According to celebrated author and sociologist Michael Eric Dyson, 1963 was a defining year for the civil rights movement in the United States-universities in the South were integrated, four young girls were killed in a church bombing, and a quarter of a million Americans marched on Washington to hear Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. That same year, Attorney General Robert Kennedy sought out cultural leaders like James Baldwin, playwright Lorraine Hansberry, psychologist Kenneth Clark and activist Jerome Smith to explain the rage that threatened to engulf America. According to Dyson, every fundamental argument about race in America was heard in that room.
Fifty-five years after this historic year, the tense intersection of conflict between conscience and politics-between morality and power-in addressing race continues on with Black Lives Matter. In his new book What Truth Sounds Like, Michael Eric Dyson confronts a difficult situation directly: whether we embrace political resolution or moral redemption to fix our fractured racial landscape in this country. Dyson believes the future of race-and of democracy itself-hangs in the balance.
Michael Eric Dyson is an op-ed columnist for The New York Times and professor of sociology at Georgetown University. He has authored numerous books on black culture and both the history and future of race relations in the United States.

So you’re gonna disprove my point by proving my point? You went out of your way to speak down on Dr. Dyson even though you don’t normally do things like this. To speak on a mind so narrow it graduated from an Ivy League college on time. With honors. With several masters degrees a doctorate and 20 books written to date? With a current tenure at Columbia university? You can say you dont agree with him. That’s an educated response But you saying he isn’t educated is dumb as fuck on your part. Because this had and can be proven multiple times over. Narrow minded indeed. Find smarter ways to be a dumbass.

Being educated doesn’t make you right. In fact, it really just makes most people more unlikely to bother finding out if they’re wrong. To be educated and remain honest, open, and committed to empiricism is quite a feat. It is not a feat Dyson has accomplished.

@@poloboyl89 Have you watched the Tyson Vs Peterson debate. You will see how Michael clearly acts in a racist way. I also agree that even if you have a high education does not mean you are always right. If someone goes to a ivy college doesn’t mean we should blindly agree and follow them.

I like him. He's very personable and funny. Plus a very interesting discussion on race. Not to mentioning covering many points and making seamless transitions. Kinda wish there was more. Look forward to perusing more videos. Though you should really have NPR and KQED link the youtube page. if that's possible. Probably get more traffic and get this content out more to those who need to hear it. Thanks for sharing!

Dyson is not that smart. He merely uses syntax, and mantras. He tries too hard to be articulate. He's only another demagogue. Dogma is his bread and butter. He's just another Ken Ham. Without supposed "racism", Dyson wouldn't even be good at anything. If he only capitilized on the true tenants of racism, and when it actually takes place then he would need a night job; it just doesn't happen that often. He wouldn't have an income. He wouldn't even exist in our minds. That alone, means he is a walking conflict of interests.
