My ex-boyfriend and i learned about Los Algodones over 10 years ago from his retired aunt and uncle and have made the trip multiple times for root canals, extractions, crowns and everything else and the work has always been outstanding. Its about a 4 hour drive each way and we park at the hotel for $5 and walk across the border. The town is clean and safe and our main dentist had all her education in Loma Linda. An eye exam is about $10 and you can get your prescription glasses also at the many eye doctor in town.

It’s a shame to have to choose between paying my rent or paying for 1 maybe 2 teeth that need work on. Medical does not cover anything other than preventative care which is a cleaning and removal of tooth.But most of us need root canals,implants,crowns and none of that is covered unless you’re pregnant or under 21. I’ve had doctors who push for natural remedies when needed but they’re not ignorant to the fact that to change your diet and eat healthy cost money which a lot of there’s patients can’t afford or have access to. This, in fact, has been happening for years. I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, right across the border from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Since I was a kid, my parents used to cross the border for all kinds of reasons. Everything is way cheaper with American money, groceries, doctor's visits, dentists, food, getting your nails done, over the counter medication, and so on. The last time I saw a doctor in Juarez, I only paid $5 for the consultation. Medication in total was approximately $30. You do the math.

I cried watching this, a good cry. I live in Pennsylvania, in 2012 I went to Los Algodones for dental work. They would have picked me up in Yuma but one of the flights was delayed so i walked across the border where i met the van. They had their own hotel and would shuttle or get anything id askor need. The best part was my experience with the dental procedure itself. The same doctor and his assistant the entire time, they treated me as I was a relative, such care and compassion. The doctor even cried at one point because he forgot a root canal and had to numb me again. They stayed open late to finish on my last day ( instayed a week) and drove me to and payed for a hotel room in Yuma so i can be on time for my flight the next morning. I went for the prices ( 6,000) but ill never forget the care, empathy, and compassion i received. I speak more on that than prices when I tell people about it.

My mother got charged over $3000 dollars for a "root canal" in the USA. She still felt pain afterwards; the narcissistic dentist. The prima donna that makes no mistakes got extremely angry, refused to give her a second look, or to even fix the problem because he did a "perfect job". We went to Mexico, she got it done for less than $500 dollars. I decided to use my insurance. I made a dentist appointment, and I thought that I would get a dental cleaning as part of the dental appointment. The dental assistant took X-rays, and the dentists looked inside my mouth to tell me that my teeth are fine; I take extremely good care of them. I bought steel dental picks to scrape away plaque, and a steel tongue scraper from eBay. So the dentist walked out; no dental cleaning, and the dental assistant was ready to schedule me a second appointment to get my teeth cleaned up.... He had a a loan, and a payment plan ready to go.... I would be paying $2000+ USD for a "deep dental cleaning". I basically walked out. In Mexico dental cleanings are part of the dental appointment, and no more than $100 USD. I rather go to Mexico, and get my teeth "deep cleaned", and all for under $2000+ USD.

Deep cleaning is semi invasive procedure going under the gums when there is infection and inflamed beyond what a normal cleaning would do. It’s not a standard cleaning job and uses for more extreme cases. Deep cleaning procedures are much more labor intensive and will absolutely be life changing when needed. It sounds like that dentist was trying to scam you when you didn’t need that procedure though. I definitely have experienced a few shady dentists before finding a good one. My insurance covered some of the deep cleaning costs but it was still around a grand a think, but in my case it was necessary.

Goglee the Doctor, read the Reviews, search for cédula profesional ( Is a number you get when you finished your studies ) . Make an apointment AND if you have to wait 3 months thats a good sign. But the best Is to know someone that recomends the Doctor.

I went to Mexico to have my wisdom tooth extractions, crowns and root canal. It went well Alhamdullilah. I saved over 13k. However, I do wish I went to Turkey. Braces are overpriced in the US and at this point I’m too old for them. My family wasn’t born very wealthy so we couldn’t afford them at a young age. I’m going to go to Turkey soon and get a full mouth of veneers and my hair transplant. InshAllah I hope the procedures go well. It will all be affordable and cost me 10% of the cost of what just my teeth in the US would cost. To do full mouth set of veneers costs 20-70k in America. To do a good hair transplant from good surgeon is over 30-55k. Both procedures in Turkey cost about 10% of this. America has become ridiculous. I have no desire to live in this country for long. Looking at my options worldwide. I hope God makes it easier for me and my family. I would like to have enough money to care for my family and friends. My goal is to start a business I could do online or perhaps work a remote position in the United States. But I definitely do not want to live here full time. There are beautiful “3rd world” countries I can live in that have awesome beaches and rent is $200 a month to live. One cannot even live in the hood in America for less than 2k per month. To live in a posche area would cost atleast 3k-5k per month and I’m in the southern portion of the country. Bye bye. This is not my place….

I spent 2.5 years going to Algones for dental work. I had an almost complete rebuild of my teeth. I received excellent care. The cost was 20% of what it would have cost me in the USA. The people there are so nice; and the staff at my dental office very caring. I have walked every inch of that town many times. You can take a bus, with a transfer, from the Yuma airport to the border. Once you cross the border you are in downtown Algones. Most dental offices offer a free shuttle to and from the Yuma airport to their dental office. I stayed in town while I had my dental work done. I cannot state enough what a gift Algones is. It made my life better.

One thing that I think is so important to know, is that the doctors in Mexico are wonderful and caring, so good at being a doctor. Yes it’s less expensive than in the US, but it’s also often a higher level of care.

I actually go to a dental college here in the US for my dental work. I paid a fraction of what I would have if I had gone to a regular dentist and got excellent care there. I had a 3rd year student plus full fledged dentists overseeing his work. Considering the cost of dental care here I can completely understand people going into Mexico for care. Our entire health care system in the US is abysmal. It needs a complete restructuring. But it won't happen...why? It's very simple...GREED. This country runs on it.

This is devastating. My mom who is actually widowed and is a retired dentist had enough money to retire. However, due to her Parkinsons, with cognitive and physical problems she could not manage in assisted living. Private medical help costs $30/hour where we live, and so we couldn't afford that. She ended up going to Pakistan on a trip to visit family, and just stayed there because she can have 24/7 help and live in a home not a nursing home.

My wife of 37 years had a health issue that caused her to pass out while standing. She hit the floor hard, face first. She knocked it 7 teeth. We went to Castle Dentistry in this town. I chose to have 3 implants put in, my wife got a few root canals and 5 implants. I paid $2700 for my 3 implants, and $5100 for my wife's work. In Florida, the average cost would have been 3K to 4.5K per tooth. I say again, per-tooth! Jersey was $4700 to 6K per tooth. Do the math. Even with our monetary expenses for both of us to go to Los, Algodones, MX., it was still cheaper than having everything done in the USA. I wonder what would happen if our politicians had the SAME insurance coverage that most people have here in the US.!?

I used to go to Mexico for dental care as a kid. We were a middle class family but as a family of 5, dental insurance was expensive. I remember my dad telling me that it was cheaper to just pay in cash. I used to have a blast there. The street food and candy after our visit was always the best!!!

I'm a 45-year-old man, and the kindest, friendliest folks I've met are Mexicans. The politicians here in the US don't give them enough credit. Without their help, our country would be in serious trouble, not just economically but socially too. Many still hold onto old values like family and respect for strangers, lost here in the U.S. It's sad that some ignorant politicians exploit them. We're in dark times, but it's good to know there's still some light in our neighbors. We're pretty darn lucky, maybe even too much.

I am an American, and I live in south Mexico. When my daughter was 8, we paid $8500 after insurance for her braces in the USA, here, I was able to get braces for $2000, and my teeth are better than hers. It’s sad that my family has received better health care here in Mexico compared to the US. Two years ago, mom broke her ankle and tibia, she had surgery and I paid $1950 for screws and plates, and she healed beautifully and had the surgeons personal cellphone number

Hello, I got a question about your comment. In the US, what if after the medical appointment the medication doesn’t work, you got questions or something? If you need to run some labs do you need to go again to get the doctor’s recommendations? I ask because you seemed surprised to get the doctor’s personal number. I have the personal number of most of my doctors, their assistant’s and their office along with their professional mail and social media. I like medicine so I often have really interesting conversations with them and they’ve even sent me digital books. And if at the appointment they said I need some labs, I later do them and send them the results and they just send me the medicine I need and any other instructions or recommendations. I don’t know about competition but at least when I have questions they don’t know the answer or I need other type of doctor, they gladly recommend someone else and say their name if I do go to an appointment. Overall, I get along with all my doctors so I have really good experiences and I’m always happy when I have an appointment, I’m told that they get excited when I go because I’m a good patient and I make them think with my questions and so they learn more and get to explain their profession.

@@winternight1420 well when I lived in the US, in Tx, they only way to get ahold of anyone if I had questions was to leave a message with a nurse and they would respond within days, giving business hours, never was able to speak directly with my doctor . If not I would wait, if it’s an emergency, well the emergency room we would go. Labs and everything was also through doctors with waiting periods. It’s all bureaucracy in the US. I e lived here in Mexico now for 5 years, and the health care experience is wonderful compared to the US.

I took my dad to Los Algodones and wow! It was a great experience, he got attended at a Family owned dental clinic and his dentists spoke english and they had worked at LA for 5 years, so they knew pretty much the US standards, but they only charged like 20% of what it would have costed in San Diego. I'm so happy for the service they provided and my dad is so happy with his new mouth. I would definitely recommend going there to get work done.

A friend of mine in Panama had glaucoma and all doctors said he would be totally blind in 6 months and nothing could be done. His one son, daughter in law and myself sent him to Mexico City where he had surgery to reduce pressure. He tore at the bandages after and had to perform the surgery a second time. Neither the surgeon or hospital charged a cent. And now 9 years later he still has his vision. People of Mexico as well as the Mexican Government has heart. Something the US yet needs to discover. Don't go for implants if older than 35. You are wasting your money. But get rid of bad teeth and get dentures the cost will be almost certainly less than $500. And often less than $350. About 12% or less than cost in the US.

I'm from the state of Mexico, 10 minutes with Mexico City, we are not a real tourist state, well we have the Pyramids in Pachuca, but because of that, our prices are much lower than the ones in the border, Mexico City or the Tourist places, I got my wisdom teeth removed 3 years ago and I pay 45 dollar for it. I have dual citizenship and unlike alot of my family i stayed in Mexico, i was able to study dentistry and after about 6 years as a general dentist i was able to get my specialty in endodontics. In the past i worked for two years as a dental assistant in San Diego while i saved up to invest in my own private practice and let me tell you american and mexican dentistry is no different. If you think usa dentist for some reason are better you have no idea, i do realize that its maybe a little more regulated but other than that there is good and bad dentistry in both sides of the border. If you come to Mexico do some reaserch before making an appointment, cheap or expensive doesn't mean its going to be a good practice and please pretty please don't haggle the prices, my practice is oriented more towards mexican nationals but i do get tourist and it bothers me that some want to haggle the price like if it was a swap meet.

I picked SANI after doing a lot of research online and going down there to visit different dentists. I decided to pay for evaluations at two dental practices, the only charge is for the x-rays. I felt that was a good investment. SANI Dental made the better impression as a practice that has everything altogether in one place.

I did ask point by point in the end simply to be certain I'd understood the offer, but on the price I am happy to pay it! I traveled from Metro Detroit to Mexico in early 2015 to have dental work performed due to extensive damage caused by TMJ (A disorder of the jaw). Even then dentists in my area had quoted me 60K (With the possibly of the cost being even higher if they needed to do more than expected)! That was not only out of my budget, but waiting was not a good option either as the damage was only getting worse. Fortunately I found a fantastic dentist in Cancun, MX who coincidently had undergone advanced training in the US at the University of Michigan (Which is just a few miles from my home). She literally saved me from losing all of my teeth in my mid 30's, and I'm eternally grateful for that. If anyone is in need of dental care and considering Mexico I highly recommend Dr. Irma Gavaldon in Cancun. I would be more than happy to answer any questions about my experience in the comments.

Yes, Dr. Gavaldon speaks perfect English and so do many, if not most of her staff. I did stay at a hotel on my trip. There are a huge number of hotels in the area as the office is right in the middle of what they call the "Hotel Zone". I stayed at one that would best be described as a budget option, but it was very clean and even had a small pool. It's call the "Grand Royal Lagoon" and is just a few miles from the office (A 5 minute bus ride), or her office will also send a car to pick you up for free is you desire. @@IndigoCosmic

The great thing that Mexico does is that after high school they don’t need to do basic courses. They go straight into learning the skills that they want to begin their career in. Here in the United States the college makes you pay for 4 years of extra classes before you get to actually start the career path you want. Not over there. You want to be a dentist, vet, engineer or anything… straight out of high school you go to the classes you want to start your careers in. And their education is actually better than us in some areas. There are so MANY doctors in Mexico but too many people frown upon them because they only see the poverty.

I live in Mexico and absolutely that kind of stuff happens here. Happened to my Mexican partner when he got braces during the pandemic here. His orthodontist in CDMX tried to cheat us, and 2 other orthos were both pretty clear that the first ortho was trying to scam. It's not all bad. I'm getting Invisalign right now and it's probably $1500 cheaper than in the US with how bad the current exchange rate is. I also need major jaw surgery, which is cheaper in the states with insurance. Costs have risen very substantially in Mexico City. Dentist visits that were $30 are now $50. Same with medical care, some of the docs I've seen charge $60, $70, even $100+ when they were much cheaper 3-4 years ago. I am moving back to the US because I have too many complex health problems, and both Mexican private insurance and government will not cover or treat connective tissue disorders. Also note that my ex is a US dentist who trained in California and worked in the PNW. He told me that they often had to fix Mexican dental work, and I heard a couple horror stories. Don't get me wrong, horror stories in the US too. Buyer beware. All that to say it's a little less black and white. People need to weigh out the pros and cons.

The issue with the US is that the dentist have to earn sooooo much money to pay back loans and cover their insurance plus make payments on their big house and car. It's different abroad. In CDMX, the cost is going up because of the huge number of Americans moving in, driving up cost. Plus inflation. There is no utopia. I would rather earn american dollars and pay out in lesser currencies though. I'm a veteran with dental problems too. I've talked to long term VA employees who don't even get dental. I've been talking to a dentist in Guatemala and sent him my x rays. He quoted me at a max of $3000 for all of my teeth fixed or bridged. $30000 if I had it done here.

I do not have health insurance and i live in the northeast of the usa . I actually pay for a yearly membership called EDP , its a dental plan membership it provides you with a list of Dentist and other dental specialists and the provide dental work for less . Eventually i found a dentist i actually like who also has new equipment what i ended up doing with her suggestions is setting money aside to treat one tooth at the time treating the ones that were more urgent first .

In Mexico there is a physician in A LOT of drugstores, you pay 5 dollars and you get a normal consultation. Here in Mexico City where I live there are literally 5 drugstores within 3 blocks of my house, and all 5 have at least one physician. Only if I have something more serious do I visit an specialist, and I pay around 60 dollars. It's one of the things I like about my country.

Yes! My husband and i visited CDMX (By the way an Amazing World Class City) and we visited a farmacia twice. The doctor was not only a physician but a surgeon. We payed her 200 pesos each visit as a DONATION. Excellent service and we didn't even have to pay if we chose not to! With a prescription! Wow! Te Amo Mexico! 🇲🇽

Doctors in the U.S. wouldn't tell my aunt what she had, she went to Mexico and in the span of a few days they found 2 non cancerous tumors in her body and had them removed (don't want to specify where). Now she's doing 100x better and just healing, our healthcare system has failed each and everyone of us. But hey they'll be there ready to take their portion from my check every other week! :D

My mother had a local dentist who was very pricey since he wanted a lavish, opulent lifestyle. She had two gold crowns redone with him. On the way out she asked for her old gold; staff told her "that's against clinic policy;" he came out and told her "these won't bring anything," she had me take them to a jeweler and he paid $145 for the gold! Later she became a dental tourist to somewhere in Mexico. She saved $7,000 over his prices. When she went in for cleaning he asked "when are you coming in for those bridges and crowns," she said she had those done in Mexico. He threw a fit and almost dumped right on the floor!!!!! Greed is the worst part of USA medicine. Dialysis centers are the greediest part of medicine! Da Vita Dialysis has paid out $1,295,000,000 in lawsuit settlements for fraudulent activities! And about dentists, I left a dentist as a client when he dissed my concverns about mercury use. "You probably get more from a can of tuna," sure, and everyone with those risky fillings goes around with a can of tuna all the time!!!!!!!!

Such an important story to tell. In Tijuana alone, medical tourism brings close to 3 billion usd annually to the city. Health care, of course including dental, is far too expensive in the U.S. Coming to Tijuana is a viable option that gives access to people who would have otherwise not been able to receive the treatment they need.

I live in Los Angeles. In 2017 I needed to do 2 root canals and 2 crowns, total cost here in Los Angeles at that time was $4,200 (even with dental insurance). I went to a dental office near the Tijuana border and it cost me $1,300. The dental office even picked me up from the border. I saved $2,900. I can totally relate the story and the people who go to Los Algodones.

No Wonder my cousin was super shock when she paid 8000 for simple teeth treatment without insurance. she is indonesian who got married with US citizen. in our country i had root canals treatment just for $350 and same $200 for crowns with specialist dentist treatment ( one specilits in teeth conservation and 1 was by prostodonsia). $1800 is a price for brace treatment by experienced perodontist.

On October 2021 I ended up being in 4 hospital after my heart got swollen (myocarditis) after getting COVID vaccinated. I had health insurance from my job but that thing was trash. Anyways I rushed home from work and quickly drove to Mexico which took me less than 15 minutes. Once I arrived they quickly put on morphine within 5 minutes of entering that small hospital. The doctor there was on call and he immediately got there and told me what they found. I only payed $500 USD compared to the $8,000+ that my local USA hospital would later bill me for. The doctor that 1st saw me in the US doubted the Mexican professionals commenting things like “their equipment is old” & “they’re always releasing patients with wrong diagnosis’s) I laughed at him in my head after I heard him say that as my local hospital couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me in my previous visit which was over 8 months ago during this time. Anyways it took them over 2 hours to give me the exact same results compared to the 30-45 mins it took the MXN doc to figure out. Too bad that both the Pharma & Insurance companies are being corrupted by politicians & billionaires who stand in the background.

Best part was i got it done while i was on a 2 month vacation in Mexico. And something intresting i saw while down there, Canadians are also going down there for health care.

I agree i got my dental work for $1500 for me and my son. I had migraine problems for years and this last year they were unbearable. I crossed over to Mexico saw a specialist and he told me what was wrong. I have not had a migraine headache. I am so happy that doctors like this exist and they can help people get the healthcare they need. My father ended up having to have all of his teeth removed due to years of poor health & an accident at work a little over 25 years ago that left him with such extensive tooth damage. The only reason we were even able to afford to pay the amount we paid to have his damaged teeth removed five years ago was because a family member stepped in and offered to help. We would have been out 30k for the removal & the implants that he received (He doesn't even have a full set of implants, only the bottoms are implants and the tops are dentures because it would have been another 20k to do the top implants). America's healthcare is not care at all, it's a money grab to take as much as they can from the poor.

This recently happened to my mother, she had a really bad gallstone pain for 2 years! Everytime we went to the american doctor they gave us the run around of wanting more tests. She then went to mexico to see her brother and had one of her painful events and they decided to take her to see a family member who happens to be a gastrointestinal doctor who immediately diagnosed gallstones and gave her some medicine. She went back to the states and show her results to the american doctors but again the gave her the run around and said it couldnt be that. 6 months of no help we decided to go back to mexico where the doctor said her gallbladder is about to burst and needs an immediate removal, charged her $1700 for the removal and get her out the next day and she hasnt had a pain attack since.

My family moved from Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico to Manhattan, NY, USA for work and the thing we miss the most by far are the health services. I pay over usd$300 a month for health, dental & vision insurance and it's almost useless when one feels sick. You have to go to ER and face a huge bill or wait for a few weeks or even months to get a doctor appointment, and most things require multiple appointments each one with "co-pay". Even with fancy insurance health services in the USA are terrible, usually useless. They have the best doctors and equipment but unless you are willing to pay thousands out of pocket they won't help you.

I love our Mexican neighbors! Some of my greatest memories were days and weeks spent in various parts of Mexico. Some of the most genuine and lovely people I’ve ever known were in Tulancingo and Reynosa. Even if US healthcare/dental care was more affordable, I think it would be great to keep these sorts of cross cultural relationships open and thriving. However, border control is important. Bad people from all over the world take advantage of our southern borders. Good people should not be punished for the crimes of bad people, but a complete lack of checks and balances is foolish. And I’d say both right wing and left wing parties have it wrong, so I wish both Reds and Blues would quit virtue signaling. We have had both democrats and republicans in office over the decades and no one has come up with a workable solution to the border/immigration issues.

I’ve had to go to mexico for all my major surgeries and appointments. I’ve seen oncologists in mexico, I can say the doctors are significantly better than the doctors here, both in their demeanor towards you and their practice. They actually feel empathy towards you and like that they’re able to help you. It’s also been significantly cheaper. I love my origin and my people, we know how to take care of each other. We take pride in our culture and our people; that’s something American people will never get to experience and it’s saddening.

I was in Los Algodones in June and I visited Castle Dental for my dental work. I had an accident in January of this year and most of my teeth were affected so I had some serious work that needed to be done and so far I am very satisfied with the worked they’ve done. I have to go back in January of this year to finish everything because it takes 6 months of healing before they can put the permanent work. The temporary work that they did is beautiful so I at least have something to hold me until the permanent work is finish. Very very happy with the work and the cost. My husband also got two pair of glasses for like a 1/3 of the cost.

I remember reading (and also drawing out) a comic that depicted a man who was charged a hefty bill after going to the dentist. As revenge for being charged so much money, the patient screamed so loudly that the other patients in the waiting room could hear him. He faked being in excruciating pain, prompting the entire group of awaiting patients to flee out of the dentist office (thereby leaving the dentist with no more customers to overcharge) Even though the original comic was Chinese in origin, I felt like it represented America's dental health care coverage way better....

I'm a dental hygienist here in Colorado and I support medical tourism. Until we reform America's medical coverage I completely agree that this is the only way people can take care of their dental needs without going into debt! My patients get so heated about their co-pays and dental bills when they pay into "great" dental insurance I have to tell them insurance is more like a little discount plan more than coverage of any kind. Also the amount of dental procedures that my patients clinically need for their gum health that is not covered AT ALLl drives me insane. America is soooooo overdue for a better way of Healthcare. 😡
