I was just a child then, living in Miami during the late 80's to early 90's. To a child, Miami seemed like this neon colored giant that had no beginning or end except the ocean. The gaudy spires stretching out to the sky captivated me, as I knew that each night they promised a sight that rivaled the stars themselves. My earliest memories may have faded from those days, except the lights. I still remember those lights; I always will.

life now is literally just a continuation of the 80s, a next version of the 80s so to speak. No decade IMO has been so influential in shaping 30 years of American culture. Reality tv, computers, cell phones and tech, the internet, the music, the fashion, the movies, the shows, celebrity obsession, greed. Everything you see today is just an extension of the 80s in some way. The same is obviously not true of other 30 year spans. Like people in the 60s cannot directly trace the culture of society back to the 30s. Its pretty awesome and fascinating.

I love this synthpop! I am a old guy 47 back in 1984 everyone I loved was still with me. To you kiddos out there if you still have your grandparents/parents you should tell them how much you love them as much as humanly possibly. One day you won't be able and on that day you will realize how much you have truly lost.

They don’t get that man. They’re raised to be the absolutely, bottom dollar, MOST self centered, sociopathic generation ever to exist. If a disease took a parent, they would have to find somebody to blame. The will swim in despair because they don’t know how to receive and give the Love that only comes from God the Father. They don’t even try to use that gray matter. Seems like everyone born after ‘95ish- Is a loss as a human. And it’s our fault they’re ruining the entire world.

It's not the way you're trying to say. She was probably victim of a serial killer, but probably the monster had what he deserves, these psicopaths are unable to live normal lives, so probably soon after he met justice. They are arrested, killed, or commit suicide... a psyco is a psyco, they can't stop being such a disgrace. Here in Brazil in the 80's some serial killer cases also were common, according to the data, but not like in some North American states. But we have no death penalty, unfortunatelly.

As much as I share the overall nostalgic feelings that are expressed in the comments, you have to admit we aren't being any better than the Baby Boomers who look back to "Leave it to Beaver" with wistful smiles or the honest conviction that things were simpler in the fifties. Every generation has its nostalgia decade, I guess. I was born in 1983. By the time the eighties were over, I barely qualified as a self-conscious individual. I didn't get nostalgic for the eighties until around 2010. Kinda makes you curious about what's going to qualify as the next generation's "retro" sound. Really fast-paced nineties-like Techno à la Lords of Acid or Juno Reactor, maybe?

Voice In The Static I wouldn't say that. There's a lot more to the current decade than corporate homogenization, it's just hard to see those little nuggets of creativity without hindsight. We don't have enough of it yet, for obvious reasons. Every decade creates something to be nostalgic about, even if you can't see it. We aren't all sensitive to the same things and couldn't possibly be nostalgic for EVERY decade to ever leave a mark. Consider the sixties and the early Rock and Roll; the seventies and Progressive Rock. The eighties had New Wave, the nineties were drenched in Eurobeat success stories even in the States, and the same decade would also see the rise of the Boy Band. You might not see any quality in that, but some people *are* starting to be nostalgic for the Backstreet Boys. The early two-thousands were the era of flash-in-the-pan Pop Music divas, and now it feels like everyone has to fiddle with a sequencer at least once in their set list. Even the Black Eyed Peas went Dubstep. Don't forget that every generation has its hits that transcend the concept of nostalgia. If Barbra Streisand is still getting broadcast on FM airwaves and anything between Supertramp, Genesis to Led Zepplin still get plenty of exposure, the same can be said of current bigwigs like Céline Dion. The short of it is it's too early to tell. Not finding your own mark in the decade's production is fine, too - just don't say there's *less* on offer than there used to be, because I won't believe it. Heavy Metal, for instance, has spidered off into so many tangents that there's bound to be something for everyone.

Good call!! There's so much from the 80's that's actually throwbacks to the 50's (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to The Future, even the action movies that Stallone and Arnold did were just contemporary Westerns). Like you said, every generation has theirs. Guess in 30 years or so we'll see what that generation looks back on. I'll stay here in the 80's, myself.

It was at this moment our hero realised that, not only was summer already over, but he had not visited a beach in several years. He was also struck with the feeling that the comment he posted was grammatically incorrect and therefore edited it immediately.

This kind of stuff is actually going through a huge revival right now, look at the new Daft Punk album for example, topping even the mainstream charts. The groovy old hits that surfaced in the mid 70's through the 80's never died out, and I'm happy to see it all slowly resurfacing. Soul, funk, italo-disco, etc. all much too electrifying to go anywhere. Coming back in 2013 and it's refreshing as a glass of cold kool aid on an early summer morning.

I imagine living in Miami/California back then gave people the ability to thrive enormously in comparison to other parts of the world. Not only the weather was great, but also the economical situation. There was a very huge gap. China 1984 in comparison to USA 1984 is a different dimension, not only China... quite frankly also if you compare it to Europe.
