Good review. Having test driven Mach-E, Ioniq5 ID4 and EV6 we stumbled across the new MG ZS at the Hyundai/MG dealers. Took the car for an extended test drive with very low expectations, how wrong I was. Picked OH up and she loves it in comparision to the other models we test drove. Ordered expected delivery April/May 2022. Added bonus we are saving £15-20k in comparision to the other models specced to MG ZS Trophy.

Thank you KC for an excellent assessment. Like you the old analogue dials I believe are very good and extremely clear, so may be I am old fashioned to (all that’s new is not necessarily better). However I test drove the long range and ordered the Trophy. The ZS is an excellent and practical car for 4 adults in spite of the fact it has a small footprint. I have had all manner of things in it sometimes with the tailgate bungeed down with lots of things on the roof bars. The better news is the Long Range is homologated for towing, so I will be able to tow my small trailer and fit my push bikes on the tow bar cycle rack. The USB for the dash cam should be handy and the VTL could be an interesting feature. I fortunately ordered mine before the 15th Dec so locked in the £2,500 grant. Look forward to your follow up video.

I drove both the MG5 and the ZS EV. I thought the ZS EV was the better car overall so I’ve ordered one. I originally liked the MG5 for the looks and price, but got put off by the ride quality in the rear seats and the amount of wind noise and buffeting at speed which was very much less on the ZS EV much to my surprise. I took both cars out on a blustery day and the difference between them was very noticeable. The MG5 is a good choice if you’re budget won’t stretch to the ZS EV though.

Great informative video, thank you. I got the MG5 long range Exclusive (last week) over the ZS EV long range. I couldn't justify the price of the ZS trophy as its without the gov grant which also puts it up against the e-niro/kona in price

Hopefully when supply starts to meet demand we will see some offers on this car but right now it is too expensive for me. Luckily I am happy with my MK1 ZS

Thank you for this vid, nice an informative and balanced, perfect for me as I'm considering an upgrade to this from my own Mk1 next year. If I were to give any feedback it would be that it is very irritating when you pronounce words that start with Th with an F instead (fink, free, etc) but that's probably regional! Take care dude.

Good initial impressions video. However I don't agree with you on buying the MG5 over this. I seriously considered buying and the MG5 long range is a good car but until they give it the new infotaiment system seen in the MG ZS I would never buy it. It really is the thing that lets the car down and makes it seem cheap. I'm sure there will be a facelift before too long which rectifies this.

Is there a way I can connect my phone to the car via Bluetooth automatically. Every time I restart the Trophy I have to pair the car and phone again. I think my MG ZS EV Mk 1 stayed paired? Thanks

Hi. I’ve come to the conclusion that a major omission in the MG EV package is the complete lack of UV protection in the window glass. The option of (heavy tint) privacy glass back from the ‘B’-pillar aside, virtually all other car brands/models available on the U.K. have a level of built-in UV protection, whereas MG - certainly as far as the ZS EV is concerned (and I suspect the 5 EV also), regardless of trim level (bearing in mind that the top trim ZS EV now costs in excess of £34K) is supplied with, completely, clear glass which, in the case of my own model is also of rather suspect quality, night driving giving every external light source, regardless of the cleanliness of the screen, inside and out, it’s own rather large ‘starred halo’. There also seems to be what I can only describe as a patterning within in the screen itself which has the look of a vaguely translucent ‘leather gain’ effect, as if the laminating process of the glass/plastic/glass sandwich had not been completed fully, or one or more of the mating surfaces was not completely clean at the time of assembly. I suspect this may well be the reason for the severe haloing effect described above. Great shame!

100%, the ZS EV LR does not have a heat pump, and I kept the heating around 20 C

I found the MG to be cheaper than most of it's competitors. However this has its downside the build quality is not as good as it could be. The materials used are very low quality even for a budget vehicle. The handling is feels like a car from 10 years ago. The infotainment system is messy and unresponsive. The charge port door is better than the stupid floating door. But still feels flimsy and easy to break. I'm not saying it's a bad car but definitely need a lot more refinement and better quality materials.
