Usually I'm not a fan of a singer who takes SO many artistic liberties with their phrasing, changing of melodic lines, making some lines spoken that should be sung, etc -- but this performance is so heartfelt and well thought out that I couldn't help but love it. It's also a beautiful arrangement of the song. Bravo. Really beautiful. And Michael has a beautiful voice.

I watched this video for the first time a couple of years ago and I have yet to see a performance of this song that is as moving and so full of emotions as Michael's version. (Matt Doyle's and Aaron Tveit's are vocally strong but does not come close to touching this emotionally.) Not only Michael an amazing singer, he is a fine actor as well. When you watch this, you feel like he's singing just to you. And for four minutes, we are all Sams and we want to run away with him.

i've seen so many guys perform this song. michael arden is by far the only one i've seen who has been able to capture the essence of the character and communicate truthfully through the lyrics. maybe his voice isn't perfect, but singing requires so much more than just a beautiful voice.
