@transformersrevenge9 Жыл бұрын
@@siriushauserVT It's still kinda really weird. Raiden goes to that place where he fights the Ray's, and it's a calm and dark seaside setting, with hints of the VR missions and thrown in there. But when Solidus captures him and takes him outside, it's windy, stormy, and they are on a moving Arsenal Gear. Thematically it makes sense that the fight took place in VR. Raiden has been training in VR, and at that time, he was loosing his sense of actual reality.

This is probably the best way to describe what my sort of "theory" is that connects all of these crazy codec calls. With the AI going haywire from the virus, it somehow opens up into the media populus and, at least for some of its codec calls, it's just echoing the things it's reading online. This is going to sound so stupid, but you wanna know the one that scared me the most the first time I heard it? The "eating" one. You only get that call during the Arsenal Tengu fights. By now, you know that "Colonel" is GW, and he's acting weird because of the worm cluster. "Colonel" had started spouting random nonsense at Raiden, quoting other characters, reading the descriptions for VR missions, listing the names of train stations, etc. The last time he had addressed Raiden by name was "turn the game console off now." So, why is this one scary? Because it's so normal. Remove the visual effects and change the background music, and you could convince me that it was just a normal funny Codec. Most of all though, he recognizes and addresses Raiden. It made me question everything I thought I knew about the situation. Is the AI pretending to be broken? Is this all just part of S3? Am I walking into a trap? It's a real testament to how brilliant the Arsenal Gear section of MGS2 is that I started panicking over that call.

I had an unique unintentional sequence in this segment when i played it for the first time. It was on the PC Version. I got through the hall leading to the closed room where you wait out until snake appears. The conversation with the Colonel and Rose started, and just after rose mentions she is pregnant the game froze, the volume was set to max and the audio got glitched out repeating some part of the word being uttered. It was horrifying, so much so that i thought it was intended to happen at that moment. Turns out my PC decided to have seizure right in that moment. my shitty toaster just couldn't handle it anymore. After a reboot it worked fine. Still. I don't think i'll ever forget this premium experience i had during this segment which was already unnerving.

@@cgplays9 Yes, it was Metal Gear 1&2. They released on the MSX(PC hardware) from the late 80s to early 90s and kickstarted the series before MGS1 changed gaming forever on the PlayStation in 1998.

@@cgplays9 they first game had an NES adaptation (not port, adaptation due to a lot of changes) that sold over one million copies in North America alone. Then there was completely separate MG2 that never released in Japan. During development of that game, someone told Kojima on a train, and begged him to make his own MG2. So he did, and it was more in line with the first game’s gameplay.

"We seek to create context". Man, this was creepy. This game predicted the future.

This feels like a information age satire and how brilliant is this game predicting social media dynamics. Useless informations that stimulates us makes us distracted from true meaning of what life is, become degenerate.

I always wondered if the *A.I. Colonel Roy Campbell* in MGS2 predicted the Future of *"Bots"* in Social Media such as KZbin etc.

I remember the first time I played this and this part freaked me out. I was about 16 and had just got done smoking a whole blunt to the head. I freaked out because my dad was out of town for the week and was supposed to come home early that Saturday morning. This was early Friday at around three in the morning and I was fucked up out of my mind. In my blistered haze I somehow thought when the colonel said that something happened to him last Thursday on the way home I interpreted that as something had happened to my dad. I tried to call his cell phone, which was obviously cut off that late and began to panic. I called my mom while she was at work third shift at her job and told her about it the best I could. She asked what the hell I had been taking, drinking and/or smoking and reassured me that I was just tripping. I also told on myself and got an earful when she came home.

You know, in hindsight this entire chapter ends up making he hatred Raiden received back then even harsher and unwarranted, because if you think about it he was just as hapless and confused as the player. I'd go so far as to say this was the moment where the line between the player and Raiden completely dissolved as both ended up questioning the Lovecraftian mindfuck they found themselves in, and at some point they shut off entirely to preserve what little sanity they had left.

"You seem to get a real thrill out of slaughtering the enemy. Are you frustrated about something?" I've always loved how each game makes some sort of comment about how you play the game, how lethal you choose to be particularly.
