Off The Wall was released a few weeks before Michael Jackson's 21st birthday, it was his coming of age album too, and with it he made a statement of intent with tracks like this, this album also established Michael as a grown up solo star and it set him up for his rightful place as the NUMBER ONE entertainer in the world throughout the 80s

I will also add that on the heals of the Off the Wall project was the critically acclaimed Jackson Brothers project ( Triumph) which was produced by Quincy Jones's /Stevie Wonder's protege Greg Phillinganes . Like Off the Wall, this project really highlighted Michaels songwriting and production skills . With killer tracks ( Can you feel it, Lovely One, HeartBreak Hotel, Everybody.. basically all of tracks are winners ...This project kinda gets lost because of Off The Wall. But, it's a great project that could be thought of as Off the Wall (part 2)..

IMO, this is MJ's best album. I know Thriller is the greatest selling album of all time, BUT, this is the Michael Jackson album that has aged the best of them all. This was disco, funk, R& B and Soul all fused together. Louis Johnson's bass just shreds this track sonically.
