Mic pre-amps for guitar players

This video is for guitarists like myself who are new to the world of microphone pre-amps. I cover some very basic details about the form factor and general use of these devices.
In my next video, I'll be doing a sound comparison of the mic pre vs ox box vs just microphones.

I use a Putnam design, a UA Solo 610, but actually running it like a guitar pedal. I re-amp it for a [fabulous] clean tone, and as I recall the overdrive was pretty interesting. IDK how many people are going to stumble over one of these, but it was cheaper than a Klon. Recording people say that it colors the tone, but that doesn't bother my guitar. I did have a BAE DMP, but when I plugged into the UA, I didn't even unbox the BAE, but mailed it straight to my friend Art Najera, who is more worthy of such a thing. I think that the UA is running the Neve-style circuit. At the moment, it's running into a Dynacord CLS and a couple V125 Voxes for a stereo simulation of a Leslie sound, on top of the core three-amp Cerberus. This year the budget may include the Redd.47 design. There's a couple of modern ones out, and they are going to give up the tone that the Beatles were getting at EMI when they plugged straight in. I suppose that some of y'all are going to be using microphones and recording equipment for whatever you're doing, but mic pres are still just another gain stage to me.

I am a new to recording but recently got an Audient iD44 MKII interface that has Audient Console mic preamps built in. I generally think you get what you pay for although the law of diminishing returns applies to recording gear as much as anything else.
