thats the one thing coming off screens/ off ball...mj was the best at that...to me if your a coach and you have lebron wade kobe or mj I would tell them to move cause you cant be double teamed if you moving off ball and its harder to guard you and its harder for the best defenders to find and matchup with you every single play when your moving compared too standing still.......and if these stars are as fast and fit as they claim to be they should be able a few extra points out of it....to me stars like them ...if im a coach im making sure they should touch the ball every play down the court besides in transition.....to me if my stars touch the play every time down the court not only will we get an extra 2 baskets a night out of just mistakes by the defense and our star noticing and attacking but if you put pressure with the star touching the ball every play the other coach will get upset even if the star passes right away just him touching the ball changes the way the defense looks... but also your offense will run smoother..........if wade lebron and kobe moved off ball the way mj could....they would be unguardable ...all 4 of their ball in hands skills are amazing especially at attacking...if you notice in their primes the best way to beat lebron kobe and wade is to make them play off ball cause they would stand around and take a break every few plays...in the corners... and let others beat you...when you took it out of their hands most of the play their teams struggled.....if lebron kobe or wade only have 6-8 seconds on the shot clock to work with its much easier to guard them then if they have 16-18 seconds....mj would move early so he would still have 12 seconds left by the time he got the ball back and he would kill you because even if he isnt gonna shoot he liked to be part of most plays and touch the ball just in case the defense made a mistake and he could get an easy 2 real quick off of a mistake......through effort....mj played with max effort....i think thats why people dont like lebron...well besides kobetards/laker fags.... he doesnt seem to give 100% all game long.... d wade to me gives the closest amount of effort that mj gave....9 out of 10 times wades going 100%...he too will get lazy but so did mj every few minutes....

Kobe played his entire career the way Jordan played in the 80s, he was just fortunate enough to have guys like Shaq and Gasol instead of Woolridge and Green. 90s Jordan was considerably better than Kobe at any point.

That is so ridiculous to say. Teenaged Kobe hit MJ with moves only MJ was capable of doing up until that point. Prime, 81 point Kobe was a much more refined Jordan. Adding range and ball handling which made even more aggressive no matter where he was on the floor. These videos are ridiculous and totally miss the fact zone isnt played on MJ. That totally changed peoples rhythm as far as what moves to use in isolation. Not to mention MJ is up against smaller, not quick enough players. I've seen Kobe and MJ play in their primes and in their older years. It's quite obvious that MJ was a more intelligent ball player, which is why he was so efficient and why there were games where it was almost as if he wasn't being guarded. The way he got open was a thing of beauty. He didn't have to run around like Reggie Miller to get open. His usage of screens was incredible. It also helped that he was just stronger and more crafty in the post.

Eli W Those stats are fair but its important to note the different careers of MJ and KB. Kobes averages would be on a similar level if not for his rookie years 17/18/19/20. MJ came in after college. He also retired and came back to a incredible bulls team. He also had scottie pippen. If you talk to MJ about kobe he states that he is just as good but they played in different eras. IMO Jordan was a better player, but kobe is very close. You have to give it to MJ because of 6 rings and his incredible defensive ability.

Jac Bauer Comparing when Kobe won his first ring to when MJ did it is silly. Comparing Kobe's career counting stats averages to Jordan's is also silly, because Kobe played way less minutes as a teenager his first few years in the league. Not saying who is better here, but this video has a slight bias. Such small sample sizes are very inaccurate. MJ took his fair share of difficult shots as well, unlike you show. He didn't always get straight down to it and take excellent shots. Just like Kobe doesn't take all bad shots or clog up the offense like you show. He has his fair share of catching and shooting as well as passing it to the post and moving. I think targeting specifically bad moments for Kobe and specifically good moments for MJ was pretty unfair, because we easily could switch the script here and show the other end of the spectrum for both guys.

Spencer Berg If you do something multiple times, then unless you perform exactly the same each go around, one of them has to be the "worst" even if it's not particularly bad. I think 1996 was easily Jordan's worst (or "least good," if you prefer) performance, and I'd even go so far as to say he shouldn't have won MVP. I thought Rodman was more deserving, because his offensive rebounding in a couple of those games changed the balance of the series, and in fact he twice tied the record for most O-boards in a Finals game. The Bulls shot pretty poorly that series, they needed an edge on the offensive glass and turnovers to make up the difference in their lousy shooting. As for MJ, he shot pretty poorly in a few of the games, finishing the series at .416 FG%, and averaged a career-worst 27.3 PPG in the Finals. Had the Bulls finished the sweep in game 4, I think Jordan would've rightfully won the Finals MVP, but since it went six, Jordan's performance in the back end of the series diluted his early excellence and Rodman's game 6 was once again dominant. The only real knock against Rodman's play was that Shawn Kemp looked like a beast out there. If Karl Malone played in the Finals like Shawn Kemp did, then the Jazz would've won two NBA titles.

In this video, Jordan looked more graceful and effortless when getting his shots and almost never appeared to be doing too much or exerting maximum effort to score for the Bulls whereas Kobe did for the Lakers. Kobe’s movements and offensive tendencies look forced and not really in tune with the Lakers’ offense. Phil Jackson highlighted this major difference between the two. Jordan almost never forced his offense especially when his shot was off whereas Kobe would keep shooting until his shot started falling which at times would be detrimental to the Lakers. Jordan made it a point to consistently stay within the flow of the Bulls’ offense whereas Kobe would seize an opportunity to break the flow of the Lakers’ offense to go 1-on-1 if and when the opportunity presented itself. To Kobe’s credit, he was almost a 100% mirror image of Jordan on the court due to his unbelievable talent and skill and inhuman work ethic, but there are a few things that prevented him from matching Jordan 100% and his tendency to force his offense by taking very difficult and highly inefficient shots was one of those things. I’m not hating on Kobe though. He was absolutely one of the greatest players in NBA history and rightfully deserves a place in the Hall of Fame posthumously. It still pains me to say these things as Kobe is no longer with us. Just as it was a privilege to have seen Jordan play, it was also a privilege to have seen Kobe play too. R.I.P. Black Mamba. Phil Jackson himself settled this debate in his book 'Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success". To paraphrase Phil, MJ was a better defender, better leader/teammate, more efficient player, and "let the game come to him instead of forcing the issue". Phil has always been diplomatic about it in TV interview but he didn't hold back in that book. Idk why this is still a debate when the guy who coached both players settled it. Phil has also said in an interview that Michael knew how to play in a system cuz he learned it at UNC under Dean Smith.

It should be mentioned that before the Bulls ran the Triangle, Jordan would take the ball himself a lot more. The differences between Jordan and Kobe then were 1. he still passed off more off the drive and 2. his hands were so big that he could finish better at the rim. You don't see a young Jordan settling for as many off-balance outside jumpers, and when he did, he was still more fluid with them than Kobe, if not quite as polished.

I said it long ago and I'll say it again. The major difference between MJ and Kobe is shot selection. Jordan's smarts are shown through his shot selection and that made him more lethal and efficient than Kobe, who's shot selection (countless times) is highly questionable. They both took difficult shots and made them, but in MJ's case it was a last resort situation, whereas Kobe constantly makes his shots more difficult than they should be and, as a result, misses badly on many occasions.

Honestly, MJ's fadeaway at 39 was more athletic than Kobe's at 34. MJ just had better athleticism, body control, and Kobe had to make up for it. I love Kobe, but MJ's seemingly crazy shots were always in control. He was also significantly better at finishing around the rim. His first step was far surpassed anyone we've seen, and MJ was significantly quicker in general (Lebron's actually not far behind MJ in footspeed - there was a video accurately comparing the two in their starts and top acceleration on the court). That said, Kobe is a phenomenal talent... there's no denying that. Anyone who can emulate Jordan has to be incredible. But we know who was the greatest, and Kobe's stated it several times.

Graison Barthelus wrong, kobe was a ball hog, people turned to Jordan when the Team needed him most, his role was to be the key component of the team and come up big in clutch situations but work within the team system. Kobe basically like most modern superstars just runs the team for his own ego satisfaction and makes no effort to improve his team mates. It hurts your team chemistry when you don't get your team mates involved regularly, he wants all the glory for himself where as Jordan was actually very selfless and simply wanted to win as a team and use his skills to drive that. Its not jsut about the shots made or missed tho. It is about the flow of the game. Kobe gets the ball & isolations a lot. When he passes it, he is stagnant. When Kobe gets the ball, he takes more difficult shots & uses mroe energy to get a shot off. MJ will pass the ball and move to make the defense move. That helps move the defense around making them scramble about which tires the defense more, can get more foul calls & makes defenses wonder where the ball is going at all times. MJ also uses less energy to make a shot. Kobe can make difficult shots, but MJ was just a smarter & more of a team player & was also mroe efficient. Mj also had high stats vs playoff teams & didnt have his ego take away from his game. When MJ needed to make a smart play, he did. When Kobe needs to make a smart play, he usually took an ill advised shot that wasnt in the flow of the TEAM's offense. Lakers have 2 offenses they run, Kobe with the ball or other Lakers passing the ball/setting screens/backcuts and Kobe standing around.

Here's the thing. Kobe's whole not passing thing... it's old news. The news is so old that at this point, it would be on the coach to have made kobe pass once in a while and dictate a little off ball movement. Everybody knows Kobe has sticky fingers. Somehow, the coach still lets him do what he does though. As a coach, you are out to win games. If the coach has not taken Kobe out for fucking up the team rhythm, that's on the coach. Here's the real question. Why does the coaching on the Lakers allow him to do this? The coach's only goal is to win at all costs. Why would they allow Kobe to do this and not get him to change his game? As I see it, there's 2 answers here. 1. Kobe's team isn't worth passing to. or... 2. Kobe is fucking everything up, BUT Kobe's celebrity worth is worth the price of admission. If Kobe don't want to listen, the coaching staff will just have to ignore it because Kobe can do as he pleases. I think the truth is right between these two answers. If Kobe had a team worth passing to, perhaps his coaches would demand more ball movement. If he had a team worth passing to, he might also be more willing to cooperate in that way. It worked with Shaq. Keep this in mind. Kobe has done fine with All-Star teams.

He doesn't have another dominant scorer with him like he used to with Gasol and Shaq, therefore they need to move the ball. Less talented teams need more ball movement. Ex: Mavs vs Heat in 2011. The Mavs didn't have the most talented roster or the most talented player, but they moved the ball around a lot instead of depending solely on Dirk, which created opportunities to score. If the Mavs only depended on Dirk then they would have lost really quickly, because all the Heat have to do is Double him or play tight D, and then no one else would score. Hell ask D Rose. He didn't have another dominant scorer to lean on, so trying to do it all himself wasn't going to work. The only way to win was with ball movement.

If Kobe makes a shot you instantly say "he got the shot, but it wasn't a good decision as he's going to get tired" well yeah, you do get tired when you play basketball. He never took more than 4 or 5 dribbles before he either got a good look or he passed within the triangle system. When he didn't have the ball be was moving and not just standing around. That's putting your ego aside for the betterment of the team. Kobe, on the other hand, will come up the court and dribble 10x before shooting a tough shot. Or if he passes he just stands there creating no motion in the triangle and making it harder for his teammates to score.

Great video, but without even having to go into the advance analysis, just look at their achievements. MJ was the best scorer ever, highest career average, 10 scoring titles, if it weren't for his 2 retirements he would easily have been the all time leading scorer, and perhaps ended up with 2 additional rings. While Kobe was a great defender, MJ was even better, and is one of the 2 guards ever to win DPOY. MJ was also more efficient, with a career fg% of 50, while Kobe was less efficient of a player overall. 5 mvps, 6 finals mvps, was unquestionably the best player that took the floor at any given time. Respect to Kobe and his great career, but while is he very similar to MJ in style, MJ was simply better in practically all categories (except 3 pt shooting, which he didn't even need to score so many points). MJ is G.O.A.T and any who says any differently is a bit out of their minds.

Simply put, MJ took smarter shots than Kobe. I think Jordan was more athletic than Kobe, but rarely would he have a play for himself where he'd dribble the ball more than 4 times before shooting (apart from a last second shot, of course). Jordan was great in moving w/o the ball for a catch-and-shoot that Kobe could've utilized more bc he's not as great a post-up player as MJ was. Instead, Kobe would do a lot of 1-on-1 moves from the perimeter complete with crossovers, hesitation moves, a fake spin move, etc. before a jump shot which would more often than not, result in a missed field goal. Jordan kept it simple and played within the flow of the triangle offense more.

Great video, but taking into the context the demands put upon them and their development as players through their respective career trajectories might give this more perspective. MJ: started his career on teams where he had few reliable scorers as teammates, the offense was often dependent on his shooting a high volume. MJ later learned to trust his teammates within the triangle system in order to overcome defensive systems designed to stop him. Kobe: started his career on teams which were balanced and did not require high shooting volume from him. He was able to play within the offense and at times take over games when needed. Later in Kobe's career, he did not have the same caliber of reliable playmakers around and the offense was more dependent on his scoring. He did not have to learn to be a facilitator early on in his development as a player, though his ability to set up the offense is highly underrated in his skillset.

lets put it this way. people keep saying kobe and pau vs MJ and pippen. lets not look at MJ and kobe stat. lets look at pau gasol and pippen. from 2008 to 2010 (the year lakers appeared in nba final), pau average 18 point and 10 rebound per game per 37 minutes. pippen had around 19 point, 7 rebound and 2 steal in chicago six year final along with MJ, as well as around 37 minutes. this is not important, but look at the season that they play without kobe and MJ, pippen average drop dramatically (not include 1994, 1995) while pau number is nearly the same as his highest peak performance without kobe. that means pippen perform better when MJ is on the court. and Pau perform worse when kobe is on the court, MAY BE. clearly MJ is a better teammate to play with. when everyone was saying that kobe is a really hard teammate to play with, they have their points. Kobe is really great, almost the best, but he still not the god of basketball as MJ because he lacks of basketball IQ. MJ have basketball IQ and so he is the god. also, Kobe has a lot of moves that copy from MJ, from this point, you can see MJ is Kobe mentor. if MJ play the same amount of season as KOBE, MJ will DEFINITELY rank first in all-time nba scoring. So there is no doubt that MJ is better than Kobe.

Also, in the case of the 1994 Bulls team in particular, MJ never got to play with that roster. That roster added Kukoc and Kerr to Grant and Armstrong. Afterwards, Grant and Armstrong left. Basically, aside from losing MJ, that Bulls team actually got better from '93 to '94. It's an important detail that the folks who want to discredit MJ by saying "Pippen won 55 games without Jordan" tend to leave out.
