I seem to remember MJ talking about how he developed a lot of anxiety around interviews during this time and that interviewers asked really inappropriate questions. He asked his family to help him get through them. We should normalize mental health needs and be less judgmental. Let’s face it, some of the interviewers during that time were pretty racist and rude and stars weren’t really allowed to make a fuss.

In an article written by this interviewer, he confessed he really wasn't sure how to interact with the duo while conducting it. He was instructed beforehand to direct all questions to Janet and she would put it to Michael. The interviewer awkwardly sat in front of Janet and whenever he tried eye contact, Michael's eyes would just stay glued to the floor the whole time.

Michael said in another interview that the interviewers would ask the questions and then put their own spin on their answers. I would be nervous about that. But imho, this was a very smart power move to filter the questions through young Janet to control the narrative so the questions would be wholesome and not inappropriate because they could take it and spin it how they'd like. It's not matter of Michael ignoring inappropriate questions. It's a matter of making it a non-starter. No one's gonna put a weird or suggestive question to a little girl. Good on them!
