I learned so much about launching and retrieving a boat from this channel.

A trick I learned years ago when I pulled boats with 2wd trucks is if you're losing traction with only one of the rear wheels you can partially set the parking brake and that drag created sends more torque to the opposite wheel, usually getting the job done.

About the transom tie down straps…. I used to drive bucket truck and once left a hacksaw on the back and drove all the way back to the shop. So after that… when I was ready to drive away…. I would ALWAYS get up on the back of the buck truck and make sure I didn’t leave anything that could fall off. Even if I knew I didn’t leave anything… I would still double check. So my point is… double check the “Transom straps”

I forgot my straps on the first dunk after winter one time and lol'd at myself. Then the guy beside me did it and I noticed and politely told him. He looked so embarrassed until I told him it had just happened to me. Only 1 time over hundreds of launches spanning over 10 years. It happens.

Once again, these duallies with the 22.5 conversion on it fail horribly at getting these boats out of the water. Sure it looks cool, but those 18 wheeler tires get crappy traction.

i know my boat well enough to know when its about deep enough it should be floating off or something is wrong and to stop and pull it back , i dont just keep backing up until the tires are in the water
@robertfrederick90612 жыл бұрын
I used a float on boat trailer for over 22 years to single hand launch & retrieve. If people attach bright colored tape to their guide ons at the proper level where the trailers need to be sunk at it makes launching & retrieving a lot easier. I just cringe watching people struggle with their trailers when it can be so much easier.

Are none of these trucks in Florida 4x4's? LOL! Put it in 4WD back up the ramp to get the boat out. :/

That was defiantly a 4wd, unless someone lifted a 2wd 3500 dually which seem HIGHLY unlikely? Although the fords automatic front hubs are notorious for not working.....

I cant work out why thes people have such problems lining the bot on the trailer. They have the upright guide poles so just get a person to sit and hol it in position when you pull it out - so simple. Our fishing boats in Zimbabwe all have the guide poles close to the boat with protector foam thingies on so easiy to drive up between the guides, clip the front eyelet into the hook and drive the truck out - single handed all the way. I dont think I ever have had a squonk boat on the trailer.

Some boats seem to sit on the trailer balanced bow up, that is lifting the back of the car rather than depressing it. Coming out an angle is often another way of getting out.
