I'd suggest another oil change after >25 hours hours running. Cheap maintenance to clear older crud that got dislodged with the new oil. Enjoy the videos. Long past my mgb life, but memories good.

Thanks for the video, need to do this to my 72 midget, same scenario, sat for years, car is up in the air waiting on a new set of leaf springs right now , figured what a better time to drain the oil. Keep the videos coming my friend

Hi, I would suggest that you use synthetic oil for your next oil change, because after 21K miles, your engine is not old. Synthetic oil does not oxidize as much as conventional oil, which then “times out” sooner, so it is actually more appropriate for cars that aren’t daily driven . For example, I use synthetic in my old ‘89 motorhome. Is 20W/50 a bit thick for an unworn engine? I use that weight of oil on a high mileage engine. I’ve had more than a few old cars over the decades.

20W/50 is the correct oil for an MGB engine regardless of the age. I certainly would advise against running anything thinner in these cars.

Wow, just so happens I too need to change oil on a 1978MGB, that's only sat for 15 years. Let's see if I can get that puppy going.

Awesome! Let me know how it turns out. :)

@@DrDExplainsStuff, it's now a couple weeks down the road, so to speak. Got it started. New battery, of course, cleaned the plugs, removed air filter to carb, at first starter wasn't engaging, removed & tested...it was fine so onto other stuff. Turned out it was a faulty wire to the starter relay. Also, had to "free up" motor by putting it in gear and rocking it back and forth. Checked to see if there was a spark, and there was. Some hoses need replacing. Got fresh fuel, replacing hoses tomorrow and checking brakes and give it another turn...now to change oil & filter, before tomorrow.

Awesome progress Tom! I wish you could put this stuff on KZbin, but I know it's time consuming. Let me know if you hit any snags!

I think I'd leave that to drain for a couple of days. What's 48 hours on top of 30 years?

And, next time put the car in level :)
@rip5914 жыл бұрын
Well that's what you normally do, I see that with this MG-B it in fact help al little so empty out the oil.

You should not use the jack point with your trolley jack to lift the car especially on a rusty old car. If the jack pipe is rusted you would simply crush it ! If you use the standard car jack it won’t crush it even if it’s rusted
@DrDExplainsStuff3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the tip! Which spot would you use instead? I don’t want to cause damage when I jack, but that’s the only jack point I’ve read about on the side of the vehicle.

@@DrDExplainsStuff Centerd under the front crossmember and the rear differential or for individual wheels the front lower A arms and the rear leaf springs also work. I'd also suggest getting a copy of the book The Complete Official MGB, Moss Motors has it if you haven't got it already.

Looks like the oil is turning back into petroleum.
