I actually totally don’t recommend ever getting a mattress off marketplace because of the chance of bed bugs. One of my good friends did this and ended up with a mess dealing with bed bugs and still is. I am so glad you didn’t get one just for the slight chance it did happen

No matter how cheap the mattress is, getting treatments for bed bugs is more expensive. Just don't do used mattresses unless you can absolutely 100% verify that your friend, coworker, or family member (never a rando) does not have bed bugs. Or lice.

I totally agree. I had bedbugs in my college apt (nightmareeee). We did buy one on marketplace only because it was new and had the slightest defect unrolling so they sent the person a new one and we were ok with it never being slept on. I worked in the paint department at Home Depot. When people were picking out white I ALWAYS put it by the brightest white to compare it to. You can see the undertones of the different whites by comparing it. People thanked me so many times because of this! Whites matter. This happened to look good because it was blue white. Can’t imagine a yellow white. Ugh! But this was totally awesome.

This video suggestion might be hard to accomplish so I imagine you'd have to do it over a period of time; but you should try to decorate a room with only free items and anything under $20 from FB Marketplace, Nextdoor, Offerup, etc. I know it's possible because that's usually the only way I get furniture and other things I need because even used items are still too expensive in many cases lol

I actually just did a fb marketplace room (my mom just moved here to be closer to me and I have a room there) I paid total $190 for two lamps, a bed frame (all wood) a set of 3 shelves, a basket and artwork, all Asian themed, I had two nightstands, and a mattress and box spring and a comforter set already, I bought pillows, drapes, and the window and shower rods as well as sheets for about $100 total from walmart, my room is the size of a 2 car garage (it's actually wider than the garage lol) there is space for a couch and chair i already have my eyes on a partial sectional i was told i can have the chaise lounge from, it it's completely doable... And now I have the all asian inspired room I always wanted

I know I’m 3 years late but your comment made me curious too! I added it up and I got roughly $387. I say roughly because the paint cans were $6 each for the full cans and $3 for the half cans but I didn’t know which were full or not. I went from a 1 room in my parents very small flat to having 900sqf of house to furnish and I've done a lot of in on ebay and also via "Freecycle" not sure if its all over the world but we have it in the UK, I also shopped at a lot of zero waste places that sell everything super cheap. I think the most I spent on furniture was my bedframe, (£200) everything else was about max £30s. I also put an ad up in my local shop and people donated furniture to me, so I got a lot of awesome stuff completely free. Obviously can't be super picky but get some furniture paint and you can really make something snap. :3

Mia, this is a FANTASTIC concept. You’ve got to continue down this route I absolutely love it. It supports small businesses, is better for the environment (when you don’t take the driving around into account, so maybe it balances out a tad bit. A lot have shipping options though, so the experience is different for everyone), and challenges your interior design skills. Overall I love this concept so so much and would love to see more.

I feel like using a primer before painting would help, especially when going from a darker color to a lighter color, but it would probably still need 3 coats anyway (1 coat of primer, 2 coats of paint) so it probably wouldn't matter in the end. I hope you enjoy my useless and unhelpful comment 😅

Tint your primer! You will only ever have to do 2 coats so it will be less likely to peel in years later! I just renovated my basement and I covered black and red striped paint with a baby blue ( same color she uses)! All I had to do was tint the primer with %75 of the paint color I wanted, 1 coat of primer and 1 coat of paint and I was done! most companies will do this for you in-store !
