Half-Life-looking creature actually DID make it into the final game as the Greater and Lesser Ithrak. Funnily enough, its weak point is actually its tail! Also, some Guardians do technically still have different weapons; they just don’t get matching palette-swaps.
@meta94922 жыл бұрын
Great and interesting video, but I was going to say that actually the guardians do use other weapons, they just dont have a texture change. Usually for the second octolith missing in each area they use the weapon you found (except for shock coil) and are immune to said weapon. Also im pretty sure hunters single player was lacking because the devs ran out of budget getting those pre rendered cutscenes made.
