Michael Jackson's Hidden Influence

Just recently discovered how much MJ was influenced by John Travolta, specifically grease and Saturday Night Fever. Amazing how he took these things and just flat out used them!
- EDIT
This video is not claiming that MJ stole anything, or didnt steal anything. It's not claiming he is original or unoriginal. It's simply showcasing (as the title plainly states) an obvious influence of his that is not widely known, or talked about. MJ rarely (if ever) cited John Travolta as a dance influence, but the parallels are undeniable. The video is for entertainment purposes - for fans. Not to bash MJ. Enjoy!

He never claimed to have invented any of these. In fact he repeatedly stressed that he's very influenced by previous artists. 'Study the greats and become greater'. Enough said.

yourfellowhuman yes, but that was not the point of me making this. The title is "hidden influence." it was merely to show that he was definitely influenced by someone most fans never talk about or realized. He often cites Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, James Brown, etc, but hes never said John Travolta. When watching Grease, I realized he was obviously HEAVILY influenced by John and this film!

Randy Speer Grease was awesome, how could MJ not be influenced by such great music and dance and style :) And Saturday Night Fever, Travolta is ultra cool. But do you really want to see something scary lol I did it, I really explained the meaning of Billie Jean. Diana Ross is Billie Jean, Michael Jackson is the kid. The Song Billie Jean is about Diana telling Michael she is his real Mother at age 10. Can you handle the truth. My video is out there.

Can you explain what the difference between influenced and copied really is? Seems to me you're just up Jacksons ass trying to excuse his blatant fraudulent stealing. 'Copy a whole array of the greatest dancers and use them for myself step for step down to every last detail and hopefully if I say its merely being inspired I might get a pass from my fanatical braindead fanbase who view me as a perfect being who could do no wrong' that seems fair.

People act like they find it so hard to believe that Michael was born even before many of these artists many of these styles he been invented dancing since he was a kid he been doing stuff like this he influenced a whole culture a whole heat influence the music industry the movie industry the dancing industry people half of those dance moves they were doing because of Michael the dress is the gloves all the stuff because of Michael the jackets because of Michael and even if anybody else okay was wearing and dressing like that it wasn't cool to Michael made it cool at first it was just well this is how boys dress but no when Michael did it it was cool the Lord has slicked back every guy was doing that every guy guys don't do it now because of the cultural thing but back then every guy was you know brushing their hair like that or putting gel in their hair it was called Grease today greaser boys and that's what degrees is about it's about the greasers back then it wasn't about some movie that people invented no people did stuff like that back in the day if you want to call it Elvis diesel whatever you want to do boys did shit like that and Michael was definitely old enough to be a part of that time. To remember stuff like that to do stuff like that even that you can't even say influence by that's just what it was that he did and when Michael do things it's just better than everybody else who did it they have for the back the back videos do not match don't even look the same it's clearly different the stuff that looks similar looks better on Michael and the stuff that you want to say okay it's the same it's basically the time period doesn't matter

These moves have been circulating for centuries. Michael Jackson’s influence on movement and dance is yet to be matched as whatever inspiration he’s taken in the past wether it be Jackie Wilson, James brown, Bill Bailey, Fred Astaire or gene Kelly or in this case “Grease” he’s taken these elements and created something COMPLETELY unique. There’s jazz, HipHop, contemporary, ballet and then there’s “Michael Jackson style” what we see in this video is only a small fraction of his arsenal of moves and signature poses. He is quite simply the greatest artist of all time.

His talent and mostly his work ethic made him above all these people but he only started to take in Street moves in his bad era, well before that only the moonwalk but's just one move. The reason Michael was such a great dancer because he understood the great dancers are great, whatever genre or color they are and he learned from all of them.

Michael Jackson learned his dance moves from James Brown who he knew personally the Nicholas Brothers the greatest tap dancers ever who he knew personally Sammy Davis Junior an amazing actor singer and tapdancer who he knew personally. Michael was influenced by them he took those moves and did those moves in the nightclubs and in Las Vegas on the radio show when he was a kid with his brothers and sisters we could also do them and the studio 54 where he met John Travolta ,john took those moves and put them in the movie with the help of choreographer. MJ didn't copy or got inspired from Travolta, the Grease and Saturday night fever dance is disco dance style which was the "in" thing during that time.. It is just that those 2 movies have become famous era defining movies and hence we think it is taken from there...... Michael didn't take from Travolta or those 2 movies michael took from the 'disco' era moves.... Just see the kind of dance that used to be done on shows like 'soul train' of those times and you'll see that Travolta moves came from there..... In fact MJ got heavily inspired from a dancer from soul train show i think, Jeffrey Daniels or something his name is.. Michael supposedly called him to train him personally... If I remember correctly he even choreographed or helped MJ choreograph one of his music videos too.... MJ's the way you make me feel look was inspired by the look of magician David copperfield in one of his Vegas shows.... I think you can find a video of David's on KZbin...

How Michael managed to become more popular even after copying? Ans. Good song, good voice, good background music, designer clothes, being more energetic than anyone else, good use of lights and colors, choosing the right locations.

The Michael Jackson videos are 11 years and the John Travolta videos are 8 years. Michael Jackson hasn't copied, Mike is amazing. Mike always said, "I perfect my dance steps" and "I saw some kids dance and I loved their dance steps, I told them to teach me and they did, I just perfected what I learned. Michael is amazing! 😎👏

Michael Jackson fans have got the hashtag "MJInnocent" trending by either misinterpreting or misrepresenting a California court ruling on Monday. Judge Mark A. Young dismissed a lawsuit against Jackson’s companies and ruled that they were not legally obligated to protect boys from sexual abuse. The ruling does not address the late pop star's guilt or innocence. Wade Robson, who shared his allegations of abuse by Jackson in the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland, claimed MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures facilitated the singer’s abuse of he and other boys. Young decided the companies were both wholly owned by Jackson when he was alive and therefore had no control over him. A lawyer for Robson said, in a statement, they will appeal the ruling because it sets “a dangerous precedent that would leave thousands of children working in the entertainment industry vulnerable to sexual abuse by persons in places of power.” Jonathan Steinsapir, a lawyer representing Jackson’s companies, called Robson’s lawsuit “frivolous.” In a statement, he said: “A judge has once again ruled that Robson’s claims have no merit whatsoever.” Last October, Young dismissed a similar lawsuit filed by James Safechuck, another alleged victim of Jackson’s sexual abuse who appeared in Leaving Neverland. The estate of Jackson, who died in 2009, has publicly denied all allegations of sexual abuse. Jackson was acquitted of molesting Gavin Arvizo after a 2005 trial, where prosecutors gave evidence that at least two other alleged victims had reached confidential settlements with the singer in the ‘90s. On Monday, his nephew Taj Jackson tweeted: “We’ve been ridiculed, vilified and marginalized. Yet we still stood strong and never wavered. We withstood all peer and public pressure, because we knew the truth. Armed with passion and the facts, we never backed down. All for MJ. I’m so proud of us.”

Don't think that Travolta had choreographed those pieces and routines personally, he was a dancer. But anyways, the influence from Grease and Saturday Night Fever is there, but MJ said many times he got influenced by several artists like James Brown, Fred Astaire, Jackie Wilson, among many others. He then combined all of that, gave it his own style who none could've taught him and created something unique. In fact, when you see a performance by MJ you experience something completely different, you don't get the sense that it came from somewhere else, you just think that all you see is 100% MJ's own style.

How is it 100% his own style when the moves are blatantly the exact same?! It's as clear as day stop with the silly redundant excuses and lies to cover or make excuses for MJ.
@Vylkeer
@Vylkeer 4 жыл бұрын
CG WTF is your problem? These are not “excuses”. MJ was the best live performer and some of the best dancers ever. But most importantly he was probably the most unique one ever. Try to find any other performer who could come close, I’ll wait. I’m tired of people like you who just cannot accept that MJ was a huge talent. He composed music, wrote lyrics, produced, arranged, choreographed and danced. All of this like none else could. Get over it.
