Nice, Brecker inserting some Joe Hendrson licks in trhat first solo.

Hello jazz friends! I'm the biggest fan of drummer Al Foster and listening to the wonderful musical theme FLG Maurepas upload, from the album MIXED ROOTS, I was curious about something. Help me. I am Brazilian and here in Brazil, in the 70s and 80s, this rhythm used in this instrumental theme was widely used in several recordings of singers of Brazilian popular music. I know this rhythm by the name of Latin Funk (It is also a variation of Brazilian funk, mixed with an Afro-Brazilian rhythm called IJEXÁ) ... My question is: Do you know of more recordings in the USA or around the world that use this drum beat ? Did Al Foster invent her? What would be the oldest recording using it? Help me.

Brecker playing soprano sax on "Pauletta", reminding me a bit of Steve Marcus on Larry Coryell's Classic 1972 Fusion track, " Foreplay".

Ooh, I need to check that out!!!! That's one of the best Mike solos on soprano I ever heard... he really gets into it. Just beautiful.

@@thebreathalyzer Yeah, check it out, me coming originally from Rock, 'Foreplay' is one of the tracks that got me hooked into harmony (it's an all sus4 chords, circular song form), so eventually I went from Fusion also to acoustic straight ahead too. Peace.

He never played an alto right?
@thebreathalyzer3 жыл бұрын
@Alvar Maybe there's one recording of him on alto. He loved Cannonball, but once he got into Coltrane it was all tenor with a little flute and soprano here and there.
