MF 135 & Vicon Disc Mower Cutting Hay 2011

Faster, no clogging at all no matter how thick the crop is, no messing about taking out the knife to sharpen it, no brokensickle sections to hammer off and replace, no ledger plates to adjust, no points to become misaligned / broken. Need I say more? Believe me, once you have used a disc mower, you will NEVER go back to a sickle !

@huwg3 The bit at the start is high 2nd (me driving) and the rest is dad doing it in high 1st. I will cut in either gear depending on crop conditions and the gradient.

Wow, that Massey cruises right along. Disc mowers should be mandatory, kinda like radial tires vs the old bias ply tires.

yes two blades per disc, i think it was the first of these type of mower vicon made and went on to become a cm165 rather than a discus

Is the front skirt up to stop it flattening that crop or only to show the mower bed for filming ? Personal I'd leave it down I've seen a few fist size stones shoot out the mower and land 20 feet behind and a couple of smaller ones shoot forward the same amount, but our mower has a conditioner as well.

Well what I mean is imagine what damage they could do without the skirt to slow them down (actually skips along ground). I will admit they were only thrown forward in light crops, the grass actually catches them in good heavy crops. I do go and find them afterwards and give them a good toss into the middle of the nearest hedge after hopefully finding nothing but a couple of extra dents in the steel guard.

Do you think it would spin one more disc. Planning on cutting this year with a 6’10” vicon/Vermeer disc mower with my 135.

it doesnt clog up like a sickle bar mower does especially if the crop is heavy or flat. needs a lot more power than a sickle bar mower though

Needs a new bearing on one of the discs which will have to be done for this season, other than that its been ok. It has done a huge amount of work in its life by the look of it, and we have only had it for the last 10 years.

Very good video, thanks for making it for us non-farmers. How long will the hay need to dry before it's baled? And, will you put bale it into large round bales or small square bales?

thanks, if it was hot dry weather it would be ready in 4-6 days in my part of the world. if the weather is poor it could take a couple of weeks or more and at that point its hardly worth making. Our hay is baled into small square bales.

no idea really, only thing i ever bought for it were blades and got them at local dealer, you could try spaldings or malpas tractors?

tidy tractor and mower lad looks like an old mower has it only two blades per disc? never seen a vicon that hadnt three baldes per disc
