I loved the part where you talked about "being a romantic and loving love" - I'm the same way! I always have been intrigued by the psychology and dynamics of relationships and how they influence a person. My favorite kind of shows are The Bachelor or any match-making show, hahah I'm considering becoming an LMFT myself and am glad I found this video. Can I ask what drew you to MFT versus any other counseling program? For me, it's been hard to narrow down what graduate degree to pursue. There's MSW, LMHC, LMFT, etc. My goal is private practice, working with individuals with anxiety/depression/possibly relationship issues. From what I'm learning so far, LMFT seems like a very good choice

So amazing..coming from a grad student who’s in the same field. Definitely agree with you especially on the part of being on your practicum and being able to see client 👍🏽.

Your channel really reminds me why I’m working so hard in school even though I’m dyslexic and experienced my own mental health issues (recovered thankfully) that it’s possible to become a MFT and excel at it ❤️

Loved this video...thank you so much. Could you do a day in the life of a practicum/internship student? I loved your day in the life video you did but I’m wondering what type of workload/responsibilities would a student have in practicum and internships
@StephAnya4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alicia! I wish I could, but since I’m past that point in my journey, I can’t do the same format. It would essentially be very similar except for instead of trainings I had schoolwork and a lot more frequent supervision. I also saw significantly less clients.

During your practicum how did you support yourself financially? Did you still have time for a sustainable job on the side or did you need support? Thank you for your videos by the way! They've definitely helped me find my path being a first generation student.

Depending on where you live, some practicum/internships are paid, though most aren’t. I know those that work full time and do their practicum and internship, but they take longer to finish all of their classes. Others work part time or just get loans. It really depends on your comfortability of financial debt and/or length you want your schooling to be. Some people I know also work really hard and apply to a bunch of scholarships and get a ton of funding just through that alone. Some universities offer graduate teaching or research assistant positions. I would ask around with professors.

I have been thinking of becoming a marriage & family therapist or an accounting for my bachelor's degree. I'm still thinking about what the choose until fall comes. However, this information gives me ideas for working as a therapist.

I wanted to ask how do you deal with clients who deal with self harm or even suicide idealization or thoughts of suicide?

Hey! I have a video that explains this. Look for the video that says, “I’m fully licensed!” Are you in California?
