If you were around during this time to watch Michael (especially those of us in Chicago) you knew you were watching greatness every game. 6 NBA titles in a decade is pretty damn special. Would have been more if he hadn't "retired" and got into baseball for a stretch. The guy is a human highlight reel, and he delivered when they needed it the most.

Like Jordan, Bryant does everything well. He can carry a team offensively for long stretches, defend the other team's best player, hit outside shots, create for others, slash to the rim, excel in transition and win playoff games. He is the prototypical shooting guard, with a killer instinct and nearly unlimited range on his shot. And he's getting better.

Agreed. I always hear people nowadays talk about how Kobe or Lebron are on par with Michael Jordan. I can't see it. Jordan's ball control skills are the best to this day. And of course, he gathered countless points, in ways that were nothing short of magical. Jordan is a true legend of the game.

Excellent video, I'd give it a thumbs up and 4 of 5. Would have liked to see the move on Bird back in '86 (I think), the strip from Malone and crossover possibly push-off NBA championship winning sequence from '96 and the tongue sticking switch-hand layup vs. Lakers in '91. Throw in any number of defensive plays and some college, Dream Team and Slam Dunk Comp highlights. Also, it's "than" and not "then".

@gossiboy101: It's because Wilt is yesterday's story. If you were 30 years old when Wilt was in his prime (61-62) you'd be 81 years old right now. Now Wilt's games in his prime weren't televised (for the most part), so you're talking about having to have seen him play live. Average per game attendance in 1961 was 4,566. Only 11.7% of people who were 30 when Wilt played are probably still alive. Meanwhile most people grew up watching Bird, Magic, and Jordan. So they're fresh in our minds

On top of that, Michael Jordan had set the most records ever in NBA history. it also took 20 different superstars, each breaking only a single category. On top of that, MJ still holds many records in the NBA. If you call scoring 10-20 points against a strong defense as punishing them, then yes...Kobe would punish them also. Jordan punished strong defenses by scoring 40+ points against them on a fairly regular basis. Not only did he score that much, but he had a lot of assists those games.

Gasol's 51st in career field goal percentage, 52.0 percent mark that tops Bryant's by a significant margin. Gasol was especially good in the 2008-09 year, shooting 56.9 percent from the field and topping the league in Offensive Rating while ranking fifth in field goal percentage. Gasol teaming with Bynum, who has been at 55.8 percent from the field or better in every season since his rookie campaign, made one of the most formidable front lines in the league. No help my ass.

@RyanGrant9400: Athleticism is a valid argument, but what I don't think you realize is that it's actually a small difference. B/C fundamentally the hardest thing about basketball is actually getting the ball through the hoop, and shooting percentages hover around 46% for the league and that's true no matter the year. B/C that's the hardest thing about basketball it means that a great player is great regardless of the era. Even though the league is more athletic the stat line changes little.

@gossiboy101: 2. cont.: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was 1 inch taller than Wilt, and Wilt they played head to head 28 times. Wilt outscored Kareem 6 times, and while Kareem tended to score more that was primarily because Wilt was playing to help his team get the ball to West and Robertson. More telling is that even though Kareem was taller, Wilt still won the rebounding battle in half those games. So Kareem was taller, and younger, but Wilt still hung in there and played about on par with him

@gossiboy101: 2. The average height has changed only 2.37 inches between Wilt's time and now. We know from draft data an player heights that starting in the 90s and continuing through until now players are now measured with shoes on, whereas prior to the 90s they were measured with shoes off. We know from this data that the average height of a player in shoes is about 1.25 inches taller than their height out of shoes. So really players are about 1.12 inches taller than in Wilt's day.

@jazz12103: 1. Magic retired in 91. He wasn't in the league when Jordan won his 2nd title. He came back for 95-96, and he re-retired after the 96 playoffs. So he wasn't in the league for Michael's 5th and 6th title. Jordan won most of his titles after the Magic era was over, which effectively ended in '91, b/c when Magic came back for '95-'96 he was on the bench and only played 32 games. So IMO it's not really a genuine argument that Jordan won 4 championships during the Magic era
@Biswalt12 жыл бұрын
@Dano7396: You took my argument out of context. The guy I was arguing brought up the comparison of best years, not me, so he framed that argument. Also, Wilt was only the tallest guy in the league for one season. every other year he played there were guys taller than him. He didn't just score because he was tall. Swede Halbrook was 2 inches taller played in Wilt's era and only averaged 6 pts, and 6 Rebs a game. If Wilt scored due to height why didn't Halbrook?
@Biswalt12 жыл бұрын
@BallSackMacAttack: You have a flaw in your logic. Both steals and rebounds result in taking the ball away from the other team without an opportunity to score. Once the shot goes up, it's up there is no changing that. So once it comes down off the rim a rebound and a steal have the same value because both deprive a team of a possession chance.
