The ignorance of Americans supporting trump is astounding. We must do better in our educational system. Most of these people don't even understanding the basics in government/civics. Somewhere along the way these subjects are not being taught any longer; nor is, the knowledge of using critical thinking. We have failed. Home schooling might be a place to start. Many kids might have very qualified parent teachers but many do not. In the last 2 neighborhoods I've lived in, I've seen parents sign their kids up for home schooling then never work with them, never set a school schedule and just let things run amok. It's very sad and these kids get further & further behind including socially & emotionally. When they are finally enrolled in public school they are so far behind in everything, they become a teacher's nightmare.

We need to face the fact that, in public education teachers must strictly follow and adhere to the curricula laid out for them. Individual teachers have no say in determining criteria for curricula. For the future, other than homeschooling, how can civics, critical thinking, and ethics become obligatory in public schools? Nowadays, teachers teach what to think. We need public sch9ol teachers who can teach HOW to think.
