Great video. Would love to see the charging curve on an ultra rapid.

Yes, climate control was on, although around 18-20C as I don't like it that hot!

Excellent video. This last week in my MG5 LR (in the UK) I'd turned on the battery heating about 30 mins before leaving home with 100% SOC. We got the a rapid charger with 17% SOC, charge delivered from the 50kW rapid was 45kW and it didn't start throttling until 89% SOC so I'm guessing the battery heating may have had something to do with hitting a higher SOC before throttling.

Does the pre heat not effect the range? As I know that's different on the new zs ev...
@KCTalksEV2 жыл бұрын
I did not have battery heating enabled. From my experience unless it is very cold (0-5C), driving from 100-0% can heat the pack up to a reasonable temperature.

@@KCTalksEV I would love to know if it works the same as a tesla, when you set a destination on the inbuilt system does it change the battery heater and does it show charge stations?

Great stuff! Can you do a test on a 150kW and then post the charging curve on ABRP so everyone can use it? I remember Zoe's do an annoying thing where they don't include the energy used for heating in the on screen calc which had the effect of making the useable capacity seem smaller. Might be the same here.

I'll see what I can do 🙂

@@KCTalksEV yes test with 150kw or 100kw for the long range should be help us to know trend line of charge, I'm press to know what range of battery the mg zs can support 94kw. good job ! no french youtuber present this car in detail !

Please I want to use it for private hire without heating or climate control on will I get more than 300 miles for city ride? I don't do motor way in london
@KCTalksEV2 жыл бұрын
I think you would struggle to get 300 miles city driving in winter. Best way to find out is to take one out for an extended test drive and give it a go on your shift pattern if the dealers allows. Also, would there be any opportunities for a top up charging during a shift? 15 minutes may all be needed to keep you going for the rest of the day. In city driving, my MK1 ZS EV would indicate up to 200 miles in the summer but it would be a struggle to achieve that. There would be no chance in the winter if I was using heating.

Thats not bad considering its all motorway miles. I think this is a great family car and medium range commute car. If you want real long range you need to pay big bucks still

Then it seems to add up with the MG Marvel which had a consistent speed at a 50kw charger uptil 80% *source EV Database

Thank you for this real-life test. 320 KM for 100% of battery (which you cannot get to, so 300KM at most) is far away from the declared 440KM. And this is with AC off, as it is Feb.now. A definite deal breaker for me. This is not a "long range" car. Maybe just "not very short range".

Bear in mind it's all on highway. WLTP is measured based on a mix of all situations, so also city driving and inbetween. Besides that the weather temperature, wind speeds, wind direction, etc all influence the range.
@borgqueenx2 жыл бұрын
what? 260km range from the 440km WLTP? That's a LOT less, for driving at 11 degrees AND staying under 100km/h speeds.
@KCTalksEV2 жыл бұрын
No, 160 mile (260 km from 80%), but 320 km from 100%, which is what WLTP is quoted from. Still lower than expected but not as bad as you say.

I love EVs I’m seriously considering one but if another EV is charging you can end up adding 2 hours to a journey 🤔

Depending on the circumstances, I've found at most it's been 45 minutes or so. For example, at Donnington Park during the Christmas break, there was a queue of around 2 cars, but there was two chargers (still no dual connector charging then!). Most could take the higher power too. I calculated how long I needed to be there and made sure I left after that time. It's all about courtesy. This may be reduced once dual connector charging on Gridserve for example is allowed (some locations already have this). Another aspect is live availability on ZapMap helps massively as you avoid chargers that are charging, or as you can work how long they are there, how long they'll likely be there.
