hearing about the mass layoffs in multiple industries is pretty discouraging. thousands of workers laid off with more skill and experience than me are all looking for work and it makes me, as a recent graduate feel like i don't have a chance

its important to remember everything comes in phases / waves, and while it looks like the end, there will always be new opportunities coming up even if they're not 100% related to what you originally wanted to do! skills you learn at least will be transferrable to making your own thing / indie project. don't lose hope!

If you get to, play the games Idol Manager and Long Live the Queen The first one will give you an idea of how businesses would handle themselves in an entertainment industry (though more into music) Latter one has a game mechanic where you balance your emotional ups and downs (your leans impact what you do sometimes) and it can grant you a new perspective on management

I worked in the animation industry in Los Angeles for 5+ years, up until last year. Work just wasn't consistent enough and I couldn't afford to live in LA anymore. I regret not focusing my efforts more into building my social medias and diversifying income sooner.

BTW, I like the hair highlights. That's kinda cool to have the lighter color under the darker. 😉

getting commissions is so damn hard these days. ;;w;; you really need a lot of followers to get clients. Even tho my page is full of drawings and portfolio its still hard. maybe i'll go to different route

don't mean to burst anyone's bubble but these ideas are great and all until you realise you don't have a huge enough following to even get to the least time consuming way of earning money. putting yourself out there is one thing, but the social media algorithms are another thing, unless you pay for your ads to be pushed out. (also plus if you're someone who isn't good in teaching, only good in creating art-- cuz good artists ≠ good teacher-- then it's unrelated to some parts of this video sadly) these are just my thoughts after watching through the whole thing lol, do take it with a grain of salt :)

Not for all artists, but there are online platforms that don't require a following, like Etsy. There are also other online platforms/brands that will sell your art if they think you're a good fit. Physical spaces like art galleries will sell you work for you if you're a good fit. Businesses, like gift shops, will buy products wholesale. There's also licensing your work to companies or brands or individuals via online marketplaces. It depends on where your art fits in. Gotta contact people and see who wants to work with you.

thanks for making this! the amount of layoffs in multiple industries these days has been super unsettling, but an opportune moment to switch to an entrepreneurial mindset I'm sure these tips will help out so many artists of all levels, and it's really nice and important for people to have someone already making a living from social media to guide us 😭✨

I'm glad you're only mentioning digital products. Cause unfortunately I'm pretty broke to make a hardcopy of my art. 😖 Btw I've been told Etsy keeps record of the taxes on your products that you sold so it makes it easier to file them. 🤔Is that true?
@mewTripled Жыл бұрын
Yep digital products are a place to start! Etsy definitely makes it a little easier for people who are selling stuff for the first time. I know they take a bit more but as a person who honestly doesnt have time to run my own storefront, it works for me for now!

Here's my suggestion to you and take it or leave it. Stop talking about how you wish you could be back in the corporate world. Fully embrace and lean into as much as you possibly can this new self-employed person that you are. You are at war with yourself and I think it's hurting you in ways you don't even realize. I love your content regardless because I think you're a great artist and I like your swag, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth talking about not having a traditional job. You're good, you're doing it and you're surviving, girl. Just embrace the now and go full guns. Believe in yourself just like we all do.
