I’ve looked outside myself for decades, wanting peace, wanting love, wanting validation. Michael’s teachings are helping me to stop the suffering caused by constant disappointment in the outside world. My goal now is to open my heart and to witness the mind without being pulled into its drama so I can love this life.

Lois Lane maybe you can see the so-called “disappointments” as a calling to move you in ward? The ability to enjoy life comes from the inside. Ha!!! My apologies I misread your comment. Learning to "witness the mind" still find myself attached to it with a death grip. Thank you Rosie

People that thumbs down this are either very religious or they don't understand that the work to be done is within, its not found in a teaching that tells you every little thing you should do in every situation, people seek that their whole lives and never believe it can be this simple. The pain initially wells up inside when we hear this message because it implies you haven't been on a journey for a path that hasn't yet been revealed to you, but your mind has taken over and you are a captive of your fears, bitterness, and pain that you haven't let go of.
@rosalbaaguilar6 жыл бұрын
jms correct. Not about daily details of life, it is about a state of being. I wonder why those folks gave it a thumb down?
@jms44066 жыл бұрын
@@rosalbaaguilar yeah me too. I think the overly religious probably think it's too new age and there are certain word triggers that used to shut me down immediately when I was a Christian. Things like "answers inside yourself," "mindfulness," even the word "meditation" used to shut me down. I literally would listen to nothing else they had to say. I had all the answers. I would think the devil was trying to butter me up and deceive me. Anyway I think some of the thumbs down have to do with that. The other I think is maybe people think it sounds too spiritual and not practical enough, but I think that disconnect is actually the way we perceive it and an indication that we are the ones with the issue. Essentially we want a teaching that will do the work for us. So when we feel good after a teaching like this and then the feeling goes away we feel duped rather than realizing that the work was always up to us. If we don't accept this then we jump to the next teaching to get the feeling back rather than cultivating our own awareness and journey. We continue to covertly hate ourselves and wish we were someone else by vicariously living through the teacher rather than learning to accept and appreciate our own unique beautiful journey
@rosalbaaguilar6 жыл бұрын
@@jms4406 lol, the second parts are good. We want a teaching that will do the work for us. True. Abraham Hicks says we are lazy, we don't want to have to do the "change work" necessary to create long-lasting, life-changing work for ourselves. We want to make the teacher the "God" "Christ" "crutch" so we don't have to do the "inner work". I know I'm guilty of it. But every time I get into contract/crap I don't like because I have been listening and have been making those small incremental changes and I listen "again" I hear it from a different perspective I have "aha" moments and the work begins again.

Michael quotes the first line of The Third Patriarch of Zen. (Here is the first verse): "The Great Way is not difficult for those who have no preferences. When love and hate are both absent everything becomes clear and undisguised. Make the smallest distinction, however, and heaven and earth are set infinitely apart." So reading the above, we can easily see what the problem is that we face here (in our everyday lives). Because can you imagine any human being - especially one living in a modern, developed, capitalist economy - not having any preferences in life? Or not having love nor hate for anything/anyone? Or not making the smallest distinction during the course of each day's activities? So the state that he's talking about is not at all easy to achieve - even for someone who's consciously making it the priority in their life - and for most people, it's probably never been more difficult than it is today. At the same time however, it has also never been more relevant and applicable than it is today either. So best of luck to anyone here who seriously takes up the challenge.
@joseangelosantos78185 жыл бұрын
It is very difficult. Honesty towards self is very important. “Do I really want this?” “Is this situation or thing really worth my peace?” To look at it that way, is seems easy, but whoooo, haha. GOOD TIMES.

It's incredibly enlightening. We have our list of goals and ideas for life: better career, more money, travels, wanting to maximise joy avoiding discomfort. But somehow we always screw up, ending up living a life we are not really happy with. In the grand scheme of things the goal setting will not bring you closer to happiness, but will only be a painful reminder of what life is not about. Problems cannot be solved with the same mind that created it, as brilliantly said by Einstein. What is needed is a change of the paradigm [a set of believes and habits]. The paradigm is the ego, deciding what we like and dislike based largely on our experiences. It's this paradigm that limits the joy of experiencing the now and every moment of your life, ruining it. Changing the paradigm requires letting go of the preferences. It's intellectually comprehensible that goals limit happiness, but it also requires a leap of faith to live it. Decide, do I want to be happy, or I don't want to be happy. If I do, let go and never close. It's tough to let go of goals we were led to believe are ours, but we did not make those goals - they were given to us. Happiness is the real goal - no question about it, and so unconditional love, laughter and joy. With the change of the paradigm from the set goals to letting go of the preferences and surrendering to whatever comes, happiness will follow with abundance and success in life. That was a great teaching from Michael Singer. Thank you.

The cynic in me says they are all the same...trying to make as much money as possible. I believe each spiritual leader has valid points that can be useful in our lives and this can be done for free. Too often people are in such pain that they desperately want to be apart of some community and unfortunately are easy targets for marketing.
