I've said this so many times, but Quintana pitched much better during the season than most fans realize. He had ONE terrible outing in May that crushed his ERA. Then he had ONE terrible outing in August that turned back his progress on lowering his ERA. In those two starts, he gave up 15 runs in about 7 innings. In his other 30 or so starts on the season and post-season, he's pitched to an ERA right around 3.00. He's mostly been solid to good to great.
@IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar3 ай бұрын
But his game is predicated on getting hitters to chase, which the Dodgers don’t do much, and he’s not a high strikeout guy. Not saying he won’t be successful, but it’s more complicated than simply pointing to a pitcher’s recent ERA and making predictions off of that.

Oh, one thing about the Dodgers only having one lefty in the bullpen: they added Brent Honeywell, Jr. to the roster, who is right-handed, but famously throws a screwball. So there’s that. He’s not a big strikeout guy, though, so they will miss Vesia and his 9000 inches of induced vertical break (seriously, that dude’s four-seamer is insane).
@IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar3 ай бұрын
[EDIT: Despite my worries, I should add that this team gives me 2019 Nats energy. So I definitely have hope-although I hope they can avoid 2020 Nats energy next year. 😆] I’m way less confident about this series than basically everyone here. I still think the rotation lacks the swing-and-miss stuff that you’d want against a team like the Dodgers. Also, the Dodgers don’t chase, and this bullpen issues WAAAAY too many walks. No team has ever won the World Series with a walk rate (relative to league average) as high as the Mets’. It’s their Achilles heel, and I’m worried it’ll be their fatal flaw. Plus, I like to keep my expectations low. So I’m expecting Dodgers in 6, which gives me a chance to be continue being pleasantly surprised, and avoid being disappointed. I didn’t expect the Mets to be playing competitive games in the second half, much less get to the NLCS. LGM!

The Padres lost because their taunting fueled the Dodgers. The organization knows they owe it to the fans. The Padres can go after the Dodgers players, but taunting the fans was not a good idea. The Padres fanbase has never won anything so they’re ok condoning arrogance and unprofessionalism as long as their team wins, but that organization is immature from top to bottom because they want a rivalry with the Dodgers to sell tickets. I think a long series favors the Mets. The Dodgers' starting rotation is weak, consisting really of only Buehler and Yamamoto. The Dodgers overcame that weakness by pitching a bullpen game in Game 4 and Yamamoto stepping it up in Game 5. But this strategy I don't think will work over a 7-game series. Multiple bullpen games will eventually burn out the bullpen. The longer the series goes on, the more the bullpen will be taxed and eventually fail. A short series favors the Dodgers. But if the series goes long then the advantage goes to the Mets.
