that's how drop tests are properly done, finally somebody who knows how to do it. On every drop test they drop it like 1.5m, of course every equipement couldn't resist that tremendous impact. Ceramic is a good choice for buttons and back, but not for the sides of a phones, which should be made of a softer material that can absorb those impacts.

@@Gaxriel @Earl Ceramic is hard, so it will not scratch. But if it is stilghtly deformed, it will shatter. Look at plastic vs glass. Plastic will scratch easily, but glass won't. But if you apply some force on plastic, it handles it by bending, and losing its shape. Apply the same force on the glass and it will not bend, but snap. So the most durable material would be metal, which is ductile (If you apple enough force, you can bend it into wires), but also hard enough -so it withstands drops, scratches, and bend tests very well.

Sure bummed me out looking for a new phone... it broke the screen and the phone is history from one small mistake from a knee high drop! I hate to say it but this demonstration says more about human nature and it's priorities than Nature will likely allow. My $10 LG took years to break the screen and had the weight of a tripod on it when it hit the sharp corner of a glass table really hard.

Now that is how a drop test should be performed! Simulating real drop conditions was a brilliant idea. And you know what, my Nexus 5X fall roughly from the same height and hit exactly same corner. Apparently I was super lucky (or the phone is tougher or maybe because headphones was attached) that my screen did not crack same way.

Actually metal is harder than plastic and because of that conduct shock waves better. So I would argue about better protection to other parts of the phone. That is why all tough phones like Samsung Active series or from other manufactures (sorry don't know model names) have hard rubber corners.

no it's not interesting at all. it's always been the case with super scratch resistant phones. The iPhones used to be the most vulnerable to drops back in the days when smartphones were still "new" because they refused to use plastic on phones while androids were complete plastic monsters.

Seriously what was wrong with plastic bezel phones? Not fashionable enough? Is it better to have a pretty phone till 1st drop or to keep it wrapped all the time in plastic case, or slightly less pretty phone that stays that way all the time? My old Galaxy S2 survived lots of falls has some chips and scratches on plastic edge but screen is intact and hey - No glass rear panel to break. S5 is still holding fine, can't even see any dents on plastic edge, but it has never been dropped on hard concrete (yet...), just wooden floor and tiles.
