"I can imagine hwo it'd be driving around here with a leaf" At least you won't be bothered by the sound of the battery cooling :P Hey Bjorn, if you read this (I know you are doing that less because it's becoming a bit too much) but maybe you could use your social media "reach" to try to find out how much battery replacements for EV's cost. By now for a lot of brands I'm sure there have been quite a few replacements already, so people might be willing to show their bills so the public can get an idea what the costs involved would be like, and which brands have "fair" prices and which ones don't. Basically the whole battery replacement thing is 1 big black box with not much info on what the process is like, what the costs are and how viable it is to replace a pack instead of getting a new car. For example there's been that leaf in australia where they basically just quoted the price of a new car for the battery replacement. Those people knew it was BS because there's plenty of info about leaf battery replacements. But with other brands by sharing that info in the community, it could give EV owners a bargaining chip if a dealership tries to charge way too much compared to other dealerships, or nearby countries. I've looking into used EV's but most brands/dealerships don't want to talk about battery replacement prices at all. Most claim "we don't know what it would cost" which seems like BS to me.

By the time the warranty is over for most cars, the battery prices will be way lower than today. So the prices for today don't matter so much. Right now for big battery its quite high 10.000-20.000€ or something.(my own numbers) But that number doesn't mean much for me. Everywhere there are battery factory's being built, in 10 years i guess its like 3000-8000€ for a big battery. And on top of that, i don't think i will ever need a replacement. Because the new battery's are so reliable and durable. (since Model 3)

@@kasmopaya2676 Many EV's are already out of (battery) warranty, and that's why it's good to start gathering info on battery replacements in a centralized place. It might actually become something that car makers are gonna compete on if it becomes "trackable", thus lowering the prices for consumers. many of the old "small battery" EV's on the 2nd hand market are down to

@@esenel92 You can actually find out what the cost of battery replacement will be. Just go to a dealership and say that you want the battery pack on your Nissan Leaf replaced, because it now has a low capacity (even though you might not own a Nissan Leaf). And then when they tell you the price, you can just say you think it's a bit expensive, and you will try to get it cheaper elsewhere. And if they ask for the number plate of your Nissan Leaf, just give the plate from a random Nissan Leaf you have seen.

And, if you go to the dealership on your bike, you can just say it's because your wife is currently using the car :-)
@allan500m

But all that said, most new EV's have very little battery degradation, and most of the degradation happens in the beginning. And many people drive less than 50 km. per day, and for those people an EV with just 100 km. range could be fine, and still having a good 'safety buffer' in case of more degradation or cold weather.

Is it the 50kw charging speed that limits a lot of these? Your chart has a big gap between the 10-11 hr and then 14+ hr. if some of the smaller cars had 100kw charging speeds maybe they’d be higher up the table?

Very good observation. They should start improving charging capabilities(both vehicle and the grid) rather than making the batteries bigger and heavier

Kinda curious how these 1000km drive times stack up to a roughly equivalent diesel or petrol car. From what I've seen of your other ones I'd say they compare favourably, but it would be cool to see how favourably.

Tesla has a big overhead in battery heating if you only do short journeys. Even at 7 deg C I get the ice symbol up. It can work out that a 2 mile journey uses 6 miles of juice. My electricity bill has shot up as I plug the Tesla in for a while before I leave to allow the heaters to do their stuff. At one point, in sub zero weather with several short legs to the journey I was using 20 miles of juice to do 5 miles. However thats nothing compared to ICE costs - DPF's(diesel) and exhausts costs(petrol) make it quite cheap. Unfortunately my blood pressure regime means that cold temperatures are a misery so walking is out.

It will be very difficult to travel 1000km and doing such challenge in France now as Izivia, the main fast charger operator, is shutting down 90% of the chargers. So as of today, there is nearly no fast charger on French motorways anymore if you want to cross the country.

A good measure of the abilities of the MG on level roads. It would be good to see a mountain challenge, going several times to the top of Doi Pui and back to the zoo. 350 m up to 1500m and back. About 20km each way. Give us the stats at top and bottom - and in the daytime so we can see the views. Let us know how it handles on the twisty roads.
